Have been reading this thread since it began and it all seems very depressing,it seems an age ago that we were all celebrating together at The Valley, watching the trophy being lifted, the excitement of it all,the new kit deal with Nike and the whole 'feelgood' factor that seemed to be running through the club. How can it all have changed so much in such a short space of time? I just hope that the powers that be who are in charge of our beloved club can either sort out their differences or sort out new funding and for our sake lets hope they do it soon.
Someone on the into the valley forum is saying Gordon smith is in talks to become our director of football - any truth in this and would it be good or bad news ?
Is this the Gordon Smith who left Rangers when they went into Administration ?

Michael Slater clearly said on takeover day that 'Our plan for Charlton is to run the club on a sensible financial footing' and said almost the same lately, so there is nothing to be worried about!

You're sure about that?
And are you sure about these rumours that is circulating on this fourm? Are you sure we are in financial trouble?
The fact is, if it won’t for the new owners we would not have been celebrating promotion this year and I would not have been surprised if we entered administration, close to relegation to League two, made reductions around the club and our key players would have been Alan Macormack and Paul Benson. Surely we can appreciate that the new owners saved us from going further tough times following from we what we had to put up with the last few years.
Based on the success last season, until the club offically comes out and says we are in trouble I will continue to trust what Slater has to say and move on.

Good point. And while we're at it all these attention seekers claiming that the world isn't flat should give it a rest as well.
It is IMHO very clear that the money behind the club has gone... So while PR men tell everyone to be calm I personally will start to panic.... As it stands it is clear we don't have any money and unless money is found we will be looking at administration strategies...

Finding money / selling up to new owners with more money before the trouble hits would surely be the first strategy. Can't understand why we would dive in to administration.

Disco I was sceptical at first and was hoping it was mountains out of molehills but unfortunately the people that have posted inside info don't seem to be the type who would do it unless we were facing such dire straits.
Dont know most of them but would pay more credence to what they say about Charlton than any official lines currently being spun.
From what I've heard which ties in with everything the unconnected sources on here and elsewhere have posted there's little reason to doubt the credibility of the rumours.
Would personally rather be aware of the facts than be kept in the dark only finding out when it suits the parties involved or when it becomes public info in the papers.

But what evidence have you got to suggest this might be the case? Apart from tell stories from certain members on this fourm.

That's fair enough Rodders but it still does not tie in what has happend recently at the club. We invested in new staff and are 'apparently' close to signing Wilson from Stevenage. If we are in trouble, surely we should not be doing this at the club, given that Michael Slater and Jimmez have heavily been involved in successful companies previously? It just makes absolute no sense to me whatsoever.
It's not just on this occassion that this forum has been circulating rumours. I remember on takeover day, a few had mentioned that Jimenez and Slater are front men for some consortium from the Middle East. No evidence has so far suggested to back this one up and we have no evidence to back this problem up ethier.
Disco a bit of research on publicly- available websites will show that some have also been involved in 17 dissolved companies in recent years.
I understand your scepticism and hope you are right but to me it is completely illogical for certain posters to have posted what they have based on mere rumours.
It may all get resolved in the next few days/ weeks leaving those of us outside the loop none the wiser or it may go tits up and we'll all know what's been going on but I just have a gut instinct that the vast majority of what has been reported on here is not very far from fact unfortunatley.
In all fairness to Jimenez (can't believe I am saying that), but most of his vehicles have been real estate orientated start-ups, so when the vehicle sells the property (which is likely to be its only asset), the company gets liquidated so the proceeds can be released in a more tax efficient manner. That might be why everything he has touched has ended up off the register.
To be fair, there is lot's of speculation about TJ but it could just be a case of KC simply having enough. There was lots of talk about us being viable in the Championship from the new owners when they took over and maybe they told KC the same -in that case, if he then learns that we will still lose about the same amount of money he could be miffed. But we can only speculate and maybe we shouldn't speculate too much. It is frustrating because we are worried and want to know what is going on. He is a legend and has been so important to this club and fans but admittedly, some of Airman's comments have fanned the flames.
There is talk of Wilson signing, surely things can't be so dire if that is the case!
How depressing is this? Just when things look to be finally improving after years of misery. Sadly, I'm not surprised and I had my concerns from the outset when it was rumoured that our backer's fortunes were built on the back of a booming property market, with one heavily exposed to the Spanish property market. If such exposure was heavily levered, a sudden and sharp decline in property value's would have a huge impact on their personal wealth. Perhaps this is the real reason behind our financier's decision to pull the plug, rather than some personality clash or sudden loss of interest. I feel really sorry for Richard Murray to have to be going through turmoil yet again after his recent health issues.
