Should Leon Clarke be given another chance at Charlton?

  • People cant see the past the fact he had a couple of very poor games for us last season which is most likely down to him not being fit. The fact he banged them in for Chesterfield who were struggling and now Scunny who are also struggling meaning the likelihood is that hes not getting a hat full of chances every game.

As for him having a poor attitude, I cant really comment on but I have not heard CP say this and his attitude is something he can improve on.

I think with fuller, kerm and haynes out injured its a no brainer to bring him back. Unfortunately i think most fans have made there minds up about him.
  • I'd rather trust the opinion of Di Canio and SCP on Leon Clarke. What we are seeing now with Clarke is what I would call the Marcus Bent phenomenom whereby certain players make a bit of an effort to impress in their first few games with a team before allowing their egos and laziness to reassert themselves. There is a reason why such players are being constantly moved on from club to club.
  • Saying that because CP agrees is a ball sh*t argument and is stating the obvious. Like everyone else I love CP and trust that every decision he makes is 100% in the best interest of the club but CP is still learning and will make mistakes. I agree that he has a more informed opinion than us but it does not necessarily mean its correct. If he chooses not to recall Clarke I will trust his judgement but it does not mean I will agree with it.
  • I think CP is one of those who realise that form is temporary while class is permanent. Clarke has something of a history of starting well at a club and then fading - and having played for 13 clubs when you are still 27 speaks volumes I'm afraid. Di Canio had quite a lot to say on Clarke's attitude and there were similar comments surrounding his departure from the Wendies. He had plenty of chances to impress CP, who will have seen him in training, and he didn't take that opportunity.

As he has played so few games, and as I have only seen him a couple of times , and as he is prolific, then NO.
I suspect those who have slated Francis and Wilson are the ones slagging Clarke. Those who know F A - IMHO.

Think you're wrong in that last comment. A lot of people have warmed to Wilson and were trying to back him up after the slating he got after the Palace game.

The feeling towards Clarke being a 'no' is much more unanimous.

But thanks for stating that we know 'FA'.
  • But we shouldn't rule him out - we may need him at some stage and I have been watching football long enough to see players blossom.
  • I saw him both (was it only 2) times he came on the pitch for us. I also saw Wilson when he first came on. The difference was marked. Wilson clearly had bags of potential, got stuck in, was part of the team and did a good job, I'm glad to see him stepping up to the mark. Clarke gave no indication that he knew what he was there for. I've no idea why he is scoring for S****horpe, but he didn't look like he could score for us. As we aren't finding the back of the net with the likes of BWP and Fuller who clearly (IMHO) outclass him, I suggest that our shortage of goals is down to elsewhere on the pitch. Maybe he's getting good service, maybe week in week out he is proving himself a competent league one striker. Yeh, bring him back, but where are the easy games we can risk a run out for him?
  • He couldn't score for us in League one but he could for Scunthorpe and Chesterfield. Writing players off is never the wisest of things. There is a long list of players who have been written off at one club, only to go on to a successful career.

If the much cited tale of him being bad in the dressing room/around the club etc is true then of course it is fair enough that he has been moved out on loan and we should be looking to get rid asap. The fact that he has played for numerous clubs and he is not particularly old does rather suggest that he finds it hard to settle..... to put it mildly.
As we are struggling to score in an ideal world a hungry striker with the right attitude would return from a loan spell with hunger and desire to prove people wrong, I'd like to think (being a person who believes in second chances given the right circumstances) Clarke could do that but if his head is not in the right place then perhaps it's best all round if he moves on.

  • Sensible precaution in case Hulse gets injured too.

That is interesting I suspect we want to maintain his resale value.Mambo on the other hand will be allowed to play for the Wombles.

or we intend to field a weak side in the fa cup.
  • As well as Mambo I understand that Waggy has been refused permission to play for the O's.
  • Scored again last night
  • Scored again !
And he's goal the other day when he took it over the keeper was brilliant!

We maybe losing a gem here ?
  • Of course he shouldn't! He's scored far too many goals!
  • Two today at Coventry. Seems to be enjoying himself.

  • Deserves a chance in the team
  • Let him get Scunthorpe well away from the relegation area (they now have a crowd favorite back as manager) and then we'll have him back
  • SuperKev scored 2 for Orient too.

Let's get him back while he's still young.

    LOL
  • I think Clarke has found his level so he'd be mad to come back to stay on the bench at best. Just hope we can get a fee for him rather than simply saving some (I presume) of his wages til his contract runs out.
  • Was never given a fair run of games for any of us to decide

However if SCP farned him out then he knows best
  • What's his goals per games there now?
