I think the fact that this news has broken with Rick saying due diligence has been happening for some weeks without anyone "ITK" saying something is happening makes me think that this has more legs than people are giving it credit for. Then again i might just be being optimistic.
There is, however, the moral dilemna of where is this Russian money coming from. If it's from an oligarch then would people be happy with them spending money on the club? Many Russian billionaires are billionaires so quickly after the fall of the soviet union because of mafia connections and dodgy dealings. I'm making a wild generalisation here and I'm sure there are many "straight edge" seriously rich Russians in the world.
I don't share your confidence about that. I think you'll find that most of the "seriously rich" Russians got their dosh by plundering state assets.
I said that just in case the Russian guy is reading! Don't wanna be the reason he pulls out ayy.
But i agree, thus why i'm saying would you still be happy with a russian billionaire throwing round his dosh?

Well he's potentially put the kybosh on it now, hasn't he. Nice one.
If it has got that far then I doubt Airman's 'leak' would kill the deal.
Really? Been involved with many dd exercises have you?

I have. Each deal is different, of course, but the last thing anyone on either side usually wants is the deal leaking out before they are good and ready. That kind of shit has a tendency to sour things.
Of course, things may be getting leaked deliberately for a variety of reasons. But in my view the best policy is to keep Schtum until its a done deal.
Unless you are trying to make things difficult, of course.
But what if the deal has already collapsed and the potential investors have already walked away ?
just being devils advocate , I think that its another wait and see scenario and then more disappointment myself but I don't think we should criticise those that are brave enough to post on here things they have heard without getting shot down

Yes somebody putting a bit of info on a forum is going to be a deal breaker...blast !
What, that due diligence had been going on for weeks? Don't think so.
If the deal dies I doubt it'll be because of something written here.
You'd be surprised about what does and doesn't scupper deals. A lot of these things are still done on gut feelings.
All Rick has said is that DD is underway and named a representative of the vendor - he hasn't identified a buyer or even the mystery person behind Slater/TJ. I can appreciate that there's a need for confidentiality in these sort of deals, but if this comes to nothing we'll be none the wiser about who the potential buyer is.

Several
Well then you'll appreciate that the control of information is absolutely crucial.

Depends how much of it he was throwing our way! Seriously, it would hardly be the first time the Russians encountered doubts about the origins of their wealth. I suppose each of us fans would look to his conscience - not unlike if a payday loan company were to sponsor the shirts; (see discussions passim.)

Then it doesn't really matter.
Unless of course there are other interested parties who are put off by an apparent leak.
Oh well, I'm clearly getting nowhere here. People seem to think that their "right" to know is more important than anything else and nothing I can say will change that.
Just a difference of opinion and viewpoint I guess.
personally off it I think that it was deemed important at one stage for radio silence and that this time has passed and another way has been deemed important and that is what has happened here

this news has broken from the daily mail, so i dont think CL would take any blame if they are put off by a leak
There must be a reason why CP has hardly talked about any transfers. Also, if things were stable at the club, we probably would have heard more about whether we are in for Obika.
I think everyone needs to calm down a little bit here. The only mainstream media report thus far is from a (very poor) Daily Mail article which spelt Larnaca incorrectly & cited that we spent 9 years in the Premiership. Until we see anything from anywhere else then it's unlucky this story has (a) truth or (b) legs to actually become a reality. Nevertheless an interest read on a Sunday if nothing else.
Well, we haven't discussed this for at least two weeks. The closer we get to the start of the season, the more urgent this subject becomes. Some of us Lifers think that if we don't recruit any players we'll be in serious danger of relegation again....

Did you read Airman's post?
Yes, "...Russian involvement is likely, but I don't have any verification of that". With respect to Airman I think we should wait until other mainstream media pick this up before we can believe it.

I wouldn't go on the fact that only one news paper has reported it , I remember that only one newspaper ( got a feeling that was the daily mirror too) reported of the Zabeel interest all those years ago
You're all discussing whether AB was right to post that; but his exact words were "but I don't have any verification for that." - someone saying that on a forum is no more a leak than an article in a national newspaper...!
Essentially that amounts to "it's likely, but I'm not sure - I don't have any evidence". If that is going to force someone in to cancelling the deal then I would suspect the Daily Mail article would already have turned it sour.
The Daily Mail has much much much more coverage than this forum, seemingly that may come as a surprise to some of you! Furthermore, unlike Airman Brown, the Daily Mail have covered it as if it's a definite.
I for one am I thankful that Airman Brown posted that. He didn't offer any cast iron evidence, but he did post his (usually very valuable) input.
