Ha - I was dragged up in the next village along!

I can't imagine they do much veggie food in The Bottle & Glass!

What is our biggest away following north of Watford? I know we took 10,000 to Old Trafford for the D:Ream cup game. How many went to Blackburn, Forest and Boro for those big games?

Between 4500-6000 with the others. Am certain that the United game will probably have been our biggest away following in our history.
  • if we win agenst wensday then we will bring os many fans to the next game, home or away.

I hope it was a record, I took a week off of work to volunteer to take bookings and help organise the coach travel and often not getting finish the paperwork until midnight. I recall walking into Charlton Bank (Barclays?) with 10K cash and handing it over. Still had to send the wife to queue up for our match tickets for 4 hours along with everybody else too.

You're either on an i-phone or you have had a stroke JMF ;0)

If we get past this round, I reckon we will have a great turnout. A little compensation maybe after a desperate season so far!

Wimbledon away, Boxing day 1998 - 11,000. Not up north obviously, but still an away following.

Also what route would you recommened taking to get to the ground from the coach station? @operationpig

Which coach station are you coming to? If in town you can walk through to Church Street area and catch a tram from Fitzalan Square. Or if coming from Meadaowhall you are best getting tram. A taxi would be £10 or so from either.

somewhere with a decent getaway chance after the game, and then go into Sheffield for somewhere reasonable for a (veggie.....yes I know) lunch.
Any suggestions where to park, how to get to the town centre and back (guessing Tram), and a reasonable place for lunch with a veggie choice?
    Cheers.

Depends whay you want to go back into town. If you're driving up you could easily park at Meadowhall shopping centre (free all day) or even at the Meadowhall station car park (also free) and get the tram. You can get off in town on the way or stay on tram all the way to Hillsborough. As others have said it's 15 minutes to town and about 30 minutes to Hillsborough/ Leppings Lane.

If you want Veggie food ther'se a great veggie / vegan cafe in town, but it won't be open after the game. It's called the Blue Moon cafe, a bit of a leftie hangout, students, social workers, kind of place. Very good food, my wife, daughter and mother (all veggie's) all agree. It'll probably shut in afternoon, but a good stop for lunch (or dinner in Sheffield ;) ) It's next to the Catherdral and has a tram stop almost outside.

Arsenal 1968 may well have been bigger, and Palace that year too, but they were in London.

Blue Moon it is for Saturday lunch. Does the tram go straight from there to the ground? I'm going to get there early enough to park up I hope.
  • We took 7k for the Riverside did we not? (free trains with the £20 ticket, and subsidised flights tho)

Bus parade no, civic reception yes, at the request of the council. Still embarrassing.
  • The more valid question is what have been our biggest supports oooop north without free/subsidised travel?
Think villa was about 3,500 GH and we probably sold out a few other prem games up north when we first went up due to the novelty factor.
Liverpool in the league cup 95/96?

  • This game will get called off IMO
  • Liverpool we had the whole end, Kim Grant screamer. And it was midweek

And that was when we were getting 7/8k crowds
  • 1995 we played Liverpool away in the FA Cup and lost 2-1
1996 we played Liverpool away in the League Cup and lost 4-1

    both of em midweek

Can't remember which one had the bigger following , was pissed in those days so the memory wasn't great
  • FA Cup by a mile

Didn't we (almost) fill the away end at Blackburn (which holds 8,000)?
  • Will this game be on Saturday? weather forecast dont look to clever.
  • Didn't we (almost) fill the away end at Blackburn (which holds 8,000)?

I thought we took less than 6k and I didn't think the away held 8k?
  • shows how the fa cup is viewed now 20 years ago we would have sold the whole end out a la Bristol City.

We only had half that stand.

FA Cup was somewhere between 5k and 6k, the League Cup was a much lower (but still respectable) 2.5k to 3k.

Can't remember what the Scousers allocated us for the league games there, but we certainly sold out for our first Prem trip up there (3-3, played brilliant, should have won) and our final Premier League game there (2-2, played brilliant, should have won, Darren Randolph should have been given a 5 year contract of the back of his superb peformance).
