Should Leon Clarke be given another chance at Charlton?

He has now scored 6 goals in 8 games which at any level is impressive. We have literally seen him no more than 3 times which makes me think, have we judged him too soon? Its easy to say hes a league 1 striker and not good enough for the champ but when he played for us it was in league 1 and he was useless which makes me think maybe he just wasnt fit at the time.

I think he should be given another chance providing he comes back with a good attitude and is prepared to wait for his chance. What is everyone elses views on the matter?

  • Its not really us is it? CP does not seem to think he has a future at the club. If CP were to change his mind and bring him back then I am sure MOST of us would give him a chance.

  • No and whether the rumours over his attitude were true or untrue are irrelevant. At League One level for us he simply wasn't good enough. I don't care how well he's doing now I saw the evidence for myself with my own eyes and at Championship level there's no way in the world he'd be good enough.
  • The likes of BWP, Yann and Fuller are more than capable of banging in 6 in 8 when it comes to League One. No matter what sort of form Clarke is in, he doesn't offer anything that those mentioned can already do.
  • Cant really argue with 6 in 8, would say in Kerm and Fuller both out then as a big man striker we would be silly not to try him out for a couple of games. You never know, he could be the next...
  • If we find ourselves in a position like the other week where we had minimal striking options then he should be called back and played. Football (for strikers in particular) is about form and confidence.
Agree he is not going to get in ahead of the current lot but he could of done a job V. Blackburn when we were pushing for that goal in the 2nd half and we had no attackers to turn to.

If CP want's rid, then fair play his attitude seems to be an issue.

Also, would giving Smith a run out here and there be a bad thing?!

  • No... people were saying exactly the same about Benson last year
  • Even when unfit playing for us you could see he had something about him, but he needs to sort his attitude to progress, and some people are unable to - once a tw@t always a tw@t. I'd rather Smith, Piggott & Azeez get a chance.
  • Nope. Not got the pace or poaching instinct of a BWP style striker, Kermorgant, Fuller even Hulse are astronomically better at the 'big guy' role. He only seems to do well if he is The Biggest Fish In The Pond, at Charlton at Champ level he would be the smallest fish of all... by a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way. Sell him before his shitness shines back through.
  • No. Clearly a good player, but needs to be the focus of the team, so he will always suit the big fish small pond option
  • Don't call him back before this weekend. Clarke - Di Canio round two.
  • Out of curiosity, where is all this 'bad attitude' talk coming from? Is it actually based on something going on at Charlton or people just assuming based on what happened with Di Canio at Swindon?

as far as im aware its just from what happened at Swindon
  • He's found his level in League 1 , don't know if he's burned his bridges with Charlton fans though?

  • If CP wanted to keep him he wouldn't be on loan. He won't be back.
  • No need to bring him back and it would never work anyway as he is clearly a confidence player and id imagine he would even gets some boo's from a section of are fans, for whatever imagined slight he has done to them(not being good enough does not count).

  • If he is scoring goals and we have no other options then why not?!?

But seeing we have BWP,Fuller, Kermo, Haynes. Then it's a no.

BWP has scored 1 goal all season, kerm is injured, haynes is always injured, so maybe we could do with him ...

    in what way?

We do have an idiotic percentage of supporters who are too stubborn to accept some players' weaknesses. If Chris Solly bottled a challenge, he wouldn't get any stick or groans. If Danny Green committed the same offence, people would be out of the seats screaming their lungs out at him.
