Diego Poyet

  • My view is that Poyet will still be with Charlton next season.

He's a good young player with a "name" so it makes a good story for the media.

I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't close to playing enough games to trigger a payrise and/or contract extension anyway.

So what, Barcelona could offer him CL football, but if he stays with us we can also offer him CL football....with Standard Liege ;)

After 10 games apparently rises to 6k a week, explain why he wasn't played under the previous regime??? Would we then have to offer his extension from 6k per week might be why no contract has been offered??????

  • Will probably end up at Bournemouth...

Where's that come from? Doubt we have many senior players on £6k a week.
  • Although a lot of interest from the likes of Barca, he seems to be on good terms with SCP so might be interesting to see if Diego moves where Chris ends up. Of course it depends on what league Chris moves to - as others have said earlier in this thread it's doubtful Diego will move to a League One club (or will stay at CAFC if we are relegated).
Regardless of where he goes, I think he is going to do well. It's a huge feather in the cap for our Academy and the Valley Gold scheme.

Could be £6k a month at his age not too bad.

he gets a cracking good pay rise after x games no surprise he didn't play till they had gone

  • The point is that he is out of contract, he needs an incentive to stay. An incentive that is more appealing than any alternative offers.
  • If you were Poyet's agent (let alone his dad) with all the positive reviews he is receiving, would you encourage him to sign a contract with CAFC (assuming one is offered!!!) or with a club which would have prospects of going upwards and winning silver as well as a higher wage. Mmmmmm. Difficult one that.

  • Hopefully Gus will help Diego out a bit, he'll know if he stays he will be playing most weeks.
  • Is all this attention on Poyet helping us to keep hold of Cousins beyond this season?

Hoping he stays. Looked our best player last few weeks.
  • Would be amazed if he stays after recent events. Got my fingers crossed but think he will be part of the exodus.
  • He's worth money, he has tweeted with intentions to leave (saying he won't go to anyone within RDs network).. would eat a shit sandwich if he is here for much longer.. he is the exact definition of RD's work, he's the sort of player he thinks can easily be replaced for a lot cheaper than he is sold for

The day Powell was sacked. Didn't say he was leaving in his tweet, but would be amazed if he is playing for us next season. Similarly with Hamer and Morrison.

Perhaps intentions to leave is a bit strong, but no intentions to stay is obvious.

If picked up on by our new army regime owner, he'll be the first out the door with an offer.

I read the tweet he said about thank Powell.

The club has spent a lot of money training this kid and developing him. Sure he's had to have the motivation but he's been given the facilities, the time and the coaches of a top academy. If he moves on for free the season after making his debut and turning 18, he can go f*** himself for all I'm concerned.

Agreed....will tar him with the same brush as Defoe. At least Parker was sold for 10 mil and Jonjo signed a contract so we could get some dough for him......

Understand how you feel, but really we should have shoved another contract under his nose long before now.

We've tried. He's insisted waiting until the end of the season. It looks like it's all been with the plan of easily moving on to a bigger team. Class act.
  • Tottenham, West Ham, Fulham, Barcelona and Inter Milan are all keen on signing Charlton midfielder Diego Poyet, the 18-year-old son of Sunderland boss Gus Poyet.

He might get a game for Fulham or West Ham, I think at the rest he'd be in the development squad or equivalent and is that the best place for him?
  • I think if we stay up there is a good chance he will sign a new contract and stay. If we are relegated he isn't going to want to continue his football education in League 1, getting booted from pillar to post so wouldn't blame him if he left.

If we have offered him a contract then we would get a development fee but it would be a pittance compared to his current market value if he was tied down to a long term contract.

Keeping fingers crossed he does stay as I think him and Cousins could be the spine of a very good midfield next year in the Championship (if we stay up!).
  • Am I right in thinking we'd only get a development fee if he moves to another english club, but nothing he he were to move abroad?
  • If you were someone like Spurs & wanted him, the smart move would be to offer a buy and loan-back for 2014-15 (if we're in the Champ).

    Yeah think thats right.

The only way we may keep him is as he knows he will play with us.
  • Think it most likely he'll leave in the summer no matter what. But may be a slight chance he stays if we stay up. No chance if we go down.

    Really hope he stays.
