Wilson was purchased as cover for right back, why are you comparing him to Green & Wagstaff??
Don't see this. Yes he is cover at RB but my understanding is that he played most of his games at RM and certainly did so against us. In fact he reminds me in style of Stephen Hunt.
Effectively making your home debut off the bench is never easy (ignoring previous 10 minute cameos), Evina struggled last season when he had to come in for Solly at very short notice.
I hope that Friday was not typical of what we should expect from Wilson. I honestly don't understand the people saying he was one of the few good players out there. What game were they watching? He gave the ball away at the drop of a hat and his decision making was awful. He showed a little attacking flair later in the game but overall I was far from impressed.
BUT
It was his home debut in a highly charged local derby, playing in a position which we have become used to being one of our strengths. I'm not going to write him off for that!
I thought Wilson did ok defensively on Friday. Palace seemd to have far fewer chances after he came on compared to the first 10 minutes or so when Zaha seemed to be going past Wiggins at will. Obviously Solly replaced Wiggins at left back but Zaha and Bolasie kept changing sides. Wouldnt be worried if he played again but obviously need to start with a proper left back.
if anyone deserved the nonsensical abuse that a few on here dished out to Wilson, it was Pritchard - thought he was rubbish - offered nothing going forward & was swatted away like a pesky fly by the Palarse midfield every time - way out of his depth based on what I have seen of him so far - BUT - I really hope he improves & gets up to speed.....
Pritchard and Jackson were much worse than Wilson.
Ridiculous I have already heard criticism from 'fans' about Wilson. He's a right winger. All his recent success has been on the right wing. He last played right back in the conference, and thye switched him to right wing then with Ronnie Henry playing behind him. We spend £400k on a player then play him in a new position. What's the point of that? And then he gets criticised. I would play him as a right winger, as I have a hunch he could be a better right winger for us than Green & Waggy. Waggy can play on the left. Haynes can play up front, Pritchard is a central midfielder.
It's hardly Wilson's 'fault' that he cost whatever was paid for him. IMO he played quite well in a difficult situation and (apart from ONE wayward shot) set up a number of opportunities with well-delivered crosses. It seems that some have already decided that we need a 'boo-boy' as last year we were too successful to select one. As has been said on this boards so many times, the idea that slagging off a player will improve his performance is a bit odd to say the least.
I don't know what game some people were watching ?? I thought Wilson was one of our better players & his delivery of the ball from the right was excellent. He had no protection in front of him & will face fewer tricker wingers this season. He was thrown in at the deep end & IMHO did very well !

this
I just think some people make their mind up about a player before they even see him play and their view is tainted accordingly. I've already said to those people who think he had a bad game to look at the footage again and they will see that he was responsible for delivering four or five of the crosses that lead to our chances - and that includes the "pull back" to Fuller who failed to hit the target when he really should have scored.
Thought Wilson was one of our best players on Friday apart from his aberration in the last minute. There should be a few in front of him in the scapegoat queue!

Opinion seems to have shifted quite a lot since the match. I reckon most people have had time to calm down after losing to Palace and look at it a bit more objectively which is nice to see
I thought he did very well IMO. He got forward the whole time he came on and made overlapping runs on the right to give us a drive down that flank that we badly needed (was even better when Green came on). I thought he did O.K defensively as well considering he was up against Zaha and did enough to stop him from being a major threat. The only big criticism I have of him is that shot at the end when we had a 4 on 3 going forward but he just lashed it over!!!!!!! Other than that he was good.
Does my heart good the way this thread has changed - what began as a negative bit of unpleasantness has turned into a proper demonstration of support. Good to read, thank-you.

He was ok v Palace. Not a solly but not many people are. Had little or no help from Pritchard who had a stinker.
Get off his back and give him a few games to settle and then judge him.
Some of our "fans" really are muppets
