I wouldn't get rid of Powell. He has been hampered by injuries and not given the financial backing since we got promoted to bring in the quality in all area's we need (Fuller aside as the board could have said no to him). He done superb last year. He hasn't been in management long and still learning. There are only a couple of annoying traits in his way of running things (playing players out of position being one of them) but you can't doubt his commitment to Charlton and that in my mind is a huge bonus for any club to have that kind of feeling from the manager. I may rant at him out of frustration from time to time but i would never ask for him to go.
If the players step up and get a bit more clinical in their finishing we will easily stay in this league. We won't be in the top half, but we will stay in the league. Its just gonna be a long season.
100% behind Chris Powell. Stig's visual would look great on T shirts and flyers to distribute at the Valley. It needs to be done if TJ is thinking what we think he's thinking. Interfering bar steward.
"....I guess because the same Board member also told me they wanted 'to do a Norwich' ie. not settle for a period of consolidation in the Championship."
Well that is interesting, if one of them said that to you. When i spoke to a Board member about that during the summer, he appeared to recognise that both Norwich and especially Southampton were special cases because of their strong financial backing, which, he said himself, we did not enjoy. I am not sure which is worse, if we spoke to different board members, or the same one...
Logic suggests that as the club will probably run at a loss and not be easy to sell out of the Premier League, promotion must be an immediate target for those that only came in to make money.
I never, really, understood the motivation of the owners. I know it is possible to make a lot of money and be too stupid or too arrogant to not lose it, but surely everyone knows that it is very, very difficult to make money in football club ownership.
If they weren't planning to use the momentum of the League One season to make a challenge for the Premier League then they probably deserve to lose as much money as I suspect they will.
i love the man and what he means to charlton/fans/club but i am worried about his team he sends out on the pitch and what they are really think about him because i think he has lost the team support in him! been playing players out of position whichs always upsets the squad and he is still not sure about what is his fav team. i am very worried about this now

Like you I am looking in from the outside, but on the face of it I can't think of one squad player that hasn't been treated fairly and with respect by Chris Powell. I judge that by playing opportunities when available, by what he says about players, by the team ethic that seems to be evident this season. There are one or two players, Paul Hayes of recent times comes to mind, and Paul Benson too, may think they didn't get a fair crack of the whip, but they have not left in overtly bitter circumstances bad mouthing Chris Powell. Chris has been a players rep at all levels, and probably has a good idea about what 'loses' a footballer, drives a gulf between a player and manager. In my view Chris has not lost the dressing room by a million miles...I can't see the evidence of that at all
I keep hearing comments about players being played out of position but unless I'm mistaken that only really includes left back and there's not a lot we can do when both left backs are injured.
The other players have been listed as being able to play in more than one position. I've never really thought about it but surely all players would play where ever they're asked to wouldn't they? The more they can bring to a side the more in demand they would be, no?
We could have won the last 3 games with a bit more luck , although second half wasn't great against Middlesboro. Powell is learning and I think he makes mistakes. That said, he is the right man and should never be sacked. Given time he will be one of the greats.
He is THE man, don't blame him for injuries, he's using what we've got to the best of his ability. AND nobody's perfect, we all make mistakes. It's what we do about them that counts. LONG MAY HE REIGN!
Just out of interest, when do you think would be a right time to replace the gaffer? If and when it does happen, it sounds like some of you will ditch the club and follow him? What would you do if he left of his own accord for a better job? Football is a cut throat business and while its nice to be loyal, I don't think it always works both ways.......
If SCP leaves on his own accord to get a better job, then good luck to him. If the 'fans' want to hound him out now then that's bang out of order and incredibly shortsighted.

When we lost 6-0 to Birmingham City last season 'Only One Kenny Jackett' rang out around the ground.
Thank god.
Hmm i can't see any ?
However Chris Powell will allways have our support he knows that we know that !!

@AirmanBrown with regards to the 5 major signings Mr Varney had planned who were the other 4?
100% backing Powell.
