  • Today was the first time my missus had seen Poyet play, she thought Lawrie had grown his locks a bit more.
  • I think either him or Wilson should have a haircut! For identification purposes that is!

It's a good job Astrit doesn't still look like this.

  • Some of the crunching tackles Diego Poyet put in today reminded me of a young Scotttie Parker, with hair extensions.

    This.

I hope they don't show too much of him on the FLS. I bet they do :-(
  • Reports in the press today say that West Ham are interested in him as well as Southampton. Not surprising really, as his contract is up at the end of the season the odds on him leaving would be pretty short I'd think.
  • West Ham would be a terrible move for him, Southampton would be good for him though.
  • Dagenham would be a step up for him at the moment...............
  • Would be a shame to lose him so early but both he & Cousins are defensive central midfielders - I feel it's going to get to the stage where we won't be able to play both of them in the same team.

Would be gutted if we lost him so early on a free.
  • As long as we offered him a contract at least equal to his present one, we'd get a development fee at the very least, although it would be nowhere near a transfer fee.

Still, £20 can buy you another Simon Church................
  • Be sold on for sure or let his contract run out and walk?

  • I thought Richard Murray told us this wouldn't happen anymore under Roland's ownership? That'll be right...
  • When Spurs got Bostock from Palace the tribunal decided Spurs had to pay 700,000 rising to 1.25m. Palace were also due 15% of the profit that Spurs made from selling him. As Poyet has played for us more than Bostock played for Palace we'd probably be looking at something similar to this deal, maybe slightly better.
  • CE Jnr I think the rules have changed since then so I believe it will be a lot less
  • I thought Richard Murray told us this wouldn't happen anymore under Roland's ownership? That'll be right...

So its Rolands fault that Poyet didnt want to sign a deal yet ?

A set of bibs and a bag of training balls it is then.........................
  • I think it's a given that he will go unfortunately. He's made his breakthrough and doesn't look out of place in the championship. He won't see league one as a good career move and I doubt his dad will either.

The blame will lay firmly on the shoulders of the last jokers in not sticking a contract in front of him before he broke into the team. Hopefully under RD this will not happen in the future.

Poyet and Cousins holding midfield. Ajdarevic behind a striker. Two wingers. 4-5-1 pop bang lovely

Thats exactly how I thought we would play yesterday, with Tudgay on the right.

How has Diego not signing a contract got anything to do with RD? The blame for the contract shambles lies firmly at TJ & MS feet.

  • I expect he's waiting to see who the Manager will be and in what league?

I agree with that, however maybe there was a window for RD to sort some contracts out, too late now can't see any players whose contracts are up at the end of the season signing now. No idea what League we will be in, who the manager will be and what the plans are for this club. Poyet will go if we go down and probably will even if we stay up.

We have a legion of non-scoring strikers and Johnnie Jackson who is the one player we have with an idea of where the goal is.

Is it too delusional to play Jacko as that striker with the midfield suggested?!

He'd defend from the front, would have the stamina to do the running involved as a midfielder and wouldn't be afraid to take a pop on goal. We'd have his setpiece expertise too.

    Thoughts?

That would never work, imho. Jacko scores his goals by finding clever pockets of space in the box and anticipating where the lose ball might break to. To do this, you have to arrive slightly behind the play so you can pick up areas unmarked by defenders who are focusing on the players and ball that are already in and around the box, his late runs also allow him to get a running jump on more stationary defenders which is how he scores his headed goals. If you put up front, he'd be marked all the time and we'd find he has neither the strength, aerial presence, pace or trickery on the ball to make much of an impact.

IMO, the personnel are not the biggest problem right now. What we need to focus on is chance creation by building attacks through the midfield and keeping the ball in our possession in their half for longer. This allows the defence and midfield to push up and close the gap between the attack and it's support. As it stands, we pump too much long stuff that either comes straight back or is occasionally controlled but usually in a position where the striker is isolated or outnumbered. We don't have the best strikers in the world but even if we did, playing the way we did on Sunday, they would score at lot less often than they might in other teams.
  • And we need to double up on the opposition down the wings like Sheff Utd did to us yesterday. Every time their winger got the ball their full back was sprinting to catch up.

Which two wingers would that be then, Green and Harriott?
  • Jesus Christ, yet another young potential star who is going to leave.
  • RD must be dancing on the ceiling..

Good luck to Poyet when he leaves and I wish him all the best at the club that chooses him and he chooses. I'd be out of this club like a shot, and I expect he will be too
