  • Good game and atmosphere, result was fair, Lawrie Wilson excellent.

    Mackail-smith should join us :-)
  • Stephens - Frimpong looked a really decent centre mid pairing. Possibly our best home performance of the season though too many individual errors. Ref was poor as usual. Not sure why Green wasn't used, think he is a much bigger goal threat than Kerkar for the last 20
  • Worth remembering that Brighton got brushed aside last week by Palace. Just saying.

Played with 10 men for 80 minutes.
Well of course we always win against ten men ?

  • Really enjoyable game, I thought. I was happy with a draw and thought they probably edged it. If you took someone along today in the hope of convincing them to get into football, you'd be pretty happy with your day's work.
  • Decent game and a fair result. I thought that Wilson, Solly, Dervitte and Hulse all did well for us. Some very nice play by Stephens and Frimpong in the first half, although their overall level dipped in the second.

You have to admire Wilson's performance after 5 weeks out, including his lung bursting run in the 94th minute. The man has steel.

Brighton are a good side, although they do flatter to deceive at times. Mackail - Smith has tremendous pace and I like the way he competes and makes a nuisance of himself, even ( given that he'a a diddyman ) when the ball is in the air. To think that the Daggers nearly missed out on his signing a few years back because he wanted 4 complementary tickets to each home match, rather than the standard two. They called that one right.

Am very happy with our progress thus far. Another point on the board, an 11 point buffer from the drop zone and well on the way to our first target of 50 points
  • Enjoyed the game, felt we might nick it, but can't complain at the result. Brighton are a pacy team with good finishers which is why when the mistake let Mackail-Smith through, it was almost inevitable he would score. I thought we looked a bit unbalanced on left again, has Seabourne gone back to Saints? Was really pleased Pritchard finally scored, he's been getting closer. I understand why people think he's too lightweight, but he really works hard and is an organiser. I think this is some of what CP sees in him, his abilities on that score offsetting the lack of pace and size. Hulse was being fouled non-stop - the ref and lino on the east were crap - we didn't even get anything when one of theirs piled on top of Frimpong (I think it was anyway).
One thing that was interesting was the contrast in distribution from goal kicks, BHA play it short and build, we hoof it up and hope. IMO ours is not the best strategy and is also risky when the opposition have pace on the break, as BHA do.
Enjoyed the songs as well, from both sides. "We hate Palace more than you" back and forth in the first half. Deffo fancy the Amex away after that as well.
  • An excellent tactical plan and clever team selection to counter Brighton's 4-3-3 system and style of play. Pritchard playing behind Hulse in a 4-4-1-1, with Haynes on the right, showed tactical flexibility to suit this type of game. Cort would have been unsuited to Brighton's quick attacking play through the middle.
Pritchard occupied the space in which much of Brighton's build-up play flows through Bridcutt and we forced them into playing more long balls from back to front than they would have liked.
Unfortunately individual errors resulted in two opposition goals, but I thought we stopped them playing out of the back really well for long spells.
In attacking play, we created a number of chances with some excellent build-up play along the flanks involving Wilson & Solly. Hulse led the line as lone striker really well, with Haynes joining in quickly as the second striker from the right flank very effectively.
An excellent job by CP & the coaching staff. We played our part in a very entertaining game and deserved the point.
The unbeaten run continues - onto the Reebok.

  • A good game. Would have liked to see Kermo start - he is so good at flick-ons and this might have played in Haynes, who can draw off his marker and be away from him in a flash. Stephens' passing was effective and Wilson was excellent. Ditto Solly, but he's like that every week. I would have put a man back on the goal line to defend the free kick. Defence looks a bit shaky at times, but for the most part they do well.
Nice to see John Baine, aka Attila the Stockbroker, on the pitch before k.o. Used to have a beer with him in The Evening Star in Brighton, when the Dark Star Brewery was based there.
All in all, we move onward, and upward, so heads high, everyone.
  • decent game but never felt we'd win it even when 2-1 up. 2 or 3 players away from looking up rather than down still. Wilson and Dervitte were both good - would have put Haynes on as a late impact sub personally rather than start him, particularly if using him as a right winger - not sure kermo is the player he was last year - they always carried a threat and we were too occupied containing them to ever really get on top other than 5/10 mins at the start. happy with a point - a win would have been a bit fortunate.

Sadly, we got brushed aside too a few weeks back by that Selhurst team....result to be expected today then?

  • I'm still annoyed at the ref. He really blew up for everything (especially Hulse), kicked the ball to Brighton and gave them a stupid free kick when Morro clearly won the ball (and then they scored).

How many bad decisions have we had this year?!
  • Dont understand why Cort didnt start and what's happened to Seaborne?

Wilson was good going forward but not so good at the back and Morro had a rare off day. Dervite and Hulse both played well.

    Pleased with a point..
  • according to OS Seaborne was ill
  • Just got back from game. Fair result. We tried hard to get Brighton to play the long ball by pressing their midfield and did a good job. Shame about the mistakes that led to the goals. Dervite had a great game and suspect he was in to give us faster legs with Brighton's mode of play. Solly and Wilson were great (apart from Wilson's silly tackle that cost us the free kick that led to the goal!). Disappointed with Haynes, out of the picture in the wing and Hulse who was neither heading nor holding the ball particularly well. Would have given BWP and Kerma.. a shot at this one. Stevens is showing his class, hopefully he will stay in Jan. Frimpong was still not sharp enough and needs to raise work-rate but showed a few moments of excellence. Pritchard and Jackson worked like trojans but both knackered by middle of second half and earlier subs should've helped.

Overall I'm happy with a point from that. Brighton were a decent footballing side with a dose of physicality too.

We could easily have lost today and deserve credit for competing with Brighton and indeed twice getting ourselves into a winning position.

I'm delighted Bradley Pritchard gained a well deserved reward for all his endeavour. Rob Hulse too can be proud of the shift he put in.

Unfortunately we couldn't get enough of the midfield to make the best use of Haynes' pace but this is a game many Charlton teams would have lost so, as I said, I'll take the positive of a point.
  • Good game, very entertaining and the best I have seen for a while. Brighton play some lovely football but poor defensively and we almost punished them for it. Thought Stephens had a really good game, was good to see him back to that level and hope he can stay there. Frimpong also a good player. Think we need one class act striker and winger to really push on up the league but who knows what the budget will be come Jan. Hulse worked his socks off and played really well.
  • Lua Lua big player for them when he came on; gave us trouble down the right and kept Wilson occupied, who did well to do his job and get forward on occasions. Thought the ref did well considering there were some heavy challenges going in. He was fairly consistent in letting shoulder barges go for both sides. Have seen a lot worse, and a different ref could easily have spoiled that game today.

One amazing moment when Haynes was scythed down on the flank (should have been a booking for their guy) but he got straight up to continue and get his cross in. He showed an attitude which typified the game for me; good honest sportsmanship.
  • Overall a fair result, with Brighton probably just edging it, but both of their goal were very avoidable.

I thought Wilson made a good return and probably my MOTM, Ping Pong added strength and steel to central midfield overall making a positive contribution, with one or two misplaced passes and at one stage he appeared to have lost it and the referee did about the only decent thing he did all game by having a word with him and he calmed down and focussed on the ball. I think Ping pong maybe the making of Stephens who had his best game of the season, although he needs to find his shooting boots.

Really pleased for Pritch but not his best game and I still have concerns about whether he has the strength to put in consistent performance at this level. Morrison was the opposite sort of performance to Stephen and was the architect of both of their goals. Danny Devito had another solid performance, Leon is going to be well cheesed off.

Hamer solid, along with Solly playing out of position.

Overall a good point and onwards and hopefully upwards.

  • Enjoyed the game. Entertaining football, and good to see a decent passing away team. After we scored, we allowed Brighton to pass the ball round too easily and didn't press them sufficiently at the back. When we did that, we stopped them playing and their build up play was much more hurried.

Mistake by Morrison for the well taken Mackall Smith goal, but Brighton had a lot of chances throughout the game (we had a few too). I thought Brighton's defence was shaky.

I will be really happy with to see Wiggins / Evina back at left back, which would allow us to play Solly / Wilson on the right. Wilson completed a rampaging run near the end of the game, which was excellent to see. I would like to see Haynes in a more central position. Jackson is a footballer who is skillful and can cross the ball, but the lack of pace on the left midfield position is a hindrance. Really pleased to see Bradley Pritchard score his first goal at the Valley, and the team celebration was excellent.

With all the players fit, we are starting to have the makings of a decent team. I hope Rob Hulse loan can be extended. A bit of added quality in certain positions, and we would be pushing the top 6.

2-2 was a good result for us in the end. Overall, I am happy with the point gained.

It was good to have Brighton play, with their understanding of losing their ground and recently getting back to a new home stadium.

It was excellent to celebrate 20 years back at the Valley.

  • Decent game, although I feel at times we do play far too deep.
We invite the pressure , and Brighton are a good passing team and with Mackal-Smith one of the better forward players in this division, took his goal well. Delighted for Pritchard and his goal. Ref seemed to biased against us. always a bit of dissapointment to loose two leads, but both teams put a shift in.

  • Would take a point, decent game, poor ref. Morrison mistake for 1st goal but it happens & he is usually rock solid for us - so pleased for Pritchard & his reaction summed up what it meant to him, think people forget he was playing non-league football 2 seasons ago sometimes.

Thought Hulse looked a bit lazy, or disinterested tbh. Dervite looks accomplished but where was Cort or did I miss something?

That's how I saw it. Hulse always got near the ball, but never looked like winning it. Pritchard lacked quality at times but you can't fault his endeavour. Wilson played well and it's a shame he had to play at right back as opposed to in front of Solly

Think BHA were trying to wind up Frimpong. Their antics were a shame considering they can move the ball around well

You've just reminded me - our first goal showed them to be vunerable to set pieces so what does jj do with corners after that ? play short corners and then kick it over - WHY ?
  • Good game today. The team we put out had Pritch, Frimpong and Stevens playing in their best positions but Jackson somewhat sidelined on the left. Once again Solly filled in well on the left and Wilson did okay defensively and attacked with gusto. Surprised that Dervite held his place at the expense of Cort, who was arguably our star man at millwall. Hulse and Haynes are a good combo. It was nice to have a bit of pace back in the team. Hamer pulled off some cracking saves and they missed a couple of easy chances so we did well to earn our point. Very pleased for Pritch to get his first Charlton goal but I wish Green had replaced him for the last 14 minutes or so.
  • Entertaining game, with a draw probably a fair result, although a bad mistake by Morrison for Brighton's first goal and from where I was sitting a harsh free kick decision that lead to their second. Thought Wilson did well and we certainly looked better with him and Solly in tandem. Also thought Hulse worked hard but Haynes didn't look fit to me. A bit disappointing not to win having been in front twice but now 7 unbeaten which can't be too bad.

Did we not score our first from a short corner? I was having issues at the time.

If we did them I stand corrected- I thought it had come straight over
  • Now second behind Cardiff on current form. 4 points off playoffs, I would say we are officially challenging for promotion. Not playing great though, and need a settled team for the second half of the season and desperate fit a good lb so Solly and Wilson can work the right. We also need someone to come out of the pack and score 15 goals. Someone said " We will beat Cardiff then remain unbeaten for the rest of 2012". That man was a genius.

    Were you that man, Masicat?
  • Lots of effort from both sides, a slight lack of quality.

Frimpong showed some nice touches, but lost a couple of 50/50s, being generous I'll say it was lack of match fitness, rather than desire...did you see his reaction to their second goal, he seemed distraught, albeit with a teenage tantrum!

Hulse tried hard, but wasn't particularly effective, similarly Haynes's pace was nullified by BHA playing deep.
  • Threw it away today. Decent game. Think it was even first half but we should have buried them second half. Would like to see a player on the line for free kicks like curbishley used to do.

That Mackail Smith is a quality player.
