Lets concentrate on the good. Firstly I have been saying that Jackson is not up to this level and for a short time last night I thought I was correct but he played a real skippers role with two well taken goals to get us back into into it, full credit. Stephens simply had the best game I have seen him play in the red shirt and I am very pleased that he may be about to prove me completely wrong. Hulse didn't stop running, Pritchard the same the defence were mostly playing out of position so no surprise the first 20 minutes or so was a bit shaky as was the last 5 minutes and Danny Haynes proved once again that real pace gives everyone a problem.....jeez I nearly passed out!
lastly I think the ref had been given a new yellow card hence felt the need to break it in, what a twat! and I am pleased to say that whatever we got for Hudson looks like it was more than we should have he was no better last night than when he played for us.
By the way the crowd was fantastic. Congrats to the team and the supporters lets hope this is the turning point
Throat and hands are fooked! Chrissy Powells Red Army rendition lasting for 13 consecutively was hilarious, but seemed to work!
Had a feeling he would play Morro RB (see previous posts), who had a good game. If he intends to play him there until the LB situation is sorted, Dervite and Cort need more communication.
Considering its the first time they played together, first half wasn't great. But they were great second half. The injury time goals were due to us dropping deep and switching off.
What a game, what spirit, and what a HT team talk from Sir Chris...
I couldn't be there, but well done to everybody, Manager and his team, players and supporters. It was obviously one of those games that turn youngsters into supporters for life, a bit like the old Huddersfield game in the 50's.
I don't care what anyone says about bad defending, those four open play goals, particularly Jacko's header, were fantastically taken. Clinical, difficult finishes. I also find it quite amusing that people have praised Dale for his set-piece delivery yesterday, but it was the one he got wrong that got us that goal. Maybe he should always get them wrong
I wont go over what was written already, and I dont know if it's been mentioned but Hamer pulled off a couple of great saves second half when we were 2 or 3 up that kept us in the game.
I think I'm still in shock, did that really happen.
This game will go down in Charlton folklore, like the Play Off in final in 98, the Back to the Valley game in 92 and the Johnny Summers 7-6, and the same as those games, there will be 60,000 fans that will say they were there, will I was, and all those that were there, expecially the Covered End Choir, you made the difference, you/we started the turnaround, 15 mins of 'Chrissy Powells Red Army' was sensational.
To a man the responded.
JJ got his arse in gear and got a brace one with his right foot, Stephens who IMO was not at the races in the first 20mins upped his game as well. Morrison was excellent playing out of position, same goes for Solly. What a find Kerker is, obviously been practising his crossing. Hulse ran the line well, Hyanes scared the shit out of them with his pace, to a man they all played their part, but the top accolade must go to Bradley Pritchard, MOM by a country mile, he never stopped running, he covered every blade of grass, he never gave up, he put his foot in everywhere, he set up Haynes goal with a lovely first touch, brilliant display by the lad. I'm made up I really am, COYR!!
Couldn't be there due to missus being 9 months pregnant but even so it was so entertaining following the action on Sky Sports news. First we'd lost it, then won it, then nearly threw it away....only Charlton can be 3 goals up and still give their fans a nailbiting finish!
Feeling slightly less tipsy and hopefully a bit more coherent than last night now. Still absolutely buzzing though.
No matter how bad things have been while I've supported Charlton I've ALWAYS looked forward to going to the Valley - even when being served up the dross we saw towards the end of Pardew's reign.
Last night, for the first time, I was really dreading it. The talk of Powell possibly going, knowing word for word what the Alan Green wannabes behind me would say when we were losing etc.
I should have known just from that feeling that we were all set up to witness something a bit special...
On my way out of the Valley I heard a boy who must have been about 12 tell his dad "it's a funny old game" - I'm not sure if he came up with that himself on the spot, but he's not wrong.
The fans were magnificent - all set up at 0-1 then 0-2 to start losing patience with the players but our desire to let Sir Chris know we support him kept us singing. Away managers often quote the tactic of making the crowd quiet and this goes further when every small error or sideways/backwards pass is met by groans. Players are inhibited in that environment and consequently they are easier to beat. We did it because we got a sense that Powell needed us but we need to undertsand that this is where we can really act as the extra man.
I remember in the Curbs days were the crowd really were the extra man and maybe we have discovered it again. The next test will be when we go behind again at home- not playing particularly well. Do we moan and groan or keep the support going? Anyway - supporters (especially North Upper) take a bow.
As for the game - I know why Sir Chris played defensive formation he did but Morro isn't a right back - Kerkar showed enough on Saturday to suggest he might be the best temporary solution. Stephens and Pritchard were magnificent. Stephens passed the ball quickly and won tackles and looked quicker than theirs. The best game I have seen him play. Haynes worried them with their place and Hulse worked well with him.
When you start to wonder if their is a place for JJ in the side, he reminds you why there is. The two late goals conceeded could prove useful as I think we needed a reminder that this wasn't the way to go defensively though.
wow wow wow ... 5 consecutive Charton goals ... coming from 2 nil down ... against top of the table ... never gave up and we looked good ... and the Covered End was terrific ... it's nights like this that remind you why we go
Could not have been more wrong with my prediction for last night. Brilliant result. Every player who I had doubts about seems to have stepped up in 1 game! Love it, well done boys, well done chris, COYR. Next game is key, another decent result and things will look much much better
Dale looks scared of JJ. Great picture so much man love for JJ.
You don't know what JJ is doing with his left hand!
Utterly incredible game last night. Support was unbelievable, the team spirit after going 2-0 down was amazing and we actually enjoyed a little luck for once! Not something I thought I'd say after the ball somehow stayed in play after bouncing off the top of the crossbar just before their second goal!
The pace of Haynes scared the league leaders senseless and is something we've been missing for a very long time. I hope he can stay clear of injury as we need him in the team. Pritchard was the Energiser Bunny although he did run out of steam after about 75-80 minutes and I would have preferred to see him come off and some fresh legs brought on. JJ at fault for first goal but made up for that with his 2 goals, the first of which was described by SSN as "the simple task of putting the ball in the empty net." I've been slagging off Stephens for a while now but I'm the first to admit that he had a generally excellent game, although still a few blips where he lost concentration or dithered instead of releasing the ball.
The defence, sadly, was not all that I could wish for, although with 2 of them out of position I suppose that's understandable. Morro was game but was basically playing CB at RB where the 2 positions call for very different skills. Solly was his usual immense self although a couple of extremely uncharacteristic errors did crop up.
Where 6 minutes came from I will never, ever know. Barely any actual stoppages, only, what, 4 subs? The ref seemed determined to play on until Cardiff equalised and I was actually surprised that the whistle blew with the ball in our half. I was convinced it would only ever go if we started to look like scoring another!
Throat sore from singing. Hands sore from clapping. Arse sore from clenching!
Not sure if anyone noticed, but when they scored the second in injury time. The ref was rushing them to kick off and nodding his head and showing two fingers saying keep going. I was gobsmacked! Wanker
Great to see centre midfielders combine defence with ATTACK, and score three goals as a result. Can only assume Stephens was let off the leash by SCP. Particularly at home I see no reason why the holding / defensive midfielder cannot contribute further forward, especially when he has the ability to hurt the opposition and is not a defender in all but name.
Great to see such out and out pace again from Haynes. We all know how brittle he is but when ever he comes in he never seems to hide to protect himself, but plays every game as if it was his last. Hopefully it was just severe cramp last night as he jogged a little after rightly going off.
Hulse really came to life after the first goal and went from strength to strength. He was a lot more mobile too than I remember, chasing a lot down even late in the game.
I take my hat off in particular to the midfield trio of Stephens, Jacko, and Pritchard, all of whom I like, but all of whom were beginning to worry me for different reasons.
As the scoreline suggests, for the first time in a good while most of the plaudits go to the attacking players. Last season's success was built on our terrific defence but with all the recent changes it was so nice to see some flair again.
The supporters were fantastic tonight, they stuck with the team and sang even when were getting over run at 2-0. This helped and has probably been overlooked. I left at 5-2 on 89.06m as had to be at work at 11, couldnt believe it when someone told me it finished 5-4. Sort of took the edge off but glad we won.
One issue I noticed, that with both Pritchard and Morrison booked, they were able to attack down that side knowing that neither player could afford another foul. A substitute right sided player might have been useful (though probably not Green!)
I had to go out last night and so missed the most exciting game for years. Typical Charlton. Hit a golden patch, play like supermen and slam a fancied though not especially good team. I am praying that 'the golden patch' will last for the rest of the season. Has Powell found a decent team almost by default ? .. and Jackson !!! .. he's doing a great impersonation of Lazarus (not Mark)
Will add, that the only downer on my night was arriving home the same time as my Palace supporting neighbour. He was sporting the stripey Nigel replica shirt as well. Palace the footballing equivalent of Showaddywaddy.

Their goalie wont have enjoyed his journey home either.
