No formal complaint to be made to policeMatt Wright reports

Following reports of the racial abuse of Charlton players during Saturday’s match against Millwall, and subsequent consultation between the club officials, the police and players concerned, it has been decided that no formal complaint will be made to the police. Charlton are satisfied that Millwall are taking the issue of racism by supporters very seriously.

..............as someone who had the dis-pleasure of sitting with a bunch of racist, Millwall thugs in the Barry Kitchener Stand on Saturday, where the stewards/officials did less than nothing about monkey chanting for 90 minutes, the suggestion that 'Millwall are taking the issue of racism by supporters very seriously' is nothing more than laughable. Are we back in the 1980's?

You shouldn't have been sat in the home end anyway? Unless you are Millwall at heart....

Fact: it happenned. Fact: I can't 'prove' it. Nothing more to be said. Will video footage of a man's face in a pose that might suggest he was making 'monkey' noises 'prove' a case? The answer is NO and therefore that's the sole reason why I see no benefit in reporting to the police what I heard or where it came from. Surely people can understand that?

There was a programme on racism on grassroots football recently, there was lots of incidents where horrible acts of racial abuse were perpetrated but no one reported them as they did not have any evidence and felt they would not be acted on. This allowed the leading organisations to proclaim there was no racism as they had received no complaints.

The lesson of this is, if you do make a complaint at least it will be listed as a complaint no matter what the response is to it.

Watch it Meldew, Dazzler will ban you cos he is such a massive admin!
  • I will add that in my 6 years that i lived in Scotland, i attended a fair amount of local football matches, first time i heard racism, i did leave it as i can understand that confusion and worry about wanting to stay out of it but i did'nt stop thinking about it and so the next 3 times i heard Racism during my stay in scotland i did report it to stewards and a local police officer working at the match, now sadly on what i have seen in football in general, especially scottish football i doubt anything happened but im glad i reported it on the other occasions.

So i understand why Meldrew left it this time but i hope he now thinks he should of spoken to someone official even if not during the match or in a hostile Millwall crowd.

Last season we had that small group of fans supposedly singing a racist song/songs.
The next week we had club officials in a frezzing cold away end at Walsall on the case, trying to point out those in the wrong.

Millwall have never done this have they?
And after how many reports of racism, this season alone even! they don't take our lead and stick someone in amongst it to get to the core of the problem.

    Scum.
