@bolloxbolder glad to hear about Caliphate. My own search for Euro gems in the Netflix library has so far yielded stuff that’s generally below the level of the Scandi stuff or Spiral.
currently, for example, I’m ploughing through Marseille, starring Gerard Depardieu as the Mayor, standing for re-elečtion against his young protege who has turned on him. In its favour are loving depictions of the city, always bathed in sunshine, and depictions of industrial levels of casual shagging among the politicos, which I am starting to think is a running gag to lighten the proceedings. The trouble is the plot doesnt so much stretch credibility as suspend it completely. But it is strangely compelling.
Finished DEVS. I really enjoyed it. Visually very impressive. The sound mix was all over the place though. Often found myself turning volume up for dialogue......only to have to scramble for the remove later during a period of ear shattering sound effects.

I enjoyed both series of Marseille. Like you I have waded through loads of series. Caliphate was outstanding hence the recommendation. Some I have seen which were imo worth watching in the following order are La Mante - French Border Town Nobel Borderliner
Let me know if you enjoy any of the above. Just finishing the Trial. Wouldn't recommend. Very rarely do I like Italian stuff. Always look for French stuff and then nordic noir.

Thanks, mate. There is a second series of Marseille? I had not noticed that. Border Town, or Borderliner, which of those two is the Finnish one, featuring the cop who has moved up from Helsinki? Well, I tried it but I gave up because I found it too relentlessly grim. You know like in The Bridge, Saga's slightly autistic personality gives a bit of scope for the odd smile.
On Netflix, I could recommend to you "1983". It's Polish and described as "alt.historical", and has an Orwellian feel and theme to it. Features the young Polish actress who was in the BBC series "World on Fire"
Thought Devs was entertaining, but the characters and story were clichéd in the extreme and the denouement was tosh. Great performances from Offerman (as always) and Alison Pill (properly weird - her facial features all being pulled to within about an inch of each other gives her a 'weird' looking face that gives her an 'other worldly' look). Thought the main character's acting was awful though. Absolutely beautifully shot - suspect it was pretty low budget in comparison to, say, an HBO or Netflix show but it looked gorgeous.
Started season 6 of Bosch (there's never been better casting of a literary character than Titus Welliver in the title role) and loving it again, only two episodes in.
Probably a year or so old now, but 'a very English Scandal' with Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw retelling the Jeremy Thorpe affair was outstanding.
Some of the support cast, with the likes of Patricia Hodge, Adrian Scarborough and Jason Watkins are excellent, and it was amazing to think that such a tale existed in British Politics less than fifty years ago.
Will never quite see Hugh Grant in the same light again, and the recreation of Britain from the 60's to the 70's was beautifully done, including the old red London double-deckers that I used to go to school on every day!
University Challenge .. anti-climax final .. Imperial College London absolutely walked it .. a very talented team average age 23 .. Brandon who had been their star until the final was overshadowed by the Captain, a brilliant young man from Lewisham .. this competition is always very inspiring and shows that there are a lot of extremely knowledgeable and talented young people in the UK (and overseas)

Spot on. Thought it would be much closer with the 2 main players being Brandon and Wang. Great series as ever.
Blasted my way through the first two parts of Money Heist the last week or so. Brilliant, absolutely bloody brilliant!!! Doubt I’ll be watching much else but parts 3 and 4 for the next week now.
Anyone watching the new ‘celebrity’ SAS thing? Will be some fireworks with Bellew and Fashanu I reckon.
Just watching it now. Love this show. Expect more from Katie Price. Loving the scene where they are trying to work out who the hell the celebrities are

Really hope it doesn’t turn into the Katie Price show, she really got on my nerves and is definitely playing some sort of game for whatever reason. The clip for next week shows Fashanu seemingly annoying some of the others. Have a feeling shit’s going to get real next week.

She's been through loads (didn't know quite how much!) But seems like she's being bullied, but then again it's being edited. Bellew is a scary guy, a loose cannon. Soon see what they are really made of. Reckon the Paralympian will be there at the end

The ex-Special Forces lads will be acting with integrity because it’s their brand on the line but I’m pretty certain that there’ll have been discussions with producers prior to shooting about entertaining the viewers. Katie Price is a shrewd and experienced player of the reality TV game, not some naive young starlet so she’ll know what she wants out of her appearance.
Totally agree about Bellew. I’ve met some scary blokes in my time and he would definitely worry me if I encountered. Hope he can put some demons to rest through this show because he certainly needs to for his own sake.

Agree. Tony bellew seems like a nice guy but he has his demons that he can fight with his boxing... Ant had them too, this show seems his redemption... I'm sure you've seen it all before in your time, what can give alpha, angry males the outlet?

Lennie James is bloody brilliant
Unsure after the first but liking it more after tonight's second.

Only two of ten episodes released so far.

Going to do The Outsider next.
