  • According to SLP price of 18m agreed for sale of the club with new owners taking on 4m debt plus 7m to former directors the article then goes into detail about moving to the Peninsula!!

    There's nothing online.
    It's in the paper

Nothing new in the piece really other than adding weight to the validity of the takeover rumour. We can only wait.
  • Slightly disingenuous article as the mention the move to the penisula is mentioned but nowhere does it say that the new owners intend to move us.

    Keep asking the questions
  • Sheesh.
Have any of you been to Colchester Uniteds new stadium? That is what we will probably get and it is chite chite chite of the very highest order, the combined forces of Lech Poznan and Celtic couldn't raise an atmosphere there,

That hasn't stopped most on here getting all hysterical about it, so why should it stop the SLP?
  • "Stadium Morden Wharf"....."the mist rolling over the O2"..............not quite the same is it?
  • On the plus side I suppose there will be quite a lot more rolling mist.
  • We're not really big enough for a 40k seater stadium, although I suppose it is in a good location to attract new fans if it ever goes ahead.

Because they are paid to be better than that. Modestly, and under-resourced, but still professionals.

On first sight, I believe the entire article, other than the news of the price, has been lifted from CL postings. And that, if so, is poor.

However we have a professional journalist among our number so I will wait to hear his considered opinion on the article before commenting further on it

  • And away days to us by boat, I reckon every visiting team would lay on a boat trip.
  • Our repertoire of songs are low as it is, with no VFR to sing we're gonna be in trouble
  • I hope the corners are filled in, its fecking freezing at Fulham when the wind blows in from the Thames.

Very true but if you read that article quickly you think that the new owners have firm plans to move which would up the worry factor on leaving the Valley.

They may have firm plans but the article doesn't say that they do.

There'll be underfloor heating and free Bovril

Told my 8 year old this morning about the rumours and he said don't want us to move.

No doubt any stadium down there would try and take in Canary Wharf skyline and be based on US stadiums which I think was mentioned. Something like this on a smaller scale.

    Hardly

IF we were to move to a new stadium at the Peninsula it would be a swanky multi purpose venue with lots of corporate hospitality stuff, not some cheap shed. Making money out of non football activities is the way to make clubs more viable.
  • I do not know what to make of all this at all at all.

But ive now started thinking if I go to a game, pre match I can go to the Dial Arch then jump on a Clipper to the ground... (sorry - so fickle).

Agree, In this day and age, I can't see a company buying a club, and if their intention is to build a new stadium, for it to be 'just a tin shed' it's not the 90's anymore and I would hope any company knows that it's all about entertaining the masses now.

Lol, that's you sorted then? I take it you will not need a placard for the protest march from Woolwich Town Hall to The Valley? :-)

.... Making money out of non football activities is the way to make clubs more viable.
Correct. And there is still plenty of potential for that at The Valley. Anyone who suggest otherwise needs to clearly present the business facts.

  • But it's the swanky land that goes with it that they want. The Valley is for affordable housing which they have socially cleansed from the Peninsula. We're just part of a very huge package.
  • I wonder if the new stadium will have a retractable roof...
