  • Pritch got badly outmuscled at times last night. I was very impressed with him last season though and by all accounts he was very good vs brum and leicester. It's asking a lot for him to dominate games given his experience at this level.

I seriously think we need to consider going 4-5-1 for at least a few games to try and bef up the midfield a bit. It'd probably mean dropping Yann and BWP for Fuller but I think we have the midfielders and wingers to potentially make it work.

Putting The British Expeditionry Force into our midfield would certainly give us a numerical advantage. ;0)

if anyone deserved the nonsensical abuse that a few on here dished out to Wilson, it was Pritchard - thought he was rubbish - offered nothing going forward & was swatted away like a pesky fly by the Palarse midfield every time - way out of his depth based on what I have seen of him so far - BUT - I really hope he improves & gets up to speed.....

Pritchard and Jackson were much worse than Wilson.
    Agree tbh.

I agree with this as well, Wiggins got off to a shakey start in his career with us and look at him now.
    Yes bloody injured ;-)
  • The answer is to give Lawrie loads of abuse, thus improving his confidence and turning him into a great player.
  • Wilson played ok, JJ didnt, BP didnt, Yann didnt.

He was embarrassing in defence yesterday but decent going forward. I must say though if he was Next to me when he took that shot with the last kick of the game I would have given him a slap.

I assume you would also want to give a slap to Stephens who had a shot when BWP was open in front of goal?

+1 Glad someone else noticed it. The defense was split apart and BWP would have been clean through on goal. Stephens had loads of time yet chose to run a bit further forwards and then shoot speculatively. It was beyond woeful yet many are marking him up as our best player on the nite. LOL

  • I think its officially been decided by a lot of our fans to make Wilson the scapegoat.this season. If he has any confidence left theyll soon rid him of it.
  • Yeah ur right I just can't get enough of going on the Internet and picking on one player!!!

FFS it's an opinion. Deal with it.
  • Same people who were telling us Wiggins was shit this time last year probably.

Unfortunately people don't get given a run out before a judgement is made, if he's having a mare after 3 or 4 games fair enough but to slate him after a game is ridiculous IMO.

Still, that's the Charlton way I suppose.
  • Thought Wilson had a decent enough game.

Pritchard and Jackson are, for different reasons, out of their depth in my opinion.

Still think CM is unbalanced. Would like to see a more holding type player alongside Hollands allowing Danny to get forward more.

At last, some people talking sense. I was wondering whether I was getting different pictures beamed over to me in canada when reading some of the messages about Wilson; now that fellow Canadian Oakster agrees with me then I feel more confident I was watching the same game. Apart from the awful shot at the end, Wilson was one of the better players in a red shirt. Pritchard looked totally out of depth.

  • Agree about JJ but feel guilty saying it for some reason.
  • Dont worry Wilson will get left alone once waggy's back!......
  • Blimey, had forgotten about Waggy !!
  • i think stephens saw another bury moment, unfortunatley it didnt sit up for him and he was at a strange angle. Thought he was indeed our best player friday night, was very composed on the ball and was the only player comfortable passing the ball around, dont get the criticism he gets on here tbh.

Wilson was okay, a decent performance for his first(ish) league start for us (he came on after 15 so it might as well be a start).

    Well there's a surprise.
  • all I can say is it's a good job all the sky fans didn't see him against Orient! OTT on Friday's performance, there were at least 4 players worse/more ineffective than him on Friday night.
  • wilson against orient was a bit embarrassing for him to say the least
  • So, who is this season's scapegoat going to be?

Against Forest it was Jordan Cook, against Palace it was Lawrie Wilson.

Could one of them be the new Kish/Leaburn/Grant/Francis etc.

It seems to be part of the Charlton way for some unknown reason. There's always someone.

Why can't we just support our players?

Giving the same allowance to my nomination as others have given Wilson: step forward Jimmy Floyd Fuller.

Thought he was alright on Friday, certainly not as bad as some are making out. Looks solid, gd delivery, decent defensively though obviously not amazing all round.

Probably a confidence thing too, cant imagine what its like coming up from L1 to play in a massive derby game in front of probably his biggest crowd against a quality player like Zaha.

There were certainly worse players on the day

  • JJ is sadly looking a bit like a boxer who is out on his feet and doesn't want to acknowledge it. His legs don't appear up to the pace at the moment.

I know his goals were important but he's not getting in to position to get the goals now.

I think a rest is in order - we've got cook, kerkar, or even Evina or harriott can play there
  • I don't know what game some people were watching ?? I thought Wilson was one of our better players & his delivery of the ball from the right was excellent. He had no protection in front of him & will face fewer tricker wingers this season. He was thrown in at the deep end & IMHO did very well !
  • I wish people would give Wilson a chance, he was superb last season for Stevenage and whilst this is a step up in class, he looked really dangerous going forward on friday. The big problem was in midfield where Jackson looked too slow, Pritchard, out of his depth and Hollands all over the place. The only midfielder to shine was the excellent Stephens. I agree that CP should give Wilson the right midfield role and I would also find a place for Wagstaff, Cook or Green, we desperately need width. Whilst we might have got a point on friday, we were not worth any more. It is early days yet but it is clear that an injection of pace is needed. The defence and goalkeeper looked ok and I agree that Evina must have his chance, no point in having a reserve left back if he dosen't come in when the first choice is injured.
  • funny, against nottingham forest chris solly was exposed due to shit midfield. against palace wilson is just plain shit. a bit of victimisation here me thinks.
  • Wilson wasn't at fault for the atrocious marking at the corner which led to the goal
  • Wilson did ok and was part of only a few chances we created.

Totally agree. Get off the fella's back. He could be a great Charlton asset in a very thin squad, given half a chance.
  • Don't see Wilson as a championship player, don't see him as much of a player at all sadly. Hope I'm proved wrong. He's only this far up the pecking order cos Green and Wagstaff are unable/unwilling to play properly for anything like 90 minutes. Wilson's appearances so far, including pre-season, have been worrying, hence SCP's no option choice of Pritchard
  • Strange comment, CP has always made it plain from what i've read that he bought Wilson as a RB
  • Wilson was purchased as cover for right back, why are you comparing him to Green & Wagstaff??
