Yes, everything is the manager's fault. He could have replaced him with a right back. Or a centre back. Though people would then complain about him playing players out of position.
While Evina was awful, he wasn't culpable for the two goals. Morrison and Wood were. And Wilson din't cover himself in glory for the second either. Terrible goals to concede.
I couldn't get there yesterday. However, everyone agrees Evina was awful, then how did he do 90 minutes? Poor management?
Felt sorry for Harry Lennon who had a good game at Wigan. CP obviously fancied a natural fullback and maybe felt three youngsters was too many in the side two weeks running. To be fair, Burke the winger who Ceddy was marking, was a handful and Lennon was on his heels a bit against a similarly tricky customer Scannell at Huddersfield in the cup, so maybe CP didn't want to expose him and opted for experience.
I was at Wigan and for those of you who were too I thought Lennon did fantastic . He stood up to Callum mcmanaman who I believe is probly the best winger in the championship . Would of liked to of seen him there again. But in Powell I trust , hopefully he will turn it around . Need a winger desperately .
I do agree with Airman's conclusions. Whilst I think Chrissy is a bit too safety first for my liking sometimes, it has been pretty clear that we have needed a couple of a certain type of player for some time and Chrissy has not been given the support he needed/needs to get them. If he gets the backing he needs and fails, fair enough, but he is having to work in the most challenging of circumstances. It doesn't seem to help when refs always seem to choose the Valley to show how 'neutral' they are!
It isn't too late, ut the supporters need to keep supporting the manager and the team, and the owner needs to see that he is going to have to spend some money now to save some money later. I don't think we can afford to wait - loans in need to happen now. The new owner is clearly no fool, so surely we should expect something to happen!
Well said, Mutts.
Hope I'm right when I add that RD will know where this team's weaknesses are and won't let us down.
Katrien will be fully aware after watching yesterday's match and will have passed on her concerns regarding lack of goals etc. RD will also know the short & long term situation re Chris Solly so expect to see some business done very soon to address said problems.
RD knows it makes sense ....
Hopefully Kate knows enough about footballthat she can advise on footballing matters.
You say RD knows it makes sense, is that knowledge or just plain old hope. If knowledge is it from the fans forum meeting and there is more than youand the fans forum have already let on .. a few nods and winks that won't get minuted?

You read my post on here last Sunday, Kap. And now the minutes of said mtg are up on the OS link.
Think I gave a good account of the positive feeling I gained although the official minutes did not reflect that....which is why I put my head above the parapet on here.
Nothing more of any substance was stated on the night I can assure you. I am not party to any upcoming plans/deals that might help us avoid relegation this season. All I know is that Katrien is in very regular contact with RD & am sure will have reported back the shortcomings & plus points from the B'Ham game.
Do you think that an astute businessman would sit back & watch his investment falter when he has the option now of strengthening the "product "? Surely that's what would make sense & hence why I commented as such earlier.
You are kidding me. The team is weaker than it was before. Lets see the quality added to the team to enable Charlton to survive in the championship. When that happens I believe that RD is not bothered by relegation. The relegation is avoidable. Everyone is attributing whatever motives they want to RD and his strategy. None of us know his true motives and we can only go on the actions taken and the results so far. 4 defeats in 4 league games since RD has taken over. A bunch of strangers on the pitch, lots of unaddressed weakness on the pitch, and leaving the manager to hang himself by a lack of quality compounding his tactical weakness.
Not convinced so far. I'll trust RD when he shows he is trustworthy. He ain't shown that yet.
I am a bit tired of owners taking my loyalty to Charlton for granted. At present, RD seems to trying for project 5,000, project 5,000 season ticket holders that it is.
we aint going to miss yann as we can play to feet, instead of aimlessly hitting the ball in the air for the opposing midfielders and defenders to clean up the knock ons,
Get what you're saying but Yann is so much more than a big lump of a target man.
Fair enough, vff. That's your opinion & in some ways I can't disagree.
But as you clearly point out, we don't know RD's motives at this stage & can only guess at what his strategy is.
No way did I want to see Yann leave our Club & even though it was odds on that Dale would move, it did leave us wanting in midfield.
But, having seen Reza & Astrit a couple of times now, I am seeing some positives - and still looking to PP to play a bigger part soon ( someone said he didn't look too fit when warming up yesterday with maybe this being the reason he wasn't brought on earlier)
Just feel that although time is of the essence in the situation we're in currently, a further week together on the Trg Ground will improve the understanding etc and we'll see the benefits, maybe in the Cup game which would be a good place to start ...
And, as I posted earlier, my gut feeling is that there will be a player(s) coming in on loan very soon ...but as I always say, and as you appear to agree, what do I know ?
At the end of the process, who knows will be starting the next season, there is no guarantee that Astrid will be there or whether Solly will be either. I have tried to go on actual events rather than clinging onto hope that RD has a strategy that will produce coherent results on the pitch. Not knocking those that want to hold that view.
When Charlton got relegated under Pardew / Parkinson, it was pretty clear that the club was going down and Parkinson took the time to get a strategy together for League One, which worked for a bit, before the plan got found out and the lack of quality in the team exposed.
At this time, I would like to see the player who will be in the team next year actually played. Maybe that will give a head start for next season, albeit in League One. I would include a manager change in that as well unless CP gave start improving on the tactical errors in set up and substitutions. CP has been great for Charlton but I am not convinced that he is able to do it, though would be very happy if he did. RD, I think has a new coach coming in and it would be better if he just got on with his plan.
Loic right back (in preparation for a Solly sale, if he is saleable that is), Wilson at right half with Anil K on the subs bench (if he is going to say) and coming on as impact. Astrid as forward centre midfield, Harriots at left midfield and Polish PP alongside Reza at front.
What has happened to Evina ? He is a left back and he should be learning from Chris Powell to be a better one, but seems to have gone backwards.
The above may change if RD surprises us all and decides to add some quality in the emergency loan window. Such an avoidable relegation that is the most gutting thing about it. Not seeing that RD cares much about that at this moment.
how could PP not be fit when warming up? If he wasn't fit, why would he be on the bench? if he was on the bench and not used then that would make cp look a bit daft if we were losing and not used. he obviously did mot fancy him to make a difference, and the manager would know better than what we get shown in a short club released pr vid.
I am puzzled by people stating that Powell has to take responsibility for this, that and the other, because one thing he's never done is blame anyone else - even though he's been employed in a circus for the last 18 months.
The fact that Danny Green is even on the bench is a pretty good indicator of the problems he has, because the bloke's a liability as was once shown once again when he surrendered possession for the second goal. And what was that free-kick about?
There were some encouraging things on the pitch this afternoon, including Poyet and Ajdarevic but there's no evidence either way to suggest things would have been different if Parzyszek had started. It's just an assumption by people who haven't had the benefit of watching him in training over the last week. I hope he turns out to be useful, but I also remember the people on here insisting that Pigott should play at the start of the season. By the same token we will be very lucky to get 20 games out of Poyet between now and May and it's probably not in his interest that we do.
Like most people I don't always agree with Chris's team selection or substitutions, but I do recognise that he has an exceptional ability to motivate the players and get them to put in the effort, because they want to play for him, although that may be undermined if the established players feel they are being replaced by others not chosen by him.
Quite simply the squad is still not good enough, because it has been depleted as well as increased. We need to bring in two or three exceptional loan signings who speak English and are used to the pace and physicality of English football and I don't believe changing the manager at this stage as well as so many of the players would be a sensible move, even if there was an obviously better one available.
As it stands we are going down - no question - but the owner has the financial capacity to avoid this fate with short term expenditure and to save himself money in the medium term by doing so. Presumably that is what he will try to do. But in response to the claim that the most people now think Chris has to go, not in my name, thanks.
Everyone in the stadium wanted to see PP and then he brought on church!!! With 18 mins to go why not make all three changes and bring on PP aswell, it would have given a lift to the crowd and maybe spurred us on to get an equaliser but no he leaves him and brings him on when we're 2-0 down with 3 mins to go, that is just appalling management.
Also what about the training exercise that we saw in the video in the week? What is the point on working on scoring from crosses when we're playing with 4 CM's in midfield!
The only person to blame for this is powell, and he still hasnt learned all season, i cannot see us staying up playing like this, and the fact that andy hughes is shouting more encouragement from the sidelines and gets told off for doing so speaks volumes

he scored 16 goals in 20 games in holland this season! its a no brainer!!

I think this is very different to the two relegations to the third tier which I have witnessed over the years - Pardew/ Parkinson and Nelson/Bailey. This because we were winning games not so long ago and this is still 100% avoidable - as you and others state.
There is a pattern emerging of how the squad is developing and we will see in the next month what happens next. I share Fanny's optimism that additional players will arrive. And you would hope that the relevant people are analysing both the team and the squad to fix the weaknesses asap. It has to be down to how quickly this new look team gels and, as posted elsewhere, let's hope that Wiggins is back very soon to solve the left back slot ... or even left wing back given the strength we appear to have in central midfield. If Harriott can contribute that is going to help because he was beating defenders for fun just nine months ago. I also agree with you that Wilson is a good enough right half. Can he play wing back too or do we need to get someone else in on the right. Upfront we just don't know if Reza and Piotr will deliver goals - at least it is a cup match next week and we get a chance to relax ... another week for the squad to train and gel and look to turn this around.
Good points about game: reza astrid, Wilson, cousins(for me man of match) ; realisation and confirmation that Jackson should come on as a sub; Bad points ; sordell is another bwp and I don't see what powell sees as for me he has never had a good game and yesterday he was making a lot of fans angry by his lack of desire let alone skill. Church gives all his energy but it is not happening. We are still not good at defending set pieces. Overall and ironically I thought we played well and am looking forward to next Saturday.
We lost by making mistakes. First the manager, who played the very poor Evina despite having Fox and Lennon in the squad. And then playing Cousins up on the right where the only thing he did ofnote was to miss a sitter. Astrit was the best player I have seen in a Charlton shirt for years, I would love to know what he was saying to Wood after Macheda was allowed to move alone into a chance to accept a gift goal. We are before long going to see a good young team, but in which division and with which manager we have to wait and see.
Thought I would leave it a day or two before posting as we're all a bit emotional straight after a game. Anyway haven't made it too as many games as I'd like this season but after Saturday made a few observations:
- Sordell must NEVER start for us again. I understand CP was in a tricky position with him having scored at Wigan but having studied him at close quarters on Saturday the man is not a team player. I lost count of the number of times he could have passed to a team mate only to take a fairly poor effort at goal- he is greedy.
- Evina dire, not sure why he doesn't start Lennon given his impressive performances of late.
- How we missed Stephens and Kermorgant on Saturday- just somebody who could do something out of the ordinary- a good pass to unlock a defence. Remember last season how Fuller & Haynes could get us a goal out of nowhere (Derby, Peterborough etc.) We don't have that any more. CONTRACTS THAT WERE LEFT TO RUN DOWN- your legacy Slater & Jimenez...
- Despite Paddy's best efforts we really are playing on a paddyfield- forgive the pun. I don't know how we are going to survive this relegation battle playing on that every other week. We're back to lack of investment again both in the playing staff and the pitch. AGAIN- YOUR LEGACY SLATER & JIMENEZ.
The other worry for me is this break now for the FA Cup. There are crucial games midweek and next Saturday and our next game is QPR! We could be a long way adrift by then...
I genuinely feel for Powell. There is a growing group of people that want him out and RD (looking at it from the outside) seems like he's not a fan of the manager. In my view the facts are thus: He got us promoted in style and has barely had a penny to spend since and has this season seen his Player of the Year for the last two seasons ruled out through injury along with Cort who has been a big player for us. Add to that Wiggins' injury/suspension absences as well as being forced to sell his best midfielder and striker.
Sadly I can only see this ending in one way- relegation and CP going which makes me feel really sad. And to think the previous regime genuinely think they left us in a
Can someone illuminate as to whether or not Reza and Two-Metre Peter are actually available this week for the FAC?
Don't see why they wouldn't be, they aren't cup tied and the game isn't one that's been postponed.
That's a result.
We can basically give them a pressure free run out and let them play it as they see it - far more important that they are fully prepped for the League than the Cup.
Sub comes on with 15 mins to go, takes a corner and doesn’t clear the first defender, ball comes back to him and the resulting cross doesn't clear the first defender.
This guy gets paid to play football FFS.
What goes on in training?
Think he is trying to score from the corner, still is was a bit better than his free kick that hit the wall.
Yeah, and he took a massive run up for that free kick, as well. I stupidly thought, 'He's gonna wallop this in. Look at the run up.' Followed by, 'For f*ck's sake!'
I do agree with Airman's conclusions. Maybe in RD we should learn to trust....
The road of business is littered with businesses where the owners have thought they have protected their investment only to belatedly found they have failed and for bigger investments than £12 / £16 / £20 million (Delete as appropriate.
I did not trust Slater and Jimminez when there were those praising them and look how that worked out, I'm not going to trust RD. I'll judge him not now but in the summer and then on an ongoing rolling basis.
I will be interested in how Reza and PP (if playing) fare against the tough tackling Wednesday and Millwall defenders in the coming up away games. At least we knew Yann could defend himself!
Bit late now for me to trawl over what others have done so well (in some cases). There really were positives; decent passing, a nippy forward with good touch, skilful midfielders comfortable in possession. And yet we lost at home again to another well-organised but moderate side.
If this had been played in October I'd be thinking we'll be fine if we're patient and let the new players settle. But as the games begin to trickle away and a gap begins to open above Millwall, and those games in hand look less likely to supply the points they might've done a couple of months ago, encouraging performances without points clearly won't be enough. Somehow, we've just got to start scoring. Along with Solly & Wiggins coming back this loan window looks our only realistic hope to supply the new strike force with a reasonable level of ammunition with which to judge them. Good luck boys...
