It is really good news which they have presumably chosen to release on a bad news day. But nevertheless, I think it's a cracking idea so a big well done to all who were involved. Perhaps we can add to the collection by having TJ stuffed and put on display, or is he managing to do it all by himself?
Steve Brown's play-off final shirt signed by his team mates has been loaned by Steve Brown
and Colin Walsh's shirt from the first game back at the Valley, framed by Garry Nelson, has been loaned by a very generous lifer.
But don't feel if you haven't got stuff of this nature the museum isn't interested. Email mick.everett@cafc.co.uk with other items you want to either loan or donate.
and there is a bank account if you just want to help the museum with presenting these items

Would not be Charlton without a 'conspiracy theory ' would it....... Look no further than me Addickted? ......at least for the website 'delay' anyway......you know what us creative types are like.......

I see a certain Mr Ben Hayes had some input on the museum idea. I hope all that stuff you have been selling in the auctions is not the same stuff they think is in a cupboard at The Valley.
It could lead to some very empty glass display cabinets :-)
At the moment we would love to have some empty glass display cabinets or any display cabinets at all. Hence the need to fund raise
We do have stuff to put in them though when we get them.
There are a lot of match worn shirts, one going back to 1950 which we believe is the oldest existing Charlton shirt but they won't be for sale. Some replica shirts might.
And there will be, in time, two museums. A physical museum at the Valley and a virtual on-line museum which will have photos of people's private collections.

So so sorry to have cast the nasturtiums about Ken, in fact grovelling apologies. I thought it was a club announcement, and thus a good way to bury bad news. Apologies to all involved although I did also thank those involved. The list of folks that i owe a drink is growing!!
No probs addicted,...... Need people like you to come onboard. In fact we need a broad range of skills, and just people to help out. One of the aspects of this club is that the fan's are supportive of this type of project, or at least I hope so. Henry has got a good team, but you always need people, from a wide background, who can contribute, and i do not mean just money. Fan's were on here a few weeks ago, saying that the Valley was not special, well this project could make it special, and be created by the fan's, and players, former, and present present. Somewhere to respectfully store the material for future generations. To me it cements another link beetween fan and club, the educational benefits are immense, somewhere you can take the kids, and grandkids to. To learn about the history of the club, the area, and dare I say it social history/culture.
The plans are ambitious but can be impented in stages. We need to get the security sorted before we open as there will irreplacable items on view.
Other areas such as the video/education room can be done later.
We've already had a large donation from the Fans Forum and have some fund raising events planned.
And we're tapping into some of the contacts we have to get work done at cost where possible.
We are looking at lottery funding too but that takes time.
A virtual museum is the only way to record all the items we have and which belong to others. Most museum can only display 10 per cent of their collections at anyone time but a photo on line is not the same as seeing Mendonca's 98 shirt, medal and ball up close. Or Hurst's England cap or the five cup winners medals we have. People want to see this stuff.
Technology means we can have both. When we have the money and support of fans.
Out of interest, does anyone know how other clubs with museums got theirs off the ground? Did fans raise the money or did they club - or both?
I've got no idea myself and just wondered if other clubs benefit from the fans geneorisity in the same way ours does - i.e. paying for statues, paying for away travel for the players, sponsoring kits, paying for museums, etc.
I guess they probably do, was just wondering if anyone knows whether we are asked to dip our handss in our pockets any more than others.
A lot don't have museums. Others like Man utd are big money spinning operations. We will not be charging entry BTW.
The people at Derby, who were very helpful, are fans and collectors (one of whom is vice chairman) and they are doing it themselves. No space at the ground so they are just doing an online museum
Everton got a massive lottery grant in combination with the City of Liverpool museum to record their 10,000 items (look up the everton collection on-line, it is what I would like to see us better).
Some museums are paid for by clubs or consist of a few things in the boardroom not open to the public.
I agree we as CAFC fans are asked a lot to help fund projects. Hence we are looking at lottery funding as can't expect fans to be able, even if willing, to always donate but if people can and will then it will be gratefully recived.

Lucky we were never called Charlton United really...

Mick Everett and his fellow trustees have been working on this for some time.

What we need is money for the cabinets, fit out, security etc. We have some but need more.
And well done to the trustees for getting it to this stage.

I can't remember that being a subject the Old Masters would of made a study of.
Maybe one day they'll find and old cave painting of such an event.
Proves the point made on the CAM website that there is stuff out there but the Club have never had a place to keep it all.

(Great idea by the way - and long overdue.)

Where abouts in the north stand is it going to be?
