... but you could understand if they were complacent on Tuesday, Oakster..?

complacency is inevitable at times in football. just another part of how confidence plays a big part in the game. as SCP said before the game - we always bounce back. today we didn't, so let's hope they're extra focused next time out.
  • You can afford this loss, we couldn't. Stevenage have 3 games in hand on us and Carlisle have 2. We had to keep fighting. I doubt any player goes out there intending to be complacent, but when you're so many points ahead at the top of the table you must start to feel a bit comfortable, even if it's subconsciously.

IMO there is no way you will blow it, you will go up as champions. As I said in the match thread, maybe, just maybe, we can return the favour by beating both Sheffield clubs in our next two games?? Really would be in dreamland then.

Amazing result for us today. We tend to sit back on a lead and it's back to the wall stuff. I had to turn the commentary off I was so nervous after your 2nd goal lol. Honestly thought we were going to blow it.

Good luck for the rest of the season, but I don't think you'll need it with the quality of your squad.
  • Could someone who has played the game let me know when it's ok to panic please?
  • Panic now we ain't goin up
  • If I go have a kick about now, can I be annoyed?

    Bollox.

  • Awful defending first half and they took every chance they had.

Second half was a terrific performance but the challenge wasn't just scoring 4+ goals, it was finding the time to do it amongst all Notts' time wasting, fouling and injury feigning.

You won't see a clearer pen than BWP's and had that been given it could have been different.

If Greenie was dropped, Powell will be kicking himself, if he was injured then fair play, I probably would have started Haynes too.

I'm starting to wonder if it is actually a curse having Yann the man in the team because he gets fouled so much it's ridiculous.

I'll have to see the goals again to see whether they were taylor or Hamer's fault but I think those 2 confirmed today that they won't be making the step up to the Championship as easily as some others.
  • We'll go up... just coughing and spluttering like a tired old dog by the looks of it. With as much glamour that Charlton usually exude!
  • Could someone who has played the game let me know when it's ok to panic please?
When your centre half is facing his own goal, shielding the ball from the opposition striker and you're not sure whether to come and deal with it. ;-)
  • Nice post VisitingPie. Good luck. Please stuff the wendies for both of us.

  • Hamer had a poor game, but I was more disappointed with Taylor today, he was woeful. Wiggins and Jackson were shocking as well, and Hollands and Stephens lost ball after ball in the middle of the park. What was up with Haynes? Was he injured or did Powell think his first 12 minutes of nothingness warranted a sub? No massive panic from this, but i'd like to think Powell will now consider playing a couple more squad players now
  • Haha, you've lost TWO games. Worry when you do what we did last season and lose 9 on the bounce and set a club record!

I think a bit of perspective is perhaps needed here. I love footie fans, generally such a pessimistic bunch!
  • cant remember the last time we played well at home.

thankfully our away form will see us over the line.

    4.

Green was injured...........Haynes started but went off injured after 13 mins with Waggy coming on

  • Ok Thats get to the facts. SCP has no idea how to play against a 4-5-1 team who ever it is. Don't blame the players we had enough points just to play steady and perhaps nick a point but oh no he knows best he continues to play the team which has not been succesful in its format for the last couple of weeks when will he learn. the man is a bloody fool. His team talk before the game is obviously not working and yet the start of the second half they came out a different team although it still ended the same result a bad defeat. Sorry but this is bloody awful to watch now
The same man who got us 10 points clear at the top of the league with three manager of the month award's along the way....
  • Mrs Incorruptible : ''Never mind. You can't win every game dear.''

Me: ''I know that you silly mare, and it's not the bloody point!''

We haven't had many probelms this season. But in so far as we have had any, it has been our home form.

Only MK Dons in the top seven have won fewer home games than us (and Dons will probably catch us up when they play the home game they have in hand).

Away from the Valley we are streets ahead of anyone else - 42 pts on our travels when the next best is 27 pts.

It's the away form that means we should still end up as champions - because the home stats are play-off form rather than title-winning form.

Why? Absolutely no idea. I just hope Powell isn't as clueless about the reasons for it as I am!!!

  • I know, I was there. But thanks.
  • Sorry Eaststand I should have said home games, it's incredible form to only lose 2 with ten games to go.

Even Notts couldn't screw this up in your position.
  • You just gotta laugh - who REALLY thought this would be easy ! - This is Charlton and we ALWAYS do it the hard way - down to last game of the season probably, but hey, isn't that why we have supported them for so long....the positve for me is that finally after several years of passionless football at least the lads now give a damn and put in the effort... nothing's changed, onwards and upwards, we haven't got to run faster than the lion, just faster than the rest of the teams and we're top of the league - and they have still got to catch us yet...

  • I'm not afraid we'll screw it up VP. I am 100% certain we are going up as champions.
I'm just annoyed at losing points at home, especially in such a lacklustre first half performance.
  • Out worked in all departments first half

Hamer had a stinker no doubt about it but the midfield never got into Notts County (who looked excellent)

Their centre forward gave a lesson in how to play up top on your own, brilliant display from him.

NLA where did you go with my season you wally?????
  • Just our traditional end of season slump.

Yes, although the evidence of the strength of character in our squad says otherwise, I could allow for some complacency on Tuesday, but when you are facing one of the division's form teams on the back of a poor 2-0 home defeat how could a professional footballer & manager of the calibre we have go out there thinking we've already won

I want to know who these complacent charlatans are in our squad

Can anyone name names for those of us not there

im glad you apologised for that post.

Stevenage? If we'd taken our chances it would have been 5-6.

Seem to recall the 2-0 win over Stevenage was impressive enough.
We don't become a bad team in the space of a few days. What Powell needs to do is to get some of them on the psychiatrist's couch and convince them how good they are. Second half performance hopefully helped somewhat otherwise it won't be the opposition that beats us, it will be what's going on in the players heads.

  • There's only one John Sullivan.

Agreed with that..one of the two games I've seenthis season and we mudered Stevenage........today perhaps we were just out of steam...and pure pride got us to play better 2nd half......7 days till our next macth.....time for a break and some work on the training ground.........then back to normal ways next Saturday I hope

I get that, especially after playing so well for most of the season, but a lot on here genuinely seem to think you'll blow it. With your goal difference Shef u would have to win 4 games to overtake you..AND you lose. I know they have a game in hand but I just don't see it. Not even close.

I'd sooner hear that we played well rather than you played badly, but I'll take all the positives I can get at this stage. We all expected midtable at most and to be within a shout of the playoffs is dreamland for us.
