New Breed of Supporter

"New breed"? Leave it out, same as it always has been, just in the past there was no Internet so unless it happened in front of you then you were none the wiser.
As others have said, blokes in their thirties/forties equally involved as "kids". Have a go at the idiotic behaviour but don't blame the youngsters.0 -
yes, what i was saying. always been there. some ways your glad they are there and in others you wish they weren’t. either way they aint new.LeaburnForEngland said:"New breed"? Sometimes I despair. A few people obviously crossed the line, and damaging cars is outright wrong, but in general I thought the support was excellent. Once again, we had support to be proud of inside the stadium, and we can start to get rid of the whole 'anorak' image. Also, this generalisation of all teenagers crossing the line is ridiculous. Most the people causing trouble today were past their 20's. I'm 17 and it's pretty frustrating to hear older Lifers treat all of the club's future supporters with the same views. Obivoulsy, we don't wanna turn into Millwall, but we're nowhere near that and it's far better than being laughed at.0

Saw lots of kids chucking beer over each other before the game. Saw mostly blokes in their 30s or 40s trashing cars afterwards. Nonsense to say it was all kids. Even more nonsense to suggest it is a new thing.0
-
Exactly. And people blaming films like football factory? Have you not watch football factory? It's all middle aged balding men. Point proven.Clem_Snide said:Saw lots of kids chucking beer over each other before the game. Saw mostly blokes in their 30s or 40s trashing cars afterwards. Nonsense to say it was all kids. Don't believe we're all saying it was "all kids".Clem_Snide said:Saw lots of kids chucking beer over each other before the game. Saw mostly blokes in their 30s or 40s trashing cars afterwards. Nonsense to say it was all kids. Even more nonsense to suggest it is a new thing.
Plenty of generalisations on tonight's threads...including those referring to "pensioners"

Have to agree with Karim_myBagheri. Wasn't there today either but think it's a tad naive to talk of a 'new breed' of wrong uns. Distinctly remember being in a 150+ group of lads after a midweek League Cup game at Selhurst circa 94/95 (lost 3-1, Leaburn on the scoresheet) and on the walk back to the station some knobs were kicking in headlights and smashing wing mirrors. A middle aged black guy riding his bike was also racially abused. Wasn't my idea of fun so was glad to get to the station.
Didn't recognise a lot of them from away trips at Barnsley or Grimsby so the point being, the club has always had people who'll turn up for certain games. Sad but true.0 -
It's a chicken and egg situation though isn't it? Effwits ripping out seats and vandalising inside and outside the ground raises our 'profile' and makes it more and more likely that the Police will go into overkill.WSS said:Wouldn't have happened if they let people walk to station and just blocked side roads.
Absolutely baffling strategy.
Would the Police have been so heavy handed if there hadn't been the aggro at Millwall earlier in the season?
If everyone who attends football behaved in a decent manner there would be no need for the Police to be there at all.
It's the mindless minority ruining it for the rest of us as usual and I don't think those who miss behaved can seek to justify by saying the police provoked it.

So are we agreed that @ashaddick is talking shite ?

A lot of people posting that didn't go today and haven't been to away games for a long while.
Thought it was the best away support for ages.
Stay at home eh.0 -

Some of us who don't travel away probably do so because they don't want to get caught up with idiots with flares/smoke bombs, throw seats, mess up toilets and who cause damage to other people's property. I want to know that I can get to a match, watch it safely (sitting down) and get home again safely. I'm all for supporting the team but all the stupidity that seems to go with some of the away matches just isn't worth the hassle.falconwood_1 said:A lot of people posting that didn't go today and haven't been to away games for a long while.

I've been to Elland Road, the Reebok and Hillsborough this season and seen nothing to concern me so it's not a routine away event. Like I said earlier, it's certain games.0

do you mean me ?0

Think that's majorly over the top, doubt there was any charlton fan whose day was ruined. Seen quite a lot of your posts and you seem quite delicate and like a good moan about our supporters.ME14addick said:

Clubs will always have there idiots (vandalising cars for example) but I think our supporters actual enjoyed the day excluding the result0 -

I don't condone it but if a palace mob started kicking everything out you and our boys came to your rescue, you would regard them as heros. Have to sat though vandalising cars is a bit low for mature blokes.Folev the red said:Mob mentality, wouldn't do it if they were on their own. There would be no one there for them to impress.

'Gjunior' I'm a woman in my mid 50's and all of those things I mentioned MATTER to me. I freely admit I don't like the actions of certain of our 'supporters'. I just don't think a lot of it is necessary. I take my 85 year old father to all our home matches, but we don't travel away because we need to know we can SIT and watch the match without the problems that seem to occur away from home.0

But it seems your making a big deal out of it. Making out as if it happens all the time when it doesn't.ME14addick said:'Gjunior' I'm a woman in my mid 50's and all of those things I mentioned MATTER to me. Things like this happen at 2 games per season, palace and Millwall. Smoke bombs also came to Bristol. Not seen Nothing like that happen at other aways I've been to this season like Birmingham, forest, Ipswich, Burnley or wolves.0 -
GJ there are several threads on here, with many comments about the events of today - it seems there is quite a lot to be making a big deal about. I care when the good name of the club I love is dragged down by a few idiots.0
-
You don't go much ME14. Maybe that's a good thing considering how miserable it makes you.0
-
You sound like a right barrel of laughs. Why not trŷ slagging off the Nigel's rather than your own. Weird.Ashaddick said:I have no time for young twats wearing my teams colours and allegedly supporting that team smashing up other clubs grounds and running up and down the roads around that ground smashing up cars belonging to people living there. But that's what has happened today.......it's a game of fucking football you pea brained little idiots.
