  • Calm down everyone - let's see where we are after 10 games... Ah...

What happened to our defence for their first goal?

Where the feck has BWP left his shooting boots?

How can we dominate a game for so long and come away with nothing?

Why aren't Sky Sports News showing the goals from our game?
  • We're only 9 points off top.
  • First half we looked useful considering the conditions. Second half, what were they thinking? We looked like we were the ones down to 10 men. Watford were only an ok team, didn't deserve to win. A draw would have been fair.

That guys dive was shocking and he deserved to go. Although i think Green was lucky to not follow him with his late tackle, but it was only one footed, but seen people sent off for less.

I really hope they pull things together and soon or they are gonna start losing fans. Not many boo's at the end which i am pleased about because they don't help anyone. Needs to use subs more wisely.

Stephens looked good and Fuller does still look a great catch. We just didn't look anything like the team on Saturday.

  • Pritchard being brought on was the wrong choice for me. Razak needed to come on, the game was crying out for a player like him.

  • So SHG, would you disagree that with a little bit of luck, we could have won on Saturday, and we could have won tonight (having had all the play 2nd half) ?

Of course, you are right to a certain extent. You keep getting points get away from you, like tonight, Saturday, at Birmingham etc then of course you are going to wind up in trouble. But sometimes you ahve spells when things just don't go for you and just need either a bit of tweaking or a bit of perseverance.

That's where i think we are.

Wouldnt say he has been inept he has done well in other games just needs to take the chances when they come his way cos that is w
  • Didn't think we played that badly. final ball wasn't great but we did make a good number of chances and they got in a huge number of blocks so it did look like we didn't trouble the keeper much. i did feel we played into there hands by not staying on our feet infront of our own box. the ref was blowing for everything. yet we kept sliding in on challenges. i believe i saw enough over the last two games not to panic.
  • Pritchard being brought on was the wrong choice for me. Razak needed to come on, the game was crying out for a player like him.

    In what sense ?

Never seen him play so i don't know. What i do know is Pritchard come on on Saturday and really gave us some impetus and legs in the final third for the last 20.

So is Razak an attacking player ? I got the impression he is a sitter ?

  • Will someone tell me wtf that free kick against Cort was given for.
Jumping to head the ball hasn't yet been added to the list of infringements has it.
  • Well I thought we played well enough to win it! Good possession & passing but no final product. They.had only 2 set piece goals and no other real chances! Feel bit cheated as we were dominant at times...Watford did not deserve it one bit.

  • Until SCP learns when to put subs on we are in trouble I love the bloke but he doesn't know how to change a game when things are going wrong.
  • Ordinary side, with 11 men they were the better side comfortable on the ball. We only pushed on when they went down to 10 men.
  • Our wall was clearly pushed over by the three in the middle, you could clearly see they were going to aim at the players who would duck. Why we didn't move the wall over to be behind there players is beyond me
  • NLA sums it up for me. Two things lacking tonight was composure and that final ball. Far too many crosses lofted crosses from deep positions.

This. I don't mind a crossing game but you should be getting in behind the defence and cutting crosses back (especially in gaps against 10 men). crosses from deep aimed at static strikers are almost impossible to keep over and get enough power in the header. It's worrying that this was continually our approach.

If you get lucky in any game you can win. That wasn't the case this evening because you ought to create enough chances against an average team that played with ten men for an hour without Lady Luck having to put in an appearance. You make your own luck but the truth is we were void of any creativity or energy and that's why we lost. We were simply not good enough and it's been like that in more than the Watford game. Make no mistake we are in bother. We look one paced and predictable.

  • Don't think it's wrist slitting time but concerned that we aren't creating decent chances

BWP will inevitably get stick but the guy us there to put away chances in the box and when you have the likes of green and kerkar spraying crosses into various parts of South London I'm not sure what he is supposed to do

Midfield is a weak area that we have known since day one but I really dont see the point of having razak on the bench if he isn't worth a punt for 10 minutes
Slightly concerned as from what I have seen this season only 4/5 players look up to playing at this level on a regular basis, it's gonna be a long season
  • Bwp's chance 2nd half he should of put it away easier to score then miss needs to be more clinical. Only positive from tonight is fuller he is class will score plenty of goals for us no doubt.
  • Dan, I wasn't at the match and there seems to be a different view for each post. Could we ask Tutt Tutt to do an analysis of each match as a feature to give us a balanced perspective?
  • Again I didn't think we were that bad, but were let down with finishing. Udinese had everyone back in the second half and were very physical. I think we definitely missed Kermorgant there as he's better able to deal with that. I was surprised more of them weren't sent off. The number 18 was tackled by Wilson (who is improving every match) and then feigned that he'd stamped on him. He should have been off for that, I thought it was a good call by the ref to send off Tom Daly (no 41) but he seemed to stop giving us any 50/50 decisions after that. And hoofing in crosses to a box full of big yellow shirts didn't help.
We can carry on being OK defensively but if we don't score any goals we will be in trouble this season.
  • Piled on the pressure but we were absolutely useless anywhere near the box.

Praise our defence all you like but we would never have kept a clean sheet if we were under similar pressure.

BWP was hopeless and his positioning was very poor. Hollands absolutely abysmal. He has a backwards mentality and hope he learns from the backpass to Hamer. Sums the man up.

Best player was Wilson by some margin.

Watford look a bottom six team to me which is a worry.

  • @SHG

I'll give you the one paced and predictable bit, fair comment.

The rest is a bit dramatised for me though (at this stage).

In the back to back Sheffield games last season we played two even contests (probably on the backfoot in the United one), yet come away with 6 points from two free kicks. That's where i talk about small margins and a bit of luck influencing results.
  • Slightly hysterical from one or two on here. The finishing wasn't great, to put it mildly, but we could easily have won that. I don't agree that we were being outplayed when it was eleven v eleven.
21st place is still a possibility, everyone!

Jumping to head the ball hasn't yet been added to the list of infringements has it.

Cort decided to give Deeney a big hug when heading the ball. Blatant foul and about as dumb a free kick to give away as you will ever see.

No but sumo wrestling on the football pitch is generally frowned upon. I rate Cort highly but he f****ed up royal and it was a freekick for sure, a free kick everyone should have defended much better mind you.

Wow. It really doesn't tell the story at all.

  • Why take Green off and push wilson up? Green has got a much better final ball and for the last 15 minutes we pumped balls from out wide into the box, Green would have been the obvious choice to stay on. Very strange move
  • BWP worked his socks off, was unlucky in both halfs, i felt he was almost playing as a loan frontman as fuller was a complete passenger for the last 60 minutes. wilson - the man is league one at best - certainly not a championship right back. solly - class but out of position. for all those slating kerkar, at least he tried something different, how many times have you seen jacko beat a man on the wing this year? NONE. kerkar at least had them second guessing. his final ball was not quite there but who's was? the centre of midfield was the problem. not once did they even contemplate running past the forwards, backwards/sideways football all night which suited the watford back 6/7

I suppose your right, I didn't go to Blackburn due to other commitments so that's probably ignorance on my part.

However, I did feel that Pritchard was presented with a few half-chances and didn't seem to want to take them, I just thought someone with a different idea would help change the game. Pritchard did add fresh legs, but doesn't seem to have that spark....that's what we lack IMO.

Lets be fair, Watford were a disgrace and if Charlton ever played like that I would be embarrassed. Our goal was a brilliant piece of football.

I think that now we have a few new players in we need to see Saturday as the new season. CP needs to re think his best eleven and that may mean mr Nice Guy being nasty to a few of the heros from last season.

I don't think that tonights performance was half as bad as some here have said, but there was a clear lack of an effective plan B when the crossing was failing to result on clear chances on goal. They packed their defence and made it difficult to get through with simple crosses, we needed to havemore imagination and change things around a bit, either someone on the field should have taken that responsibility or the manager from the sidelines.

I saw enough today to persuade me that we can get out of this mire but it has to start from Saturday.
  • Almunia made the save from bwp, the one from fuller with his legs, he tipped the one out from under the bar at the end, Stephens put over and so did bwp when he should have gone down.

    There lies the problem.

Watford were fuckin awful but that one chance they had they had the class to take it.

We went 3-4-3 and I don't really know what else people would liked Powell to do.

Razak has been at the club 10 minutes and is a holding midfielder so how anyone can think he's a game changer I'll never know, unless they watch alot of man city reserve games.

Tonight is what's known in football as one of those nights. We were worse in probably 4/5 other games than we were tonight.

The first 10 mins after half time we had Watford against the ropes and was making them work hard and we was pressing, that's why CP didn't change it. I, like he, felt the goal was gonna come.

Gonna be a very long season but we have to make sure we don't get too disheartened.

It's tough when we lose in games like tonight but I still think we are good enough to stay up.
