Not sure if smudge will deem this worthy of a sticky or not. My dad who is the Operations Director for Charlton has asked me to post a message on Charltonlife regarding Carlisle away and the last game of the season. The FA in their wisdom have written to the club already regarding the pitch invasion at Carlisle demanding action be taken against our fans who went on the pitch celebrating promotion. Needless to say he is not going to as it is ridiculous in the extreme, however they are probably going to fine the club anyway. This does though take me to the final game of the season where there will likely be a sellout crowd we hope in a party atmostphere there to see our heroes crowned as champions. Unfortunately any encroachment on to the pitch after the game will result in No presentation on the pitch, instead we will have to look through at the players behind one of the windows locked away from us in the west stand. I am and Charlton are appealing to our fans to not under any circumstances invade the pitch on the last game of the season, it is likely we will be fined by the FA and a pitch side presentation of the Trophy should we win it would then not take place which would be a real shame as I think it would be a fitting end to the season seeing them on a custom built stand spraying champagne & jumping up and down in front of a full house.

Sometimes you have to wonder about the mentality of the people who run the game we love.
  • Well said, Ketman.

Please let's not spoil the day for all concerned . It means SO much to everyone connected to the Club and we must respect this request .

I believe that the players and most of all, SCP himself would be totally gutted if a few spoiled it for the rest of us. We owe it to them all to ensure that the end of a special season is honoured in a truly special way.

    You know it makes sense.

I think it is a terrible shame that all football fans get treated as hooligans, even when it is patently obvious that they are just looking to celebrate and not spoiling for a fight. If I hadn't been so elated at Carlisle, I could have got quite angry about the way the police and stewards (but particularly police) behaved. And instead of the FA trying to encourage the better side of the game, they just perpetuate things.

A pity you have had to post this, Ketters, but I hope it is respected so that players and fans alike can enjoy the last game and celebrations properly.

Perhaps one day the football authorities will remember what the true spirit of the game is all about and try encouraging it instead of stamping on any signs of genuine and non-threatening exuberance.

Whether you agree or not it would be nice if everyone could comply with this but I expect that some moron will still want their 30 seconds of fame and spoil it for the rest despite the warnings.

    Bummer.

Fair enough, I hope and pray that people don't think they've got a sense of entitlement to ruin the presentation

Unbelievable - not Charlton's request for the last game, but that the FA actually want to punish the fans / club for what happened at Carlisle. Spare of the moment outpouring of happiness ffs. You wonder what football is coming too.
Be interested to know if the fine happens or not and whether the same has applied to every other club who has ever done the same.

What happened at the Ipswich game in 2000? If there wasn't a pitch invasion that day, I'd be surprised if anyone did it this time (if we manage to clinch the title).

Three weeks will have passed since the Carlisle game and this initial elation will have cooled off a bit.

As for the FA - No surprise there.

Compared to the last pitch invasion I saw which was ironically our last away game in the Championship at Derby... That was nothing. There were relatively few of us and it was an emotional reach out towards the players, who were happy to oblige. Derby that day had thousands on the pitch, many of whom headed straight for us to throw taunts. They'd also achieved nothing.

Understood though, it wouldn't feel right doing it at The Valley either.

I suspect they'll be 100's of stewards around the pitch in the last 10 minutes.

Utterly beyond belief. But then, look at Ashley Young, refereeing decisions etc etc, Walcott in squad (unused) instead of Bent etc etc.... Utter bunch of f***wits.

That was a one-off - would happen with any team. Let's wait and give ourselves a presentation at Hartlepool - we all deserve it.

Not to mention one of their top men getting pissed up and pissing off all the Europeans. No wonder they laughed our World Cup bid out of town.

  • Can we please print this in the programme on the day and any home game beforehand? Would be a good idea in my books!

TBH can't see too many East & West Standers willing to leave behind their flasks & blankets to invade the pitch :-)

Fa are a bunch of bores but seeing as they have threatened us with no presentation everyone must abide by there rules and stay off the pitch. Will be so upsetting for everyone, fans, players, staff if we didnt get to see it.

Maybe BDL can mention it a few times before the match and just before the final whistle just to remind any muppet who wants to ruin the day

Yes, this is the ultimate in Politically Correctness. Anyone who was there on Saturday will know there wasn't one angry intention there. It's a shame that things like this get in the way of true love, passion and raw emotion for a football team. Football is the loser in my opinion but I suppose it's a result of the hooliganism over the years. Shame.
  • why is it unbelievable, your bound to get some idiot, swing at the ref or the linesmen or even a player from the opposition... we all know the rules so why break them, celebrate with all the other fans in the stands, i really cant see why people have to run on the pitch.

Are they really going to start banning everyone or punishing everyone that did it? There was about 100 that did it. It would be impossible to catch everyone and they aren't just going to ban or punish some and not others.

Think Ketman said they would not be taking any action.

If they did it would prob only be the people the club know. The club relise in my opion that people only went on the pitch to celebrate and nothing else.

As for the F.A, they just dont know what its like to be a real fan.

    But you never!

No Carlisle were involved, I wasn't an angry pitch invasion. Was good natured and spontaneous.

    I blame the fans No.526

How is anyone going to get on the pitch with all the people blocking the aisles getting back to their cars to miss the traffic?

and we should all go on the pitch for the last game to celebrate. If the trophy(if we win it) cant be presented then we just close the roads off down by the Antigalligan and present the trophy in the middle of the road from an open top bus.

***for legal reasons I am not encouraging anybody to go on the pitch.***
