Brilliant news, now to get Hamer, Kermorgant, Wiggins, Morro, Cousins and Jackson on new deals.

    And Chrissy Powell himself!
Yeah c'mon sign Chrissy Powell up , that'll make the fans happy!

  • also good scoop Reams

Agreed. Perhaps the sniping against him can stop. I don't always agree with what he says but he is "one of us".

CHRIS POWELL: "I truly believe with Chris signing and other young players signing our future is bright. #cafc

I am encourage by the "our future" part of that quote. I'm hoping that there is something in the pipeline for SCP himself on the horizon.

I would dearly love for CP to get a new contract but I fear it is not going to happen. With the sale of the club in mind, I think TJ/MS will want to give potential buyers the flexibility to appoint their own manager, without a compensation issue arising.
  • Doom, Gloom, now we can sell, yadda yadda

Give some people a million quid and they complain it was not £1,000,001
  • Great news, decent enough reason to smile.

  • great news :-)
  • I'm very happy that Chris Solly has signed a new deal , i know i'm going to get shot down for saying this , but this season imo he hasn't been as good as the last 2 seasons , whether he's been playing whilst injured , i don't know, or whether uncertainty over his future has unsettled him , i'd like to believe it was the injury version , and hope he's fit soon.

Chris Powell is the big cheese imo , perhaps he has not the resale value as Chris Solly , but the impact he has , and the impact with out him is immense , he's what unites the fans , well done to the board for getting this over the line , but to messrs Tony J & Michael S , i say .... you know what you've got to do...

    Sign up Chrissy P.
  • Excellent news!

(I'm not thinking about January yet!)

This has made my day even if I fail to get into my A-level re-takes!!!

Well done to the board and I look forward to seeing Solly for a while longer.

Great photography too. I was wondering who it was since it's been reproduced here without a credit or the photographers permission ;)

Microsoft own that pic I'm pretty sure.

  • I am pleased with this, but don't for a second think this is a last minute thing that happened yesterday, the board suddenly decided to give him a contract and he signed it straight away, this would have been discussed beforehand.

Who knows, maybe the contract has been on the table for 2 months but solly's agent told him wait and see if any offers come in before committing to Charlton, or maybe the terms have been thrashed out over the past month or so, but they only agreed recently. One thing is for sure, there will be more contracts being signed in the next 3 months or so
  • Yay,
    Yay,
    and thrice Yay.

Great news and let us hope other top members of the squad follow. As before some players will leave next summer and some may sign on reduced terms for the club is losing £6M a year.
Let us see who we might sign on loan to strengthen both squad and team...like last season, most games will be settled by just one goal...so far the current squad looks better than last season - more experience at this level and none of the players who have left (bar Fuller) made a big difference...
    Looking forward to Watford

January window going to be very interesting - who will splash out to push on etc.
  • Fantastic news. Now for the other key players, then I'll be tempted to think they at least had an idea of a plan.
  • Well done to the 'incompetent mugs' who run our club.

    And thank you Chris Solly!

Cryptic clue there as to our new owners !!!

And before that: "“He’s very important to me and my plans moving forward with this club..."

Hopefully it's also a hint that CP will be signing/has signed a new contract too.

  • Doing a Sex wee over this news.
  • from CP on BBC website:

"He's very important to me and my plans moving forward with this club," Powell added.
  • Fantastic news.

Have a feeling there will be a lot more contract news between now and Jan.
