Please please be true. Would be a good talking point at the press conference tomorrow.

And also diverts the press asking RD about his transfer policy or any other awkward questions.
A slightly cynical post I feel

I don't believe he has any problem with awkward questions ...he has a lot of media experience

Would be surprised if Rolands just decided now instead of the moment he'd taken over. What has Powell really done in the games since to warrant a deal?

Maybe Roland had a look around and decided there was no-one better.

Perhaps seen how much support he has from the fans?

It's rumoured that Chris Powell will get a new contract, with Tony Blair appointed as Assistant Manager.

Not good news for Alex Dyer.

Good. It's his stupid fault we're in the bottom three anyway. Right?

Great news if it's true. The mail hasn't been the most reliable source of news in recent months .

Good job it's the Telegraph then.

    Good point !
  • Err, could you put a cardi over 2 seats for myself & Mr F tomorrow night, please Henry ?

    Front row, of course.....thanks!
  • If this is true?!?
I think it could be a very clever and very well timed press conference tomorrow. I think a statement from RD confirming this would give everyone at the club, players, (most) supporters, Chris and his staff a real boost going into the back end of the season. I feel it would give all concerned the chance to get ourselves out of this mess (league position) and push for a WEMBLEY appearance!
COME ON YOU REDS........and Roland don't let me down!!!

Interesting that quite a few are looking at alternative reasons as to why he is doing it.

Maybe, just maybe, he thinks CP is the best man for the job like the majority of fans do.

I do hope this is true, even if people don't rate him they must see that this will give the players/staff stability to perform better knowing that the manager won't be sacked immediately.

So come on RD, announce this tomorrow.

    Amazing!
  • If true I wonder what Yann thinks. Could have stayed with Powelly, had hero satus of keeping us up AND played in the FA Cup final at Wembley had he stayed. Instead he gets to sit on the bench at a club with a 10,000 seater stadium.
  • Can you imagine if RD announces that Powell has a new contract with the club then Yann walks in wearing a Charlton shirt saying he'd had second thoughts and Bournemouth agreed to let him return to his one love. Charlton Athletic Football club.

I would go absolutely f@cking mental if that happened!

This is the most important news most of us have been looking for since the takeover. I hope it is true. If so, I feel the club can, at last, start to move forward after the unfortunate "stutter" in our progress caused by the financial breakdown between the previous owners. 100% support for Chris Powell!!

Not gonna think too much about it until a few more details emerge. Unusual for something charlton to first come for the telegraph

That is what gives me hope. The fact that it isn't the Mail or the SLP leaking the story.

Roland has had enough spies in the camp to get advise on whether he is the right man or not.

Powell has obviously said & done the right things, at least off the pitch, to please the new man.

    Yeah ......... where's Cawley?

  • i have said that i believe Chris Powell is the best man to run with Roland's plan, i just hope he adapts with it, as over the last couple of months he has come up way short

The validity of any new contract will best be judged at the end of the season. I can't believe that there wouldn't be a relegation clause in there.

still waiting for powell to agree that severance package with jiminez...
  • Good news if true, but still wish it had happened a month ago.
  • They're running scared of all the revelations of CP and AD at Bromley Addicks tomorrow night. Now they've signed they'll have to keep stum :)

Really hope this happens. Would be cracking news.
  • Good if not a little surprising news. Timing seems very odd. Hope it galvanises the club to unite and get out of relegation trouble.
