  • Solly just played bad because of the Man Utd scouts, hopefully they don't return
  • Posting without reading.

How do you describe that first half? a decent strike once again for the first goal with Hamer perhaps unsighted so going for it late. The other 3 goals, in varying ways, were down to a defensive comedy of errors. A free header, Morrison and Hamer playing after you Claude and general backing off reminiscent of Mc Carthy or Hudson at their worst.

At least we had the spirit to come out and win the second half rather than completely capitulate and for someone who can't cross according to the Charlton Life cogniscenti Waggy didn't do at all badly.

There are still 11 points in real terms between us and thirs so hopefully we can recover from this nervous patch and stagger over the line to ONE AIM!!!!!!

Nice to meet up with Weegie and Mr Weegie.
This is pretty much spot on. Although I have to say that one of the goals (possibly the second, although it might have been the third- my mind is clouded by disbelief) began when Wagstaff lost the ball cheaply. I like Waggy though and it's unfair to single him out, it takes 11 men to win or lose a game
  • The second half showed what was wrong with the first and it wasn't tiredness. Lack of commitment and application. Shame we resorted to hoofball after getting 2 back so early, the 2 goals resulted mainly from proper football.

CP's after match view says it all, I feel a bit more optimistic we will turn it around after reading what he had to say and knowing he will not accept this throwback to Charllton of recent years.
  • Not too many hhave mentioned County's quality. Their goalie did a lot if hoofing it up, but they really played. They msy have got lucky with some of our mistakes, but, as we have done to other clubs, they took full advantage and made their ascendancy count. Fair play to them.
  • Their attacking line-up was sharp in the first half and gave our midfield the run around; a good second half by the team was a consolation but I hope CP and the team are learning lessons from these 2 disappointing home performances.
  • Shocking first half...was proper car crash and didnt believe what I was seeing.

Great opening to the second half and showed a lot of character and think had the Richard Griffiths dopledanger given BWP a penalty i think we'd have turned it round. Wasnt to be and we ran out of ideas.

Very poor result and need to dust ourselves off and get back on our game for the run in which having seen enough of the team and the manager im more than confident we will.

Just as ive not got the champers out yet ill leave the Morrisey records and razor blades in the cupboard for now.

We will still win the league i think but the run in will be a true test of our character and well deservedly be champions if we step up to it.

  • Keith Curle has something about him. Maybe he's the genius not Warnock : - )

Shocking display first half for which Hamer has to take a large slice of blame but there were other culprits. Stephens and Holland just aren't getting to grips with oppo midfields. I know they are often playing against three men but as a team we're not coping.

Hamer's confidence seemed shot and Powell even had Sullivan warming up. Beaten again from long range and not commanding.

Better 2nd half but Co. didn't need to attack or offer anything at 4 - 0.

Well done to the "headless chicken who can't cross and who never does anything" who never the less beat two men to cross the ball for the first goal and scored the second (that's four for the season). BWP put himself about well and well taken goal even if it looked like a foul on the keeper. Few others rate a mention.

A week off to re-charge the batteries and re-assess the tactics.

Decent post, Henry . Sums up my thoughts especially regarding Stephens & Hollands. Pretty sure that SCP said on Thursday evening that Hughes is fit but for some reason doesn't seem to fancy him either in the starting eleven or on the bench. Surely he or Russell should be given a game sooner rather than later ? Most people I've spoken with since Tuesday feel that midfield is where our problem lies...

Totally agree re Hamer. Must be having flashbacks of his blunder 4 days ago as he seemed pretty nervy out there this afternoon. Big job on the cards for Ben Roberts this coming week...as to how we would fare ahgainst this in form side

SO want to stay positive but couldn't bring myself to post pre match on here as usual because I was worried as to how we would perform against this in form side. It's not the 2 defeats in themselves, but the manner in which we have been playing since Stevenage. For whatever reason, the gel that was bonding this team so tightly together is beginning to dissolve and it does concern me.

Let's hope that SCP invests in a big tube of super glue this week and rebuilds the spirit, confidence and flair that this set of lads has shown us for the best part of this season. And I will say it again.....

    BELIEVE !

  • Lack of commitment and application
The general census around where I sit also for the first 45.

I'm none too pleased, I hardly make any games anymore, except the last two home matches!

Let's hope this blip ends soon.

  • Ok Thats get to the facts. SCP has no idea how to play against a 4-5-1 team who ever it is. Don't blame the players we had enough points just to play steady and perhaps nick a point but oh no he knows best he continues to play the team which has not been succesful in its format for the last couple of weeks when will he learn. the man is a bloody fool. His team talk before the game is obviously not working and yet the start of the second half they came out a different team although it still ended the same result a bad defeat. Sorry but this is bloody awful to watch now
Fair weather fans armchair fans always make the silliest comments, what planet are they on?CP has done an outstanding job this season, a couple of bad performances don't make a season, we have taken points off the best teams around us, he knows what he is doing. If you were at the match today and saw the perfect response in the 2nd half after a servere ear bashing from CP you will know that everything will be OK, we will go up as Champions and go up in style. But expect a couple more wobblies. What matters is how many we now win - 5 from 10 and a couple of draws will be enough. Let's get behind them and trust them to come good.
  • Our stronger start to the 2nd half came when Hollands sat more (tiredness or instructed to who knows!?) allowing Stephens to push on to claim a few of the 2nd balls from Yann's flick ons, something we hadn't done for a while now. It's not Hollands' natural role, but the results must give CP something to think about in future selections. . .
I'm going with joint blame for Hamer & Taylor. Everyone could see it wasn't going to run through, but given it almost happened earlier in the game, even if Hamer did call for it (& then never got there), Taylor should have taken control.
The 4-3-3 we changed to during the 1st half didn't work as it left both Wiggins & Solly exposed too much whilst JJ was too off the pace to be in the middle.

    But still 10pts clear!!

  • Well played Notts County. They have a good combination of skill and power ideal for this League. To go four up in the first half away at the League leaders is a big achievement. Its not just about that we did wrong but what they did right.

Having said that, very shocked by this Charlton performance on the back of a very similar showing against Colchester. At least we had the character to have a go in the second half. Have no idea why Saint Chris did not throw on some fresh legs when we started to lose momentum after the failed penalty appeal. The second goal put real doubt in the Notts County players and the crowd were well up for it. Shame he had one of his bunny in the headlights moments.

Not in state of panic (yet) but Saint Chris will have to show that good managers know what to do when things are not quite right.

    Good post, Grumps.

" Character " was the word I was looking for earlier.

Loads of this required from now on , please !

  • A complete nightmare of a first half when we lacked in every department. County competed and we didn't. They bypassed our midfield and went through our defence at will. None of the back five played well. This was the worst I have seen Solly play in what has otherwise been a superb season for him. Wiggins seems to have forgotten how to get forward and Forte played between our central defenders so neither picked him up. Hamer was at fault for the first and third as it is his call to tell Taylor what to do. Either 'keepers ball' or 'away' but letting Forte get in was unforgivable.
When Yann comes deep or out wide, BWP has no support within 15 yards so is almost always battling 2 defenders. If Yann goes deep or out it is vital that Hollands or Stephens goes forward.
BWP played his heart out today and got his reward - alas to no avail.
I don't go with the 'they're tired' claim. The opposition have played just as many games as us.
  • Can I just check - is the S in SCP for Sir or Saint. I have seen reference to both.

Or is it for something else ?

Most disappointing thing about today was how easy we made it for Notts first half. Didn't think anything of them despite being 4-0 up, just felt like we rolled over and let them score every time they went near our box. Second half restored the faith though

Enjoyed my first game in the North Upper despite the score...

i'm worried , the poor performances that were scraping results aren't good enough and the luck gods have deserted us

hamers got to take command for the third and direct the defender what to do but in taylors position he can still pull rank and put the ball in row Z
the old long range worldy's are coming back to haunt us , he should have saved the first as well but unfortunately i don't think we have an able deputy so i'd deffo stick with hamer

midfield were dead on their feet and with the non substitutions i hope it means that SCP knows that we have jack all depth in quality in our squad and should we go up we will need a reasonable overhaul

can't argue with waggys well worked assist or goal and tenacity but i still think he is pony and would rather green played but waggy definitely deserves a go at scunthorpe nonetheless and maybe the myth of greenie not helping our defence out might disappear !

that was a deffo penalty for the foul on BWP but i still cant believe he didn't give a foul for our first , i think at that point the ref felt sorry for us

anyway bad news the percentages are back

45% champions 45% runners up 10% play offs and guaranteed heartache

3 weeks diet and no chocolate had to be broken tonight with a cadburys attack cheers charlton aaaaaaaaah

finishing on a positive i thought the support was magnificent today and credit where it's due i didnt hear any boooooos and well done to everyone who got behind the team

  • Still confident we will go up as champions....so much so that I vowed that if we didn;t go up id stop going............. !!

I still don't understand all the booing at half time. This team is 10 points clear, have beaten the pretenders to the throne in their own back yards and have been surperb all season - surely they are allowed a little blip. I will only start get worried if we haven;t got more than 80/81 points come the Orient game.

    COYR
  • i didn't think there were any booos at ht but i think i was numb and dumb and deaf by then
  • First half was simply embarrassing, no idea what the second one was like as we left at HT....

    Move on
Christ. How plastic can you be?

  • Haha, you've lost TWO games. Worry when you do what we did last season and lose 9 on the bounce and set a club record!

I think a bit of perspective is perhaps needed here. I love footie fans, generally such a pessimistic bunch!
    You're not wrong Pie.
10 points clear at the top and yet now either won't go up or 3/4 of the team needs changing.
    You couldn't make it up
  • Posted after having the goods manners to read the preceding drivel ;-)

Told my son I had a bad feeling about this match.
There's a certain pressure that comes with being top of the league, especially as long as we have been.
I didn't think it would affect us simply because we are so far ahead and this group seem so mentally strong.
Thing is though it's hard to sustain the intensity week in and week out particularly when you always seem to find enough to win games when the football isn't really flowing.
Fact is we came up against a team on top form when our mindset wasn't right.
It wasn't complacency although I can see why some might say that; more we have become unaccustomed to coming out of the blocks fired up with the adrenalin flowing and driven by the fear of defeat..
Having said that; the first goal was important and they got it with a quality strike.
Second goal Solly caught out of position and lame defending all round.
Third goal killed it and Hamer screwed up.
    Fourth good cross and finish.
Glad to see a spirited response in the second half - last years team would have folded completely.
If we had got the pen we deserved when BWP we floored we may even have pulled off the impossible.
Heads up to Waggy for a great cross (why can't you do that more often?) and a goal.
You wonder what he actually has to offer sometimes - well he offers that.
Did you also notice him geeing up and firing up the other players?
I seriously doubt our mindset will be wrong for the next game.
Let this result be a motivator and move on.
I'm confident we are going up as champions
  • I hate losing

Cider has finally numbed the pain

So all you lot in doom get pissed and move on its going to be a long week I suggest u get pissed everyday until Saturday
  • Powell said we're not tired. So in that case it's a lack of committment & application. 1st half we gave 90% & Notts C gave 100%. That was the main difference. It's very hard not to be complacent when you're so far clear.
A number of players had shockers.
Hamer - He certainly contributed to the 1st & 3rd goals.
Solly - worst game this season.
Wiggins - worst game for some time & he hasn't been great for more than a month.
Taylor - Shocker, well off the pace. But was his 1st bad game of the season.
    Morro - Ok
Hollands - Poor doesn't play well with Stephens
    Stephens - Poor ditto Hollands
    Waggy - Did well
Jackson - Far too quiet 1st half.
    Kermy - played well
BWP - Very good game. Gave 100% unlike the others.
  • Left this a while to consider things over..

For me, the biggest thing in these past two games..is that we are getting outplayed in midfield.

Their number 14 dropped off between our defence and midfield...neither packs of 4 had a clue how to deal with him....Powell changed it to 4-3-3 late in the first half to contain him when 3-0 done...perhaps should have done it earlier...it worked up until the 4th goal.

Stephens was awful for me...he just doesn't seem fit enough...he left Judge for the second goal..and he also had quite a few misplaced passes.

Taylor had his worst game so far this season for me...

    Wiggins seemed out of confidence.

The second half was much better...BWP was really good...but again we couldn't seem to break through them towards the end.

For me, we need someone like Hughes in midfield..to allow players like Wiggy and Hollands to push up..we seemed more attacking when Hughes was in the side.

That second half has made me believe that we can still end up as Champions..

Shame its my Birthday tomorrow...cause i could have done with 3 points to celebrate!

  • Regardless of the form of Notts County, we gave them that win today with our first half defending and, like Colchester in the week, you give a semi well organised team a lead then you're going to struggle. Give them a four goal lead then you're mullered. The basis of what we've done this season is just that- a good base, hopefully a clean sheet and then nick a goal or two. If the defence loses their head over the next few games, things could go tits up. Please God they don't.......

On another note, I do struggle to get my head around people who didn't go to the game giving big opinions shortly afterwards. Nothing personal and no dig about you not going but if I'd not been there, I'd hold fire personally. Just an opinion......
  • The Suicide Squad are certainly back in earnest!

We've had a bad week, but thankfully we get off the 'playing twice a week every week' schedule, and find time to regroup and recover.

This lineup has done the business virtually every week for 7 months now so nothing is majorly wrong - it just needs an injection of fresh energy in midfield.

We've played 3 successive games in which our midfield has struggled against teams playing 5 in midfield. Midfield is the engine room, and our engine is being over run.

I am concerned about Hamer's form (maybe that injury when subbed at Bournemouth is still having an effect?) and Jackson not looking 100%.

Chris Powell may well have thrown some tea cups in the half time dressing room - but Tuesday will be the day of inquest. He won't tolerate today's 1st half performance again.

People who couldn't get to the game don't live in a bubble of isolation.

I couldn't be there to day but I've already had plenty of conversations tonight with people who were!

So I've got a decent grasp of events, the same as you.

I think it is more aimed towards people saying that we were complacent on Tuesday, but weren't today, whilst being in a different continent. I don't like giving definitive statements when I saw nothing with my own eyes.
  • Chill the fucked out people if we go on a bad run we go on one shall we sack scp or man up to the challenge only the players know maybe like most of us they thought they were over the line now they know they ain't

It's not a big deal yet man up ffs
