  • A mini blip stopped with a draw and still 9 points clear this team will be champions without a doubt

Sheff Utd will be the team looking over their shoulder now, never mind chasing us!

Lets hope they get beat at Notts on Tuesday.

These remaining games are ticking down ..... this time next week, the top 3 will each have just 7 games left to play.
  • The biggest positive for me to come out of this seemingly inexplicable loss of form / confidence is that it shows the squad up for what it is. Good enough to get out of league one but although large doesn't have the depth of quality that I once thought it did. I'm confident we will win promotion but to ensure Champioship survival or progression to a top eight Championship team I think it shows SCP and the board that we need to once again ring the changes to the tune of eight or nine players to enhance the first team and squad. If this happens then it will as far as I am concerned be worthwhile stumbling over the finish line. COYR

Imagine what you would have thought of the Norwich and Southampton teams who huffed and puffed out the league in the end
  • It's like Curbs in disguise ... Two bad results and we grind out a point to stop the rot and move on .... 3 points on Tuesday and we'll be back to world beaters and the what date will we be promoted thread will be buzzing

Which, as CP said on Tuesday, they added to.

Anyway next season is next season. Cross that bridge when we get to it.

No doubt knowledgable and astute Saints and Canaries had exactly the same thoughts ;0)

Does it looklike we could do with some fresh legs before the end of the season?
  • No second plan.

Ps Scunthorpe is one word and doesn't need a capital in the middle!

  • 2 weeks ago we were 17 points ahead of Wednesday today 9, midweek home game=
shit performance then away to Huddersfield. Happy Days
Wednesday are the form team since they got rid of Megson. Having won their last three, Jones is beginning to look like an inspired appointment for them and they now have every chance of pipping Shef U for second place.

I say second because we will definitely go up as champs. There's no real doubt about that - not least because as we limp over the line, everyone but Wednesday is limping just as badly behind us.

Wendies have four wins in their last five.

    But for the rest it's:-

    Charlton two wins in five

Shef U one win in five

    Hudersfield one win in five.

    Dons two wins in five.

If there were two teams in the chasing pack on a late run of unstoppable form, perhaps I'd be worried. But there aren't. In particular, what advantages our ''points in the bag'' position is that there are no easy games left for anyone (with the possible exception of those lucky enough to be playing the free-falling Bournemouth and the sky-diving Bury). Anyone in the bottom half could still get sucked into a relegation battle, and most of them are battling like crazy and picking up points against higher placed clubs, as the likes of not only Scunthorpe, but also Chesterfield, Rochdale, Wycombe and Tranmere showed today.

Limping over the line may not even be a bad thing for us in the lmedium-term. It shows that may be we are not quite as good as we thought we were (the notion a couple of weeks ago that prem. scouts were after Wiggins, Solly, Hamer, Kermit etc, is perhaps an indication that some - me included - were in danger of getting carried away by our position at the top of the table). What's happening now will show the owners that if they want to compete in the championship next season, they are going to have to dig deep into their pockets and bring in at least half a dozen players more gifted than the current squad.

Don't quite see how the other results went our way. Our two rivals got a point and three points respectively so we're worse off than before the game. Still, if we get a point a game they'd have to get over two a game to overtake us. That statistic alone shows that we've still got a huge lead.
Depends if you look at it as champions or just promotion though. Only Wednesday gained on us, no one else. For them to be chipping away at our promotion spot at least 2 of the following pack need to get more points than us. One aim - Promotion, and as champs would be the icing.

Who put the tea in Scunthope ????? Don't get it Oggy ;0)

  • Would like Powell to bring Paul Hayes back , would like a cheeky bid to put in for beavon from Wycombe - him and Hayes seem and good partnership
Beavon's also up to 20 goals like Bradders i think?
  • Feck me suicide watch for the Lifers. Nine points clear, nine games left, stop whinging and whinning grow some and get from behind the sofa and cheer the boys on every game from now until Hartlepool.
  • As long as we go up at Carlisle I don't care.
  • think it will get worse before it gets better, an in-form yeovil side followed by hudds away.

but after that orient, oldham and walsall is better, we only need another four wins really, we'll get there.

At least a draw today was important to stop the rot and we got it away from home. Good for Chris. I think we'll beat Yeovil at home on Tuesday. It's the following pack who have it all to do. 10 more points will do it for us.
  • I think we need to believe, although our goal difference would be tested if we were to drop points we currently have the benefit of it and that effectively gives 10 points. CP has to hold his nerve and then ensure that the team realise even if we go down to 3 points we are stil in the driving seat, relax play our football and we'll get no where near losing points down to a three point gap. Its a test of CP and of us, however he is the one that needs to keep the players calm.

Judging by the thread title, looks like LoOkie did that ....!
  • Wasnt there so can only speculate.

Positives - Hamer back on form and it sounds like we crafted a decent goal.

Negatives - Morrow and Taylor sounded below par again and another game where we have been undone by 5 in midfield.

Grateful for a point at a team on a decent run. However, I cant help but think that if we matched these teams up with an extra man in midfield, then we'd be having less heart stopping afternoons.

That's what Paul Hayes does. He creates for his partner. Of course Beavon scored before Hayes joined but he's having his best run now alongside Paul.

  • Clem_Snide. Extra man in midfield, Yes couldn't agree with you more. Especially as our confidence has slumped. Definately would do this away from home
  • I see that Sheff Untied don't have a fixture next weekend ....

I guess they should have played Chesterfield, who are at Wemberlee in Johnnies Paintpot Atrophy?
  • Something is not right at Charlton and Chrissy Powell needs to sort it out soon. No idea what but we were looking like we were going to walk this league earlier in the season and now we look nervous and people are talking about "limping over the line". Ok if we do limp over the line and still go up automatically thats fine, but we as fans have the right to be nervous when we are not performing well because oddly enough no one knows for sure that we will go up yet. Our only saving grace is that Sheff Utd and Huddersfield keep dropping points also, but Sheff Wed keep winning and are catching us... Sorry not being negative but that worries me. Why shouldn't it?

We have the players clearly for this league otherwise we wouldn't be in the position we currently are. But something is not clicking at the moment. Fatigue, lack of concentration, loss of form of too many key players, complacency... any of these could destroy a season. Correct we can't expect to win every game.... but don't champions win regularly, and with 2 losses and a poor performance draw its not good whatever way you look at it.

Hoping for a good win on Tuesday night to get the confidence back in the players and the fans. As said we have the players we just need the mentality.

    COME ON YOU ADDICKS!!!!
  • Did Scunny play 4-5-1 today?
  • Second best today. Could have lost that so I will take the point.

Wiggins had the worst game I have seen from him. Generally we seemed off the pace and couldn't get a passing game going. We played into their hands a bit with high balls as we lost comfortably more headers than we won. We wanted more time on the ball than they were going to give us. Russell in particular was too slow on the ball and lost possession too often. Duffy was always a threat for them. Waggy showed how easy it is to lose the pace of the game when you aren't involved on match days. Hamer saved us a point after the keystone cops both fell over - what the hell was going on there? The good news is we are better than that and are still 9 points clear somehow!
