Would love to know what people think our 'identity' is. I saw hundreds of comments of 'typical charlton bottlejobs' and so on.
Our identity is symbolised in simon church, a lot of running but not much else.
Other managers comment before games 'we know charlton will be hard to break down but if we can take our chances we'll be fine'
If this is our identity i would be happy to lose it if it means us playing more attractive football and scoring more goals, RD said we will be bringing players through the academy.
People are crying about players being brought in from overseas like PP, but if theres value for money why not spend it on players that are not from the english leagues. Why spend 4.5 mil on dwight gale when you can get 2 or 3 max gradel standard players.
Everyone needs to chill out, after sunday everyone said 'we are down 100%' so why not roll the dice with some fresh ideas, it might just pay off.
"Identity" is a construct of us fans, "Identity" is having managers who played at teh club, earned caps in our shirt, and who love the club. "Identity" is not being a feeder club for some second-rate Belgian team we don't care about. "Identity" is having a board who care about our history and heritage just as much as our future. "Identity" is on the decline, with players who can't make the 1st team of some other club shipped in en-mass to plug the gap RD's not willing to fill with cash, with a manager with no experience who's main qualification is RD's bestest chummy, and a chairman who's duplicity is obvious from his formal interviews.
I am absolutely disgusted by this decision. This is the beginning of the end for this football club. First Kermorgant, now Powell. Its an outrageous decision. I believe people should indeed take direct action. Either demonstrate, boycott, failure to renew season tickets, whatever suits the individual. If I saw Douchbag personally, I think I would actually attack the man. I am beyond words for the whole situation. Where on earth do you think the likes of Poyet and Cousins, and any other quality youngsters are going to end up? Liege would be my guess. A big part of our club has died today, and yes the club is bigger than any one individual but it will never be the same again.
Chris Powell has been sacked, is that the end of the world? no end of charlton ? of course not !
Ive seen threads of "contacting the club" .. "lets all protest" blah blah
I have just seen someone say " we should all stand up Wednesday and turn out back to the players " - wow... wow... WOW
seriously wtf is wrong with half of you lot ? i support CHARLTON ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB , not Chris Powell , i love the guy dont get me wrong , do i feel its a little harsh? granted but to protest ? don't be ridiculous!.
The negativity on here is a joke, no wonder the guys on ITTV forum mock us ? its embarrassing how we act to things we don't like , Chris is gone now onto Jose, he may not be our choice but end of the day its not our choice to make, we are bottom of the championship ( yes don't get me wrong 4 games in hand but that is not 12 points guaranteed ) we are in this position because we have not been good enough all season, with Yann , Dale and Ben
We need to get behind the boys & Jose we may not like it but the last thing we should do is protest
Ill be there Wednesday cheering on the 11 that's out there,Ii wont be doing any stupid protests.
Please many of you grow up, or go support Chelsea you can give me abuse as much as you like for my outburst , I really don't care
( im not a powell out guy , i wanted him to stay but he didnt .. oh well)
Charlton by blood you seemed to pull me up on my negativity toward Jackson (that will always be the case I'm afraid). Yet I am in the same boat as you here. I think Powell is a good manager who has done a great job for us, but talk of protests, ceasing to support the club is over the top. The club has gone through harder times than this. We have financial stability under RD, something we wouldn't have had if he hadn't have stepped in. I genuinely believe Powell has been dealt an unfair hand in managing the side over the last 12 months. However (in creeps the negativity again), the team and results this season have been poor. After the Sheff Utd game was the first time I was frustrated with CP and the approach/tactics etc. We have 16 games left. A decent run of games to give us a chance of staying up. I believe the team and the club need us all to give Riga and the new players a chance and get behind what is now 'Charlton'. We won't help the situation by turning our back on the club/not renewing season tickets etc. Do not let the heart rule the head in this instance. In addition to that I would say the club is in your heart more than one man, no matter how much of a true legend that one man was (and still is)

I assume you are talking about the same Cousins who the consensus after Sunday was that "Powell is ruining his confidence and destroying him as a player by playing him on the wing"?
Yes that is correct. I didn't agree with our formation or team on Sunday, Powell got it wrong. I believe Powell stuck by HIS players for the FA cup and it has cost him his job. We have had one of the smallest budgets in the league, and he has performed miracles. Selling Kermorgant was a huge mistake, he was a player other players looked upto. If Powell is that bad, why on earth is he being linked with QPR? The writing is on the wall for our club.
The negativity on here is a joke, no wonder the guys on ITTV forum mock us ?
I would suggest we have more people that are closer to the club on here than on ITTV, therefore feelings may well be stronger. I hadn't even heard of ITTV until recently. As I understand it, there are a good lot of the moaners from the old OS Your Views site. If memory serves those were far worse than most on here.
I don't think he is 'that bad' at all - managers move around all the time before the situation eventually fits and they prove a success for the long term and I am sure this will happen for CP. But the simple fact is that the situation clearly was not working here, for the club or for him so had to be brought to an end.
It would have been much, much less grief for RD to wait for us to lose at Millwall then far more people would have been baying for CP's blood, but he has taken a decision that he feels gives us a chance to stay up.
In fact, if you believe, as I certainly do, that we would have lost the next two games, then:
1, The club has had a result because it has at least a chance of winning two crucial games.
2, CP has had a result because his reputation will remain intact (quite rightly) as someone who did well in difficult circumstance, rather than being sacked by a team bound for relegation with the fans calling for him to go.
3, In fact the only loser is RD because he did not let CP take all the flack of relegation and then brought his own man in to get promoted next year. He has taken the flack on himself, as a good boss should do.
I believe people should indeed take direct action. Either demonstrate, boycott, failure to renew season tickets, whatever suits the individual. If I saw Douchbag personally, I think I would actually attack the man.
Firstly, what people? The majority of Charlton fans I know actually think sacking Powell was the correct thing to do and have been wanting it to happen for some time.
Secondly, why demonstrate, boycott or fail to renew your season ticket? What will that achieve?
It won't get Powell his job back but it could harm the future of Charlton and these "people" won't get to see their favourite football team!
All this over-reaction and hysteria because you haven't got your own way has gone from amusing to embarrassing and now quite nauseating.
We as a whole have to get behind the team, the players need our support. We can stay up but the new manager and the players must have the backing of the fans.
Would you rather see us relegated so you can give it the "told ya"?
If that's your way of supporting Charlton you go for it but it aint mine!

UP THE ADDIX!
Totally agree m8, most people I know are glad his gone but they don't use internet forums
Yes a part of me wants us to be relegated now. I don't want a team full of foreign loanees, and cast off s, whilst our best youngsters are cherry picked for Liege. I'm afraid that most of the CAFC supporters I know ARE not going to renew their season tickets.I know of at least 7 or 8 that have no intention of doing so. Charlton are renowned for fighting injustice, it has happened many times over the years. If we all had your attitude then we would of all stayed quiet and would still be playing at Selhurst Park with the Valley still rotting. So direct action does work. Douchbag is the wrong chairman for this club. This is just the beginning, things will get worse, we have always had such a strong identity, which is just being eroded.

You two want it both ways - you are part of the bitter little campaign to get rid of Powell & have whinged & moaned on here all season in the face of overwhelming support for the man - you have been anything but supportive to the team, revelling in defeats & nowhere to be seen when we win.
Now he has gone you are questioning the support for the team of those who are pissed off about it.
And that's nonsense Oakster, some people might have revelled in Charlton defeats but not me, I have never revelled in a Charlton defeat, I hate it. I don't care who runs the club, who plays for the club or who owns the club.....I just want to see Charlton win.
Nonsense, how can you compare moving to Selhurst Park with sacking an underachieving manager?
League 1 winner with record points, 9th place championship finish with similar team, FA Cup quarter final with worse team. Bottom of the table yeah, 4 games in hand and relegated yet? No.
Underachieving? What do you realistically expect to have been achieved with the restraints and squad we have?
And when you say I'm nowhere to be seen when we win that's probably because I'm out on the piss enjoying it. More likely that I don't post often on here because there isn't much interesting debate going on but today is a big day in the club's history and I'm here to be part of it!
Some of these MORONS, Charltonbyblood being one, dont understand that it is because we support charlton that it was so important that Powell stayed to represent CHARLTON not some Belgian Henchman who couldnt give a toss about charlton but will do whatever the idiot owner tells him to do.
The point is that as a club we DO NOT have to accept Douchbag and whatever plans he has up his sleeve for us. This is not going to end well. There are similarities to moving to Selhurst. We were shafted by the board at that time, and we are being shafted again. We didnt accept it then, and we don't have to accept it now. What do you think is Douchbag's highest priority? If you think it will be CAFC then you my friend are deluded. It is Standard Liege and always will be.
Underachieving yes, we are bottom of the league FFS and we have witnessed some of the worst performances in many years.
If Powell was doing well and we were pushing up the league with a Charlton legend in charge then yes it would be fantastic. That is the best scenario and I'd enjoy that as much and probably more than any Charlton fan but that is not happening.
Let's move on to a new beginning and judge the new set up at the end of the season not before he has even taken a training session.
What do you think is Douchbag's highest priority? If you think it will be CAFC then you my friend are deluded. It is Standard Liege and always will be.
How do you know this for sure? One TV interview? How do you know he wasn't saying that to appease the Standard Liege fans?
If he's a businessman who wants to make money he can make more money by getting us into The Premiership than he ever could with Standard Liege playing in The Champions League every year.
Only time will tell who will be right but I'm prepared to give him a chance on not judge him on one interview.
D F T - Powell has worked miracles. Do you remember the mess we was in when he came in? Winning the league with record points in his first full season? 9th last season with a small budget? FA Cup quarter final with one of the smallest budgets in the league? Two of our best players sold in January? The lies the club peddle that that refused to sign new contracts is just bullshit. Kermorgant was offered a new contract but on reduced terms! He desperately wanted to stay. Powell has been shafted. I didnt always agree with Powell, or his selections. But he was the man the majority of supporters wanted in charge.
I would hazard a guess that most people who wanted Powell gone will be younger supporters. Older supporters who can remember the club from the 70's, 80's and 90's will feel most upset at this news, history is important. Our club has changed, and not for the better
How do I know that his main priority will be Standard Liege? ha ha. Your not the brightest are you D F T. 1. He is Belgium, as are Standard Liege. 2- Liege play champions league football £££££££ 3 - He has already stated that any good youngsters will be sold to Liege! We won't even get good value for money for them, but that is irrelevant because whoever is sold will be replaced by someone else from his emporium. Priorities my friend, Champions league or Championship/league 1. We dont need Hercule Poirot for that mystery do we. WAKE UP before its too late.
You're entitled to your opinion others are entitled to ours.
I've calmed down a bit now but do not like the cowardly treatment meted out to an honourable, hardworking professional man who has given much to Charlton Athletic.
I am therefore boycotting the Huddersfield game as a personal mark of respect to Chris Powell. An empty stadium, in my opinion, would speak volumes but I am one person and it is evident that many are delighted with the turn of events so I act for myself and no other.
No, I'm not the brightest ralphmilne, that's why I'll be down the shit hole ready for anything they can throw at us on Saturday. I'll be supporting my team!
As an aside, the "we're bottom of the league" stuff is ridiculous when the reason we're bottom of the league is because of the missed games caused by pitch problems and our cup run. It suggests it's Powell's fault that we didn't have a league game at the weekend.

He hasn't worked miracles ralphmilne this is just getting silly, I can't believe what I'm reading here.
I think we've done this one to death and I've got to go to work. I'm out!
