I like Hamer and he's without doubt our no1 keeper. What I don't like though is the way he seems to blame his teammates when we let in a goal. Just watched the highlights from yesterday and he stood there with his arms open as if to say 'why didn't you clear it' when he completely missed the ball from the corner.
He was brilliant v palace - made 4 world class saves in the 2nd half. One cock-up and people just jump on the Hamer bashing - shocking.
He screwed up for the first at Palace didn't he ?
Fact is that when he makes a great save he's done the job he trains hard for & earned his money. When he gets it wrong he's dropped a bollock - same for a striker or any other position and that includes the manager (and many other non-football professions).

LOL. Every keeper I've ever seen or played with did this.
Whatever next players getting criticised on a football forum, get over yourselves
I've never rated him but the fact is he is totally out of form and if Yann kept missing sitters or if morro kept giving away howlers they would be dropped so why not the keeper
Last season was different but we have someone highly rated on the bench now and I think it's worth a go
Apologies for daring to criticise....
What like BWP last season or Morro (at the start of) this season?

Not Bob Bolder. He always used to stand there with his hand up appealing for offside. You watch the end of season videos.
I'm sure he even appealed for offside when he let in a penalty once. It just became second nature to him to appeal for something.
The thing with keepers though is they're rarely helped by being dropped. Their job is extremely different to that of an outfield player's; it's not necessarily the same to say a keeper making a mistake is the same as a striker missing a sitter. Outfield players can make the equivalent mistake further up the pitch - i.e. poor positioning, a misplaced pass, misjudging the flight of the ball etc - and it doesn't have the same effect on the score and as a result doesn't look so bad to the casual observer. If you made noise about dropping outfield players for these kind of mistakes every game you'd be rotating your team like Rafa on crack.
Add to this the fact that goalkeepers are a strange breed of people. They're generally nuts and they're almost always confidence players; it goes with the role. Outfielders can benefit from being given a break but more often that not it'll strike a blow to the keeper's confidence. They need game after game after game to get confident and shake off mistakes, not to be hauled out of the team every time something goes wrong. You don't want your keeper facing that extra pressure when the ball comes flying in. I have no doubt that David de Gea would be a more convincing keeper than he is now if Sir Alex had left him in goal all season rather than rotating him endlessly with Lindergaard.
No-one in the 'drop Hamer' camp seems to have given much thought to the effect changing the keeper at short notice would have on the team as a whole either. For a start Button would have to come in and face down some very difficult matches without much game time, and the defence would have to get to grips with a new style of goalkeeping. Hamer is a very confident kicker of the ball; will Button want to be given so much freedom with the ball at his feet or will be want shorter options? How quickly does he come off his line? How does he want the backline to set up and how does that tally up with what the back four are used to? All coachable but not necessarily advisable off the back of a poor run of games and against some difficult teams.
Essentially, I think we shouldn't drop Hamer as I feel it will do more damage than good at this point. Hamer is a young keeper who's done some fantastic work in goal this season, as well as made a few howlers, as all keepers will. I'd say dropping him would more likely affect his confidence rather than help his form and it would be asking a lot of Button and our defence to start making big changes ahead of some tough games. I'm not saying you never change the keeper, but in this context it would be an unhelpful choice. There we go, I think that's a fair response to people who think anyone against the idea of dropping Hamer is just mindlessly defending him without justification.
Although Im not in favour of dropping Ben Hamer it is reasonable to assume that David Button is a capable keeper. He has 31 caps for England youth teams and has played around 80 games in the lower leagues including 9 in the championship.
commanding his area is his only real weakness as he has made some great saves for us this season. dropping him would not help the team and i think he can improve ,probably one of the best keepers in the division.
Best keeper we've had in a long time, made countless saves this season to spare our defence's blushes, from what little I have seen of Button he doesn't warrant a start, and if I am honest I don't see why we didn't just stick with Sullivan as the number 2 and Pope as backup.
What annoys me about Hamer is when he does make a cock up (whether it's a costly one or not) he will blame everyone else rather than just hold his hands up and admit his error.

Well according to plenty on here he is not to blame so has nothing to be sorry about.
Keepers are paid to make saves and Hamer certainly does that. He is a great shot stopper. But, that isnt all that a keeper has to contend with. Crosses and balls in the air are a big part of the game too. Like probably many people on here, my heart goes in my mouth everytime a cross is lumped into our Box. Hamer is just very poor at dealing with crosses. If he makes us feel nervy then what does he make the defence feel like !!!

Cracking fella though.

If he plays on Tuesday I hope we are talking about him for the right reasons

(Calm down, was trying to lighten the mood)
Funny how, 45 post after his opening comment, he's yet to elaborate a bit more on his insight.....................
Much like Powell, his poo don't smell.
