  • Watched 4 episodes of The Serpent. Best BBC drama since the Bodyguard imo. Plus Jenna Coleman is delicious in it.
Only watched the first, but looks very promising.

Travelling in the 70s looked incredible, either the hippy trail or air travel. Makes travel today look so sterile.

Yep, agree with all that, having just watched the first on iPlayer. Beautifully re-created 70s scenes.
  • Been watching The Serpent also, thought it may be a bit style over substance but it’s been gripping at points also. Very good TV.

    As for Jenna, beautiful.

Finally finished Schitt's Creek. That has to be as good as a 6 season sitcom gets, it started off great, got better and ended perfectly. So many characters all of which you actually care about and genuinely funny

I was so sad when it was over. I’m watching again from the start next week when I’m off work.

Just restarted it for the 3rd time. It's brilliant!
You guys need to help me out here. I watched the first episode yesterday, is that an indication of the rest of it? As I was severe scratching my head at the end in thinking how can anyone have found anything to rave about with this pile of poop!

I with you on that Barts. So many people had recommended it to me knowing my liking for character based stuff like Seinfeld, Frasier, Curb even more recent stuff like The Big Bang Theory, etc. We gave it 5, maybe 6, episodes to try and get into the characters and just couldn't. Wasn't doing it for us at all.

I've recommended it before but if you're a grumpy old misanthrope like me I'd suggest trying Loudermilk (but not one to watch with any kids about). Again needs a couple of episodes to get into but the characters and "non-PC 'ness" in his therapy group cracked me up.

Community is silly but quite good fun, but clearly jumps the shark to the extent they even start referencing the dip in quality within their own show.
  • The Serpent.
Me & Mrs Charlton Road finished it last night after a 3 night binge. Really excellent TV, if you’ve only seen one episode & aren’t sure all I can say is stick with it but obviously if it’s not your thing then fair enough. It’s the first series we’ve seen for a while that when you finish an episode you can’t wait to watch the next. Really nicely shot & some excellent actors.

TV shows are like Marmite, some you love and some you hate. I have started watching plenty of shows based on tips from this thread only to get 1 or 2 episodes in and think "what a load of shit"

Each to their own but buyer beware when following a tip.

I've watched it all the way through and didn't like it as much as others (I wouldn't watch it a second time). Like you, I really hated it at first and only continued because it had had so many positive reviews and awards. It definately improves from about mid way through the first series as the awful charaters become more well-rounded and start to learn from their experience. It ends up being genunely heart warming with some really good moments. For me, it's a solid 8/10

I'm on  series 4 and have enjoyed it to date. I have to say though that now David is in a serious relationship, it's lost some edge. I liked his angst ridden sarcasm and now he's gone soft and I feel its a bit heavy on the box ticking gay relationship angle. Will stick with it though, as it's a light relief from most of the murder driven dramas.

Just finished S2 of Succession which really grew on me and looking forward to S3. Just started Tin Star now - good so far after 3 episodes.

The Jeff and Susie marriage in 'Curb' is very well observed. I think we've all known guys with wives like Susie and thanked out lucky stars it wasn't us who drew that particularly short straw.
  • Bridgeton, great fun, Gossip Girls meet period drama.

I loved Tin Star. I agree that we all have different taste and it might not be everyone's cup of tea but I thought the new Tin Star was the best of the series.

Just had the exact same comment from a lad at work. The first episode isn't great, but I don't think pilots ever are as good as the rest of a series.

Give it til ep3, then see if your opinion changes.
  • The Serpent

Just finished ep 6, cant remember last time i saw a series as good and gripping as this.

I first watched part of an episode halfway through season 1 and didn't like it. Then wifey persuaded me to watch from the start and even then I wasn't too sure at first but once you get to know the characters you really warm to them all and the whole thing just gels really well.

So much of it depends on knowing the characters that I don't think anyone could really judge it from a single episode

Yeah, just finished it now. Great dramatised true story. A must watch.
  • Does The Serpent liven up as it goes on, just watched episode one and was under whelmed after reading the some of the comments above.
  • Rattled through series 3 of Cobra Kai.

I can't put my finger on why this should be shit but is bloody excellent??

Its ridiculous... Child Gangs effectively going round beating the shit out of each other

and the police are never anywhere to be found!!

Was beginning to worry no one else would bother with it seeing its not had another mention on this thread as yet

    Yes, most definitely.

Stick with it - just finished the series and thought it was really good.
  • Gave up on succession quite quickly. May go back and watch again.

    Enjoying Tinstar Liverpool.

Enjoying the Serpent, Bridgetown and tonight started The Great. Might need to finish Bridgetown before carrying on with The Great.

Haven’t managed to re watch schitts creek yet but will do it soon. I didn’t ‘get’ it at first, and didn’t like any of them and now I can’t work out who is my favourite as I love them all!
  • Anyone watching A Teacher on BBC2 about a female teacher who has an illicit affair with a Student?

Based in America but enjoyed the first four 25 minute episodes. 10 episodes in all finishes on Thursday.

Did the same with succession, but I did go back and pleased I did as loved it

Succession is worth sticking with. S2 is up there with the very best series'.
  • For me Succession is the best show of the last few years but I loved it right from the start. All of the characters are horrible and there is not really anyone to root for which puts some people off.

Can't recommend Succession enough. I love the characters and storyline, even the repeating piano score is superb.

My missus loved it but not my kind of thing at all. Seemed the script consisted of mainly people dancing at a ball or shagging
  • PWR, in case anyone’s already posted?

This isn’t new but just watched, Satan and Adam on Netflix. If you like music documentaries and in particular the blues, it’s a good watch and heartwarming.
