Should Leon Clarke be given another chance at Charlton?

  • A footballers performance (especially a striker) relies a lot on confidence levels. He clearly lacked that when he played for us, and I don't think it would benefit him as a player by coming back whatever form he is in elsewhere.

I wouldn't shut the door on anyone but him playing for us did not tick the box. Good club to him at Scunthorpe.

    NO NO NO

One of the worst players i've seen in a charlton shirt in the last 42 years

    Mike Small?
    Tom Hovi?
    Mark McCammon?

Bit harsh. We didnt really see him, did we.

PS Agree he is not better than Kermo, Hulse, Fuller, BWP, Haynes etc though.

nope. Age aside, Fuller & Hulse are a step up from BWP and Kermo and those two are at least two steps up from Clarke.

Add to that the fact that CP doesn't fancy him, so leave him where he is and get him off the books asap.

u really think hulse is a step up from kerms? not imo
Well Kermo is injured so he is currently right
    he didnt mean that tho
  • I would rather a player be given a chance to prove himself by being given a consecutive run of games from the start to be able to form an opinion

love Kermo and his passion but I felt he was being bullied by the defenders in the early games this season and I'm not sure that'll happen to Hulse.

No real facts behind it though. Only seen Hulse for 10 mins but he did OK then and he's floated around football at a higher level than Kermo so that sways it for me.
you're saying hulse is better based on 10 mins? and just because he's played at a higher level? I assume u wanted Heskey over Fuller on that basis?
  • Clarke is not an improvement on any of our strikers apart from possibly Smith, so therefore I don't think he can offer much different if he came back.

I think we should keep him on our books but keep loaning him out. You never know in football....
  • Shows it was good to get him playing if it means we get a transfer fee for him.
  • If CP says "yes", I say" yes"; but I doubt there is a place for him in the present line-up so, in that case, lets hope he has done enough to earn us a reasonable fee in the January transfer market
  • Brilliant bit of business then. Sudddenly we've got a striker that people want to buy instead of someone we have to offload for nothing.

  • Heard Coventry & MK Dons have both offered to take him on loan in November in view of buying him for £250k
  • By doesn't his contract run out next summer anyway, so he would be available on a free then?

This in itself would justify the swap with Benson last January, meanwhile Leon plays for potentially his 14th club at only 27.i guess that would be one way of doing the 92.

Yes, we're in make up team/fee mode at the moment
  • Powell has just said he's thinking about it.

    Fuller's obviously buggered.
I wonder what Super Clive's up to?

    Ask Steve Jones
  • At this rate I'd give Barry Endean another chance.
  • Well it's either him, Smith or one of the kids.

    Jesus.
  • With Fuller now potentially out for a while, Powell was asked what were the chances of bringing back in-form striker Leon Clarke from his loan spell at Scunthorpe to boost Charlton’s attacking options.

“It is something I will have to have a look at,” the manager replied after careful consideration.

  • Scores again, despite Scunthorpe being 3-0 down at the time. I make that 7 goals in 9 apps now.
  • No, league one standard.
  • Not good enough I don't think, decent league 1 finisher, championships a different kettle of fish as we have seen

I'd give him another go because at the moment things look less than great in that department, if he can't cut it (which in truth I doubt he would be able to) then he can pop back to League One.

I must admit I'm swaying more to having him back, if we have injuries (which we do) and he keeps scoring, then why not?
  • Exactly, what can we lose?

    Our team spirit.

One of our players said he was a bad egg. Horrendous attitude.

  • Bring him back, why not? 7 goals in 9, goals is something we lack at the moment, esp at home. It's a dead cert for me. Cmon Powell.

I don't care about Leon Clarke, other players etc. All I care about is Charlton and from that point of view Powell should recall him, get him on the pitch and get him to put em in for us instead of Scunthorpe.

Exactly what I'd heard as well from someone who is not a player but who is with the players a lot of the time. So a very definite 'no' from me as well.

  • As he has played so few games, and as I have only seen him a couple of times , and as he is prolific, then NO.
I suspect those who have slated Francis and Wilson are the ones slagging Clarke. Those who know F A - IMHO.
