The reaction to the sacking has been ridiculous, Like Dianas death or Mandelas etc.
Some of your comments and talks of protests and boycotts are absolutely cringeworthy.
Powell has gone, it was a decision made by the board......end of, now let's move on to a new (hopefully successful) era under the new manager.
Who do you support Charlton Athletic or Chris Powell?
As you say, a manager is always going to leave at some point. I'm upset that Powell has gone, but the decision is made and I cannot change it. My anger is related to the direction the club is taking, which this sacking is a part of. I really to struggle to see what is Charlton about all of this, and it is just going to get worse.
It's not the fault of the new manager, he has been brought in to keep us in this division. Surely it's in everyones interest to get behind the team and give them 100% backing.
I wasn't happy with Powells team selections and tactics etc but I always supported the team and cheered them on.
It's Charlton for me, not any individual no matter how well loved.
I totally agree with the decision to sack Chris Powell---poor negative football and questionable tactics BUT I'm very concerned at the way it's been done and the rumours that the owner wanted to influence Chris on team selection. If the new manger really is a "puppet" then we are in for a very rough ride. I do, however, quite like Jose Riga's background in passing football so let's hope he can be successful and we start to see some decent football down at the Valley for a change.
great opening post. The King is dead, long live the King. We move on. Get behind the team and the new boss and hope we can stay up. Protests, boycott's etc? Not for me.
Charltonblood and others; you are missing the point. The problem is not the sacking of Powell but the plans for the club.
Our football great club is seen by some business man as a feeder club for a club as small as standard liege. Our good youngsters will go to them or be sold for his profit. Liege's dross will fill the gaps with us. Managers will be told who to play for the greater good.
Chris Powell stood up against that so we should all aswell.
The Belgian is the worst thing to happen to Charlton in my near fifty years of following them.
Hull may lose their name and Caardiff their shirt colour, but Charlton are losing their soul.
Well I suggest you lot try and find 14 million between you to buy the club. His money his decisions all I know is we would of been in administration without him .
what do you want that is different to what I want ?
I agree with 4 out of your 5 but sadly the days are long gone where the owners of clubs understand what supporting a club is all about. It is all about money now.

This. I was a big Powell supporter but the point he has been sacked is not the issue as such for me. Its the way we are going that is the worry.

I support Charlton Athletic.
Equally, I couldn't give a flying one about Standard Liege, so the current situation represents a problem as, badge aside, what is actually being offered here?
Cos it was on Sky, come on we all know he can make more money by simply getting us back in The Premiership than he ever could with Standard Liege in The Champions League.
It would make better business sense to feed Charlton the best players!
we HAVE to get it in our head that RD isn't trying to destroy us at all, why would he ? if we win wedneday and saturday , im sure il lsee a thread that says "RD is a genius" its amazing how half of you change your minds like the weather ,

We know it because RD and a Liege coach said that was the plan. Good players go to them and those not making it at Liege come to Charlton and the others. BBC source
Chris Powell has been sacked, is that the end of the world? no end of charlton ? of course not !
Ive seen threads of "contacting the club" .. "lets all protest" blah blah
I have just seen someone say " we should all stand up Wednesday and turn out back to the players " - wow... wow... WOW
seriously wtf is wrong with half of you lot ? i support CHARLTON ATHLETIC FOOTBALL CLUB , not Chris Powell , i love the guy dont get me wrong , do i feel its a little harsh? granted but to protest ? don't be ridiculous!.
The negativity on here is a joke, no wonder the guys on ITTV forum mock us ? its embarrassing how we act to things we don't like , Chris is gone now onto Jose, he may not be our choice but end of the day its not our choice to make, we are bottom of the championship ( yes don't get me wrong 4 games in hand but that is not 12 points guaranteed ) we are in this position because we have not been good enough all season, with Yann , Dale and Ben
We need to get behind the boys & Jose we may not like it but the last thing we should do is protest
Ill be there Wednesday cheering on the 11 that's out there,Ii wont be doing any stupid protests.
Please many of you grow up, or go support Chelsea you can give me abuse as much as you like for my outburst , I really don't care
( im not a powell out guy , i wanted him to stay but he didnt .. oh well)
I find blind faith embarassing
And there is blind faith on both sides Shine. He's gone.
If I hear any more rubbish about us being a 'feeder club' for Standard Liege i will go barking mad. Some people need a reality check - RD has paid £20m for a club which loses a huge amount of money every year (which he, therefore, has to pay).
The amount of difference that we could make by developing Liege's fringe players is marginal and would no way cover these losses.
If you wanted to buy a feeder club - you would not buy Charlton!
The only way for RD to avoid losing a vast amount of money is to make Charlton a success, which he is trying to do, time will have to tell if he achieves it.

Time will tell. When Sunley took Charlton from the Valley there were those fans who said the important thing was to get behind the team and get results. Others fought for the Valley and the clubs identity. Same divide is around the corner I think.

We are the biggest definition of a feeder club in the UK at the moment, we are Standard Liege reserves. We have their former (SACKED) manager, we have their dud players. We are being USED. He hasn't bought us to lose money and cheer us on up the leagues, wake up.
Time will tell that cannot be denied. However clocks tick in the present just as much as in the future. Right here, right now it feels like I am indeed supporting Standard Lieges feeder club, or if not that, some kind of experiment about the business of football of which we are a mere cog that may or may not fit. When we kick off tomorrow what is going to excite us? For me it is a win or nothing, so I intend to start telling the time from the moment the ref blows the final whistle tomorrow.
Great OP. If we were top of the league, in the FA cup final, playing some good football a la Leicester, then by all means create a fuss, but we are relegation bound under Powell. FACT!
Comments
Problem is what's Charlton Athletic going to look like after a couple more years of RD's experiment?
I want the club to be owned and run by people who understand what supporting an individual football club is about.
I don't want a team filled with players they want off another club's wage bill, or to get match practice for the benefit of another team.
I don't want a manager who is told what players to play

so on that basis , if Roland wants to call the shots, ill support him.

Where does it end?

stick to what has been confirmed, not something you just made up in the space of 30 seconds

yes that would be horrendous , but honestly i cant see that happen, we shouldnt think the worse cause he has sacked out manager
