We got 6 tickets together in the West but 2 are for kids who won't be able to make it for a midweek fixture I don't care for the Cup but will go cos I have nothing better to do
Meanwhile perhaps we could get back to the original post. Some background to this ....... I think I was at the last FF meeting ( for the trust) and I did question the idea of a free FA ticket to season ticket holders, Not sure I got a direct answer from the CAFC reps there. Personally speaking I am quite concerned at the attitude of CAFC at these cup games. At the last Eltham addicks meeting, Jackson thought it was okay to play 'squad' players, a comment that did not go unchallenged if I recall?, with some fan's suggesting that a cup run was something that they wanted to see. A view that I have expressed on more than one occasion myself at various supporter meeting's, and on websites such as this. 'Sweet FA' I call it?. I do remember asking Parkinson about the cup games and the attitude, at Bromley. And Chris Powell at Dartford, I was not convinced by either, but accepted the view that the league was the important goal, at the time. The minutes of the last Fans forum were proposed to be made public at this meeting!...... I suppose to stop people like me claiming credit for publicity purposes, either for myself or the trust?. I wonder if they will be? As Airman has posted that the saving might be minimal, possibly even negative if I am correct?..... then it would be good to see the business/financial basis for this, or is this an impudent question?.
The club would be better to rope off a pitch at Sparrows Lane for the crowd that is going to turn up for this.
What clubs take cups seriously nowadays? I used to love the FA cup but its glory days were gone years ago. Shame but it aint the big prize the top 6 look to. And realistically its one of the top 6 now that will probably win it anyway.
So what are the 'significant costs' hundreds, thousands......? We shall see if the ambition 'to get as many fans as possible works on the day'? I hope it does, although I fear a poor turnout. As Rick has posted on one of the threads he questioned the financial logic of this? I see nothing wrong with asking a question, or the marketing/management of the cup games. I welcome the reduced prices by the way.
If we struggle and stumble past Oxford, and then get Arsenal at home, there won't be many being that cynical about the cup, and we will sell out. The away day at Fulham was great (as was Tottenham recently), it bonds fans even if we lose, and lets the lads know we care about them. Maybe it is my ancient years, but I like the cup myself.
If you get a big team then the magic does return, as it does if you get to a late stage. But the competition has lost something, not just in relation to us. A champions league place would help revive it but that will never happen.
I think this spells out the business case quite simply - it is only if CAFC wins 6th round and has a minimum semi final losing pay out that the numbers even register in the bigger picture. I remember a 6th round tie at Old Trafford back in 1994 - probably the only one in my lifetime?!
But it was a laugh - part of that journey 1992-98 when the club was on the up and for that reason alone the club should rethink its attitude to the most famous cup competition in the world.
The gate revenue is split, and we get 40 or 45% of any gate. Away at Old Trafford, with 70,000 at a reduced rate of £20 average ticket prices gets us £630,000 or so. We may also get TV money if we got that far/lucky/out of character. OK an away game at Newport would not get the dough, but at least if you're in the cup you have a chance of getting some money out of it.
Three - I stand corrected. I went home and away to Boro and couldn't get a ticket for Bolton - both were ties we might have won? Certainly Boro at home. With a stronger academy/squad we might have the depth to get through the earlier rounds without having an impact on league form. Up to the club if we want to turn a corner and take it seriously
Boro at home was a joke. Best crowd, noise wise, we'd had in years. Booing every time they got the ball and a massive roar every time we went forward. The players and management bottled it though, as they always seemed to in those days with good vocal support. We should have reached the final that year and would have had European football for the first time ever and Curbs would have stayed.
They should make the prize money a lot more, maybe then clubs would take it more seriously?
They should certainly make the prize money for reaching the 5th and 6th round a lot higher - this is where it gets interesting and the clubs getting that far are what make the competition.
we have made representations on the pitch, both in person and on our site but so far no comment back from the club, have the fans forum asked this too?
As a member of the FF, I can state that I have had NO contact from any fans regarding the Club's decision on this matter.
Therefore, as I myself have no problem with the manner in which the powers that be have designated which areas will be open, I have not had cause to contact the Club. I have sat in the same seat in the East Stand since it was opened & am perfectly happy to relocate to the West for this game.
I was contacted by razil last night to ask whether the arrangements were put to the FF before they were announced but as the last meeting was in early November, I told him that the Cup draw had yet to be made.
IMHO it would have been pertinent for him to mention said contact in his post earlier today.
Just find this such an odd battle to fight, I wish the trust worked to find out why the pitch is so bad, and what the club intends to do about it to give the team a chance of winning home games
We've had 2 quarter final appearances since 94 in 2000 and 2006.
So that's two in 20 years. Poor.
My choice of word is disgraceful. It's 3 in 20 years, are numbers not your strong point?! :-)
We had a fantastic chance to reach the final in 2006 as we would've had Alan Pardew's West Ham in the semis. I think we would've bottled the final but it still would've given us European football and made two of my lifelong dreams come true.

It has been mentioned on our website, at the Fans Forum I believe and in person, but I agree it could do with a follow up as no comment has so far been given.I have yet to see official minutes of the Fans Forum altho I understand it was mentioned, perhaps Fanny can concur/clarify?

Great point and nothing less than we deserved! Unbeaten over Xmas and onto FA Cup now!! #cafc

This is the point I have commented on & which was the title of this thread..

What's the other one ?
