  • Why are we signing left backs when we need strikers?

    Powell out.

    Otherwise a good signing.
  • Chuffed. All coming together nicely.

Pleased he has signed on for another year. I thought he looked good last year and unfortunate to be dropped when Wiggins was fit. Although i do really rate Wiggins. Very rare do we have two good left backs.

Turns out SCP knows a bit about good left backs!
  • OK. So Ceddy, or his 'Dubai based agent' blinked first...I hope.
If the signing of Evina (who I thought made significant progress last season) was made in the context of the club not flopping and giving the 'Dubai based agent' whatever they wanted, then good. Maybe it is a sign of more realism all round.
  • Powell always wins. ;-)
  • SO pleased this has been confirmed.

Whether TJ's arm is now firmly twisted behind his back, or not, SCP has done what SCP does best (again) ...

    Well done to all concerned.
  • Cedric speaks French, as does Yann and Dorian, all points to the Alano fella coming in IMHO.
  • As good as Wiggins is I'd be ok if we got a couple of million for him to fund new players and have Ceddy as 1st choice left back.
  • Not sure why you lot are so chuffed about signing Evina. For me, he's not a signing that has strengthened us. Fingers crossed Wiggins stays fit then.
  • Good player. Pleased

Given he was here last season I don't see it as strengthening. More that had he not signed we'd be left with untried back up or could potentially end up panic signing someone not as good.

More that we have not been weakened. I thought he did a great job after he settled in and will get even better with experience. Teams that go down have no decent back up when things go wrong. There are very few, if any, number 2's at left back in this league as good as him and if he was not up against one of the top three left backs in this league he would be giving the rest a run for their money for a starting place.

Plus of course we will need this calibre of back up when we go up.
  • We Signed an able deputy. Strengthened our squad.
Great as i Think we could Sell rhys for 2-3M next Season And by then evina could be the Real Deal. He has Super Touch But is headless at Times positionally. I can forgive this as he is still 21

I dont advocate such Strategies but its a necessary evil

  • Decent, young pro. Glad he has re-signed. Gives cover at LB but also LW if needed.

Unlikley, but would love us to see us buy 2 quality strikers, a speedy, skillful RW and beast of a CM.

Isn't Wiggins out of contract next summer? If he's worth anything like you say we need to sell him now as his agent will never let him sign a contract we can afford if he is going to be as good as you suggest.

He's worth nowhere near 2-3m, especially as isn't he on the last year of his contract?
  • Sorry but Evina is not god enough and has shown me nothing to convince me he will ever be so. We were at our worst last year when we had Kerkar and Evina on the left. Truly shockingly bad. Gives me shivers!

Totally disagree. Evina is good enough.

Evina stepped up well IMO. Did pretty good when he must've had zero confidence after being pushed down the pecking order so much.

Also, when did our left ever rely on Evina and Kerkar as a partnership? Kerkar essentially got binned after Millwall (A), I'm sure Evina was introduced in to the team after. (As we were still using Seabourne up until then?)

completely disagree, excellent cover. And who better to judge a left back than Powell!

Disagree with meldrew66 too. Very good cover indeed, happy he is staying.

  • I still believe he should have been played at left back last season when Wiggins got injured, instead of playing Solly there then bringing in unfit loanees can't have done his confidence any good.

Agree. CP seemed to lack trust in him but when CE did come in he did well and was unfortunate to lose his place even if bringing back Wiggins was the right decision.

    Pleased he's re-signed, good player.

Bromley Addicks sponsored his shirt last year.

Still have the signed shirt as the ungrateful sod who won it by ripping off his mate in the raffle hasn't picked it up.

    ; - )
Surprised that you haven't auctioned it off again yet.
  • Great news, spoke to Cedy end of season and he desperately wanted 1st team football which was understandable. SCP knows his worth to the squad especially if a big money offer should come in for Wiggy. Like a new signing as far as I am concerned well done Chrissy your man management skills never cease to amaze me. Happy days COYR.

  • This has gone down so well maybe CP should consider releasing all our players and then just resigning them just to keep morale up.

I'm so glad you added 'them just to keep morale up' to the sentence!

  • Good squad player, a year deal allows us to see where we are and where he is at the end of the season.

Hopefully Wiggins will sign a contract extension. We've also got 3 promising left backs in the u21s and u18s who will be looking to challenge Wiggins and Evina in the next few years.
  • I will concede that he is probably good enough to be a squad/cover player only which is where, I believe, SCP also sees him. Nobody will be happier than me if he morphs into another Solly but I won't be holding my breath on that one!
  • Well done Charlton Athletic Football Club.

It made no sense to offer Evina a two-year deal, he rejected the offer the Club did make (that was his prerogative) and looked around. He eventually signed on the Club's terms. Chris Powell will now have options at the end of the forthcoming season.

Very encouraging. No drama just good management.
