On the train home. Until the penalty, which in my opinion was brought about by a terrible mistake by Morro (completely ignored Hamer's call and then passed it to them along the goalline) and a blatant dive we were looking dominant and should have been more than 1 up. After we only really had one chance - wagstaff missed an absolute gimme 5 yards out unmarked ball rolled across to him.
Scunthorpe really out muscled us and played some good football down the wings. Hollands must be knackered as I have not been impressed with him for a few games. Wiggins has been quiet. Jackson obviously playing unfit and got taken off injured. Russell was probably our best player first half and had a shocker in the second. We gave the ball away so much in central midfield (when they had the chance to given that we just resorted to pumping endless long balls up to yann bwp or noone).
Don't know what has happened to Morro this week but he just needs to get back to basics.
On balance Hamer or Solly were probably our best players today.
Forward and left sided midfielder in on loan this week please.
Great summary, ISLS. You said it all .
I was very impressed with Russell's game first half but faded in the second. Spoke to several who also thought Hollands had a shocker. And yes, Wiggy is looking jaded at the minute....
Sky high balls constantly bypassed our midfield which made it difficult for them to get a toe hold but when the ball was on the ground, we kept giving it away. Pretty poor performance against a rough & tough side who played to their strengths. But a point nevertheless.
TBH I am nervous and disappointed with the manner in which we seem to be tailing off. 3 points on Tues night would instill a much needed confidence boost - desperately needed before the trip to Huddersfield next weekend.
Ok I must have been at the other Scunthorpe v Charlton game then. That wasn't brilliant but it wasn't dog poo either. You can only play as good as the opposition let you especially when you let them back in the game. Off of the back of 2 home defeats I wasn't too disappointed with a draw; were you in all honesty? It was never going to be pretty given their size and style of play. Teams are not going to just roll over and we stood up to them so credit to our team for getting something out of the game.
Good point won. OK. we've been playing 'ugly' for some time - but 'just' need a win on Tuesday to almost see us there. Believe we will beat Orient,Wycombe and Pools at least , which will give us 88 points plus 2 or 3 draws, so totalling 91. This would mean the Sheffield clubs having to win 8 out of the last 9 games to overtake us - unlikely. The way United are playing they are more than likely to lose 3 (they have to play Notts County away on Tuesday, if we win and they lose, then they could be out of the race). Wednesday the ones to watch right now, but cant see them winning 11 of last 12 , can you?
Very very dissapointed at the way things turned out....the difference in class between the two sides was immense prior to the softest penalty you're likely to see all season. Indeed, no one could have argued had we been two up by that stage. The penalty gave Scunny just the encouragement they needed and we then proceeded to 'fall apart' somewhat.....we promptly lowered ourselves to their level and what remaind was something of a dour unimaginative 70 minutes of pretty much 'hoof ball'. Waggys miss in the second half will live long in the memory.
the team in 19th or thereabouts battered us for the majority of the game. I'm sorry but I don't see how you can view that performance positiviely
No they didn't....it was pretty much 'even Stephens' after their penalty and it could have gone either way. Prior to the penalty we were walking away with the 3 points.
We only drew against the 19th placed team. Sheff W just beat a team that hammered us and they played them at there place. We have really got to step up. Think the Wendies are now the ones to watch.
I'm always shocked people expect us to beat the teams at the bottom who are fighting for their lives. In the run-in form goes out of the window. There's no more stringing wins together using all your attacking verve, there's just grinding out results, and that makes playing teams at the bottom extremely difficult as they put everything they've got into the game. Us getting a draw against the 19th placed team with 10 games to go doesn't surprise me at all, particularly as Scunthorpe shouldn't even be there in the first place. Waaahdnesday have the bounce but that won't last for 9 games
1-1's not the best result in the world but certainly not the worst.
If we win Tuesday then everything will be looking very rosey again. Defeat though and the trip to Hudds will suddenly look very menacing esp if Weds win again- they have an easy looking home game on paper

Yes and we won 0-4 at Chesterfield 3 weeks ago, which was the week after they beat Sheff W. Chesterfield also held MKD 1-1 yesterday. Swings and roundabouts.
Just watched the highlights on the EveryotherteambutCharltoninthe Football League Show.
BWP's goal was lovely, looked his old confident self with that finish. Morro. Oh Morro, why mate? If he had left that Hamer would have scooped it up. And the Scunny player clearly dived, Wiggy didn't touch him.

Unlucky.
Wiggy clipped his heels. Even Chris Powell agreed it was a penalty.

We are still not playing well, and the penalty was the follow-on from yet another defensive mis-communication.
We need someone to inject a bit of life into the side again.

It was all Scunthorpe after the break, can't quite believe we got away with a point really.
We made John Parkin look like Messi, the defence were all over the shop.

Think they are the danger now rather than Utd
