  • 1st half was like a library from both sets of fans but atmosphere in the 2nd half was much much better

What?! I can't have that. The first half was noisy for a good half an hour, with them making more noise, but not by a lot. The VFR at 3.07 was excellent. Went quiet for a bit as half time approached.
Agree thqat the second half was good though.
  • Yea the 3.07 was good. I just thought 1st half was very quiet at time, and I'm in the upper north. Second half was class
  • Felt sorry for Morro, it was a tomb after their first until HT (although there was a wee chant for him that may have been audible on the pitch).
  • Hulse easily man of the match/ confidence boost to play well at home like that/ Powell pleased therefore team pleased/ you almost look forward to the away games now. Pleased for pritchard and wilson (2 workhorses) Defence needs to be settled before we can rely on them/ Fa cup is going to be what we play for this season and not promotion. We deserve something to strive for.. let it be that..until we get knocked out of course! onwards and upwards.

I assume that is tongue in cheek as our track record of late is not good. So don't hold your breath as I can see SCP giving a number of squad players and maybe the odd youngster some game time against Udders.
  • Wilson and frimpong were solid, dale stephens had a good game too - two mistakes cost us the goals, we should have taken all three points.
  • We shouldn't forget that we are only four points of fthe play off places. I think many of us would have taken that a few games ago.

and what was on on offer from Mr Slater 15(?) months ago! Year 1 "one aim" year 2 - find our feet... year 3 promotion

Brighton had enough of the play (59% according to the BBC), and enough shots to deserve a point.
  • But a lot of their play was kicking it between back 4 and their keeper!

I would like to see how much possession they had in our half vs our possession in theirs?

A draw was fair but I really hoped we could sneak a win and actually thought our attacks more threatening ... put Fuller in the mix and we can take on anyone in this division

I think your last paragraph is spot on and is what makes this league the most exciting league.

I haven't read all the posts, but I'm surprised that powells tactics have not been mentioned, I thought they were excellent.
We started 442, we scored and went 451 with Haynes out on the right. Because BHA have no lumps up top they had to play through the midfield. Our defense won every header. So putting five in the middle worked well. They got one back from a mistake, we went 442 again, scored and then back to 451. Great work Mr Powell.
I thought it was a great game of football, fair result. Hamer was outstanding, MOM. Devitte was excellent as well, another excellent change by our manager.
I thought BHA deserve a pat on the back for playing football from the back as well!
    Pleased with result.

You could also say that we went a goal up playing 442, went slightly more defensive and conceded. Went 442 again went a goal up, went slightly more defensive again and conceded.
So I don't think the change in formation is evidence of excellent tactics.
  • then we should have played 442 all game and won 4-0.. i love chrissy!

    Exactly :)

It isn't as simple as that though is it? The reason we lost two points was a mistake by Morro and a silly free kick given away and a lucky deflection. Although, I did think their players were looking to go over the foot a bit much, but ref was a bit clueless, unfortuantely for us.
  • Wasn't a lucky deflection. Surprised not mentioned previously, but the wall split and ball went between Morro and Hulse, hitting Morro's leg and went in. If the wall had stayed firm it would not have been a goal. Not as bad as Nasri, but SCP will be very unhappy with the defensive wall there.
  • Point taken - but you still need a bit of luck - it could have gone wide or balooned over the bar. Really would like to see a player on the line for those close free kicks.

Depends how empty your glass is. You could say that, but if you read my post again, the first goal was a mistake.
They scored from two defensive errors, 1 was a fluke freekick as well, you cant legislate for that.

So it was an unlucky deflection?

  • No, Oggy it was a defensive error. A wall means just that, not one with several bricks missing. Defensive cock up I am afraid as there shouldn't be any deflection.
  • It can be both -the wall should have stood up better but when it deflected, it went in the worst possible direction.

I think that is a good summary of the situation a cock up compounded by bad luck.

  • Have just received an e-mail from Brighton's John Baine, aka Attila the Stockbroker.
