Will someone tell me wtf that free kick against Cort was given for. Jumping to head the ball hasn't yet been added to the list of infringements has it.
No but sumo wrestling on the football pitch is generally frowned upon. I rate Cort highly but he f****ed up royal and it was a freekick for sure, a free kick everyone should have defended much better mind you.
Fair enough. Looked soft to me, but I'll take your word for it.
We were not shit it was not a great performance we were resolute and had good shape
Solly playing left is just wrong it unbalances our play
Stephens and Hollands were off their game but Stephens was there and never hid
BWP missed some good chances
The thing we needed was someone who can look for a pass and find an offensive pass
IMO we didn't need to change and put 3 up we needed the link between defence and midfield If Stephens goes forward its down to Hollands to collect the ball from the defence and drive forward just 10 or 15 yds and then either play the ball into the strikers or out wide or to Stephens
Not collect the ball and play it either to a yellow shirt or the defender who just gave you it
It makes the play wrong and is so predictable that and poor finishing cost us
SCP could see it as he subbed Hollands 20 mins too late if honest virtually a half to late
That's why we lost and will continue not to win until the boy gets his mojo back or is replaced
BWP worked his socks off, was unlucky in both halfs, i felt he was almost playing as a loan frontman as fuller was a complete passenger for the last 60 minutes. wilson - the man is league one at best - certainly not a championship right back. solly - class but out of position. for all those slating kerkar, at least he tried something different, how many times have you seen jacko beat a man on the wing this year? NONE. kerkar at least had them second guessing. his final ball was not quite there but who's was? the centre of midfield was the problem. not once did they even contemplate running past the forwards, backwards/sideways football all night which suited the watford back 6/7
From where I was sitting Wilson had a better game than Kerkar, who was mostly crap.
Well that was a mugging but a strange sort of mugging where the victim provided the mugger the weapon to mug them with. What went wrong? - Well for me it was a combination of things - 1) Watford decided they would crowd the box which meant we had lots of width but had to find outnumbered men and needed inch perfect balls (the solution is another offensive player - that could be a substitute or playing a centre half up front to be a nuisance and extra body) - we didn't react to the opposition's tactics 2) Having said that, there was only one way Watford were going to score in the second half and that was through a set piece. It should be ingrained in defenders heads not to give one away - that may mean going for a ball 95% instead of 100% but you have to ask, what will happen of I lose that header - nothing as opponents were not advanced because they only had 10 men and were playing a negative game- what happens if I give a foul - dangerous free kick and their best chance. We contrived to give three silly free kicks away. The first -which was soft but needless, Hamer picking up when under no pressure and Stephen sliding in when he just had to track the player. That is naive and almost criminal! 3) The free kick itself - I can't understand why teams don't have a player on the line - in 8 Premiership years under Curbs we lost a goal to one Henry free kick (which was brilliant). Surely you do the maths, but football people are crap at maths -it isn't jsut Sir Chris!!!!!! Curb excused of that criticism. It was a good free kick but player had a 30-35% chance of scoring the way we defended- player on the line it would have been 5% tops. 4) Well the ref did miss two blatent pens - Solly being held back and a stangulation on BWP but that was a game to be won against a poor Watford side who did defend herorically but who employed a tactical plan where we didn't have one.
I'm not blaming BWP for the loss, but he is simply not good enough. I quince every time he receives the ball praying he will find a red shirt after his shocker of a first touch and tonight was no different.
Losing at home to an average side with 10 men is worrying. We're almost a quarter of the way through the season and do not yet have a quarter of the points we need to survive. I was relatively calm before tonight but this result has turned me.
And as for Watford, I used to like Zola but his side are a bunch of cheating w*****s, lost all respect for the man.
Thought we played well for most of the game but we just couldnt find the back of the net. BWP had a glorious chance in the second half and made a real arse of it. Watford's tactics were disgraceful
everyone has their own opinion but i just can't see how anyone could say wilson had a good game?! he was definitely better when pushed up to right wing but as a defender i really did whince every time he got the ball as his football brain is just not up to this level. he can't tackle - maybe he can, he's just too scared to....when passing backwards he was fine - forwards is a whole different story. was lucky with a few refereeing decisions which got him out of jail. i'm not into bashing our own players but the man is a real liability in my opinion
Are there any other teams at the moment that anyone can tell me about that have lost through injury their captain ,their talismanic striker and their only real and genuine source of pace in their left back ? While to lose at home against a bottom 6 team of ten men is abysmal how do you cope with those simultaneous loses if you are unwilling / unable to invest ? Thank god that we have got at least two bodies in this week to deal with the problems but we are looking like a side that needs to get a win at home any way at all and to urgently avoid confidence leaking away like a Thames water supply system during a hose pipe ban in place during flash flooding.

Personally, I quite like kerkar, i just don't think he's being used correctly. He's got a trick or 2 which creates space but he seems to like to cross from deep and there lies his problem. He doesn't get the ball over early so we're left with static strikers and no one attacking the ball. I think he'd be better utilised in an attacking cm role.
I think some of us are going a little over the top. The thing is, you don't have to be a bad side to struggle in this league and we are far from a bad side, we just aren't good enough for the top half of this division. Will we struggle at the bottom end of the table? Most probably but I don't think we will go down.
Why take Green off and push wilson up? Green has got a much better final ball and for the last 15 minutes we pumped balls from out wide into the box, Green would have been the obvious choice to stay on. Very strange move
Wilson has more pace - a more useful attacking asset for the last part of the game.
Have to go 4-5-1 on Saturday against Blackburn has been the only time we have controlled a midfield all season. Fuller up top alone and Razak into the midfield.
Hmm, the only consolation is that this is a very unpredictable league, there are no easy games...and no impossible games either.
As for tonight, yes the luck was against us, but we were SO predictable. Hollands and Stephens can't play together in central midfield, as neither have enough energy. I thought Wilson was ok, he has a good engine so why not try him in CM alongside Stephens, move Solly to RB and give Evina a run at LB. With a team that has now lost 4 out of 9 games, it's time to give ALL our players a chance. It was a stupid free kick by Cort, but he's been good this season. Hamer needs to concentrate more on his own game, rather than bollocking everyone else. BWP isn't good in one on ones, Hulse is another option but that would leave us with even less pace up front.
Decent debate chaps. Think @drawnablank and @valleygary comments sum it up pretty fair for me.
One thing that will never change with Charlton though. Whenever you are looking for a.little pick me up in life, this club seems to go out of its way to kick you in the ball cocks.
Wish we'd sold Stephens. I await the, " he's our most skilful playmaker".. Blah blah. He lacks urgency, won't put his foot through the ball when he shoots and loses out to often.
We were better without him last season, we would be this.
Impressed with Wilson today though. Much improved.
What about setting up the goal and never giving the ball away all night? This is a league where you have to play football and keep possession. You can't get away with the hoof ball of last season. More culpable tonight were those who kept pumping aimless crosses into nowhere.
Have to go 4-5-1 on Saturday against Blackburn has been the only time we have controlled a midfield all season. Fuller up top alone and Razak into the midfield.
I was surprised when CP reverted to 4-4-2 tonight after Saturday.
Felt the same in that we controlled the midfield more than in any other game this season.
Unless the midfield is sorted out, then we will be in and around the bottom 5 all season. Last time in the championship, the midfield was never right and the succession of decent strikers didn't get service and didn't score. We didn't promotion and ended up relegated. Get midfield the right and then the decent strikers we have at the club will score.
Brighton fans talk wall of Razak, maybe he will give some solidity at the base of the midfield. Maybe that will free up one of Hollands or Stephens to play a bit further forward. 4 2 1 3 may work. How far off match fitness he is, I am not sure but surely, it has got to be tried.
I am not a fan of playing right backs at left back. It does not help the balance of the team.
Chris Powell is doing his best with an average to weak championship team on scarce resources, we are seeing the lack of strengthening in key areas in midfield particularly and upfront which has been apparent for the last 6 months. But he has also got to learn to make better substitutions which are better timed. If players are not cutting it, or the match changes tactically, then he has got to learn to be able to change the game plan.
With an average team we need a good manager to use the limited resources well and create a balanced team. 1 point against a poor Blackburn team and 0 against the 10 men of Watford is not going to keep us up.
The Blackburn game I thought we deserved 3 points, this game I can't believe we have walked away with 0.
Conceding cheap goals is costing us. Moments of lack of concentration are becoming a bit too consistant.
We were all over them, they played nice stuff at times but in general we were better.
The ref was useless and consistantly useless at that, except for the sending off.
Some of the deliveries we were getting into the box were superb. Regarding the corners today there were two balls by Kerkar which were perfect for someone being aggressive and powerhousing to the back post. No one gambled. Why?
Their right back was awful. He was forcing errors on himself with the most simplest of things, we should have targeted him more.
I thought the build up to chances was good, the inclusion of wingers is making us threatening. However we are not clinical enough infront of goal, the moment when choosing to shoot or play that lay off is not good enough at the moment.
I don't think we were bad, but at home to a poor team and with a man advantage we should not be leaving with nothing.
Solly doing a good job at left back IMO - Wilson was decent tonight - it wasn't so much aimless crosses it was the tactics - Watford said cross as much as you like, we'll defend the box with numbers - we didn't get the numbers in thebox to help the crossers and put the odds in our favour.

Never giving the ball away? Did you spend half the game queuing for a pint?

Blackpool away next, hmm...
Nonsense
