Just a small question from me...would PE join now (if true) if we were really in the brown smelly stuff? Or on the other hand is he here to deflect if there is trouble? only one way to find out.........................................!!!
  • With no inside knowledge at all, and taking into account the events and rumours of today, I'm assuming the internal power struggle has been resolved. Doesn't mean everything is hunky dory just that someone has tipped the scales in their favour.
  • Anyone picked up on anything new on this ?
  • I just got a reply to my email to Paul. He's rather coy but its clear to see he has a lot of passion for the club.
    I shall continue to probe
  • Feels like something could be turning around? Im not just talking about our performance on the pitch either..

Some good loans at the moment that seem to be sorting out our injury woes whilst providing strength. I think we have a pretty good side now; best defence of the league, a very good strike force and now our midfield looks to be getting... Well... Dench-er.

I think our recent results combined with our support for Powell has given his role some stability, and perhaps cemented him in his role as a fans favourite.

Now this PE news is looking very credible - so obviously at the board level things may indeed be stabilising.

Bring on the next few weeks and long may this new stability continue!

I think the biggest test will be come the Jan transfer window.
  • It'll be two years in January since we were taken over. Not been too bad has it?

    This
  • Careful the red robin, I thought we will be lucky to finish the season in 21st place... :)

I just read this and it peed me off. Excuse my french but he can f**k off as far away from Charlton as he can get he if he has that attitude to managers. Do NOT want a chairman like that.
  • I really don't get the vitriol towards PE over his opinion on the chelsea management situation, its his view on that one club's current situation.

I think he might have to learn about tolerance, over reacting, high expectations and man love before he steps one foot onto CAFC soil.

The fact is that if Elliot comes in and if he is a front for money men who invest into the club with expectations of performance and these expectations are not achieved then it is unlikely that he will be anything other than ruthless.

We may say he should F off, but there will be others representing the owners and each and everyone of them will bask in any success and be ruthless in any failure
  • Ruthless doesn't come into it, because he wouldn't be making any decisions, just fronting them.

    Allelujah to that.

Depends on his brief and job description.

How do you know that when a brief hasnt even been discussed?

Elliott could be trying to impress the powers that be at cafc.
  • Elliot will be Chairman soon

  • The comments re Chelsea attributed to PE scare the life out of me. To me it suggests that he would be a willing hatchet man for TJ. I still believe that TJ wants to get rid of CP and thus I had hoped for a chairman who might have been able to apply the brakes a bit when TJ throws a wobbly and PE's words suggest the exact opposite. IMO, singing up for our Chrissy just got a whole lot more important.

We don't know what TJ wants do we? He could be a Powell fan?

On the face of it CP has one of safest managers jobs in the division at the moment. 3 successive wins, fans that love him, players that respect him, an improving squad, and a recent league winners medal.

You think TJ wants someone to make decisions about the manager on his behalf, do you?

I wouldnt imagine a sane person taking the Chairmanship without some authority and autonomy so if that is the brief I wouldnt expect PE to take the role.

Is sanity a requirement in the boardroom now? Things have changed . . .
  • From the conversation I had with him earlier this year and a subsequent email from him, PE is very much a fan of Chris Powell and knows how important he is to us.

I'd like to think he this counts for something

I heard similar from a Charlton supporting friend, who met PE earlier in the year, he was delighted that Chrissy was doing so well.

Isn't that the point that some are making though ? SCP is doing well so he's safe. To quote PE " football is a results business" Would you want Chris dismissed off the back of a run of results like De Matteo ? That was justified according to PE.

  • Paul Elliott is everywhere on TV and radio at the moment. Perhaps he has a new agent and stories are being planted to drum up business?

Not really comparing apples with apples though is it? Chelsea can afford to go out and get a top manager in for half a season then replace him with an even better one in the summer. If we went on a bad run the decision to sack any manager, let alone CP, has a far greater impact financially on us for example. Leaving aside whether there's a decent replacment available and the huge amount of unhappy fans they'd have on their hands*
