  • We are a much better team when we keep the ball on the ground, at the moment we hoof the ball forward in the air too much.
  • The midfield in recent weeks has gone missing at bournemouth ok we got the right result but our midfield didnt turn up and this has happened in our last 2 home games ,maybe complacency is creeping we have a big squad or so it seemed with ie pritchard , hughes , russell, etc i also would av kept hayes find it amazing that we av got clarke ahead of him in the pecking order, still we are 10 points clear and i could think of a few teams who would swap with us .

  • ... but you could understand if they were complacent on Tuesday, Oakster..?

complacency is inevitable at times in football. just another part of how confidence plays a big part in the game. as SCP said before the game - we always bounce back. today we didn't, so let's hope they're extra focused next time out.
Yes, although the evidence of the strength of character in our squad says otherwise, I could allow for some complacency on Tuesday, but when you are facing one of the division's form teams on the back of a poor 2-0 home defeat how could a professional footballer & manager of the calibre we have go out there thinking we've already won

I want to know who these complacent charlatans are in our squad

Can anyone name names for those of us not there
I think my point is that you suggest there was complacency on Tuesday but that it was ok, but anyone who suggests there was complacency today is seemingly calling our players unprofessional charlatans.

I think they started very slowly. No idea why. Over confidence would explain it. Very hard to recognise 11 players' mindset (!), so its just speculation.
  • Keith Curle has something about him. Maybe he's the genius not Warnock : - )

Shocking display first half for which Hamer has to take a large slice of blame but there were other culprits. Stephens and Holland just aren't getting to grips with oppo midfields. I know they are often playing against three men but as a team we're not coping.

Hamer's confidence seemed shot and Powell even had Sullivan warming up. Beaten again from long range and not commanding.

Better 2nd half but Co. didn't need to attack or offer anything at 4 - 0.

Well done to the "headless chicken who can't cross and who never does anything" who never the less beat two men to cross the ball for the first goal and scored the second (that's four for the season). BWP put himself about well and well taken goal even if it looked like a foul on the keeper. Few others rate a mention.

A week off to re-charge the batteries and re-assess the tactics.

It's not all over, it's slightly worrying but when the going gets tough......
  • First half we seemed to have nothing in the middle. Taylor and Morrison, who have been outstanding most of the year, looked completely devoid of confidence and scared of the ball. In front of them, Hollands' usual industry was absent and Stephens tried to be neat and stylish but seemed to just drift around achieving nothing. In contrast, Bishop and Mahon of Notts, two experienced baldies, got stuck in and operated as a tight unit, winning the middle of the pitch. Jackson looked dead on his feet and Wagstaff did not offer creativity. Wiggins and Solly were their usual selves, but notts were all over the void where our spine should have been.

Kermorgant won everything, but him and BWP were singing from different hymn sheets in the first half. BWP worked his socks off but spent more time trying to make something happen on the right wing whilst Wagstaff floated around

Hamer wasn't to blame - he could've done better with the 3rd, but on another day Taylor would have also dealt with it decisively too.

For their first, Judge had all the time he needed to turn, pick his spot, leave a smug, long winded posting on a football forum and then stroke the ball into the corner. He reminded me of Lee Tomlin a bit in that he's a little chubber who can strike a ball very sweetly.

Second half we looked like we had a sense of purpose. When we got the ball down and moved it wide a bit we looked fluent, but these passages of play were all too brief. Perhaps this was just because we looked so clearly second best in the middle. Nelson looked an effete, nervous keeper and it's a shame he wasn't put under more pressure. Their centre half Stewart outmuscled everyone he came up against.

The North Upper sounded good all the way through. Shame about the team's first 45. Hopefully CP will give his half time talk before the first half from now on.
  • It needs a fresh injection of impetus. Jackson is injured imo and we should be doibg something to cover him. Solly limped through the second half as well.

I'd also get Hughes or Russell back in the side as well.

Hamer looked utterly devoid of confidence today and that quickly led to an edgyness in the back four. Several times second half a simple back pass to clear the danger was on. Wiggins espespecially seemed to be avoiding passing to Hamer.
  • I think they've just played too many games recently and came up against a good side that is in form. I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong.
  • I expected a positive response after Tuesday and we didn`t get one until it was far too late. If we don`t see a response next week then I think we have reason to be a little bit worried.
  • Didn't look like complacency to me, looked more like a lack of confidence and or nerves getting to them. A rock solid defence seems to have been rocked recently, I don't want to point fingers because as a unit they have been brilliant so far but on a number of occasions there was hesitancy in when to go to the ball or to drop back and I'm not just talking about Hamer, all the back 5 did it at some point. I'm not going to speculate what has caused it but CP needs to somehow get that confidence back. I have faith he will do it, no need to panic just yet.
  • cant remember the last time we played well at home.

thankfully our away form will see us over the line.
Stevenage? If we'd taken our chances it would have been 5-6.
Agreed with that..one of the two games I've seenthis season and we mudered Stevenage........today perhaps we were just out of steam...and pure pride got us to play better 2nd half......7 days till our next macth.....time for a break and some work on the training ground.........then back to normal ways next Saturday I hope
fair enough stevenge we played well in patches but they were awful. before that we battled well against MK Dons & Sheff Utd, without playing the type of football at the start of the season. Brentford was a professional win against a bad side that day. Rochdale, Bury & Oldham we were pony by our standards. Huddersfield we were excellent.

Maybe im asking a bit too much and the start this team gave us has raised our expectations....but i really fear our home games. Our away games, i think we will win everytime we go out onto another teams turf.

  • First half was horrific, Hamer to blame for the 3rd and maybe he shouldn't be beaten at that distance near post for the first....

2nd half was entertaining, but everyone could see we needed a change as it went flat for the last 20 minutes, but it shows Powell doesn't have much faith in his bench not bringing anyone on, especially Clarke, i'd bring Hayes back.

Couple more days like today and we'll be in panic mode, everyone needs to stop being complacent until it's mathmatically impossible to be caught
  • We were awful. The defense looked like they'd never met each other and Hamer couldn't catch a cold. On top of that we just kept giving the ball away and didn't close them down.

However in the 2nd half we did improve dramatically but the damage had all ready been done.
  • Said it before and will say it again, Hollands and Stephens should not be playing together. Would love to see Hughes back in the team. Our midfield is being overrun and outmuscled pretty much every game now and SCP needs to take action. He also needs to use his bench more. One enforced substitution today and then nothing, despite our obvious midfield shortcomings and half the team being dead on their feet.

Less said about Hamer and Taylor today the better.

Other results all pretty much went against us so we're up against it now. I still have confidence though.

  • First half ... Nothing to add to comments above ... we were dreadful.

Second half if we had got the penalty when Bradley went down, we may well have got a point or three.

This is our blip ... not concerned yet, but bloody frustrating ... but then again this is Charlton.

Crowd were immense 2nd half ... just the way it should be.
  • They were up for it more than us and you can see why, they're storming up towards the automatics, now in a play off place.. We're first and clear by a fair bit, game like Hudds away we'll be right up for it.. let's just hope we get a few more points before then.
  • Terrible first 45-no excuses. Dont understand all those fans who left - need to keep behind the team.
If we cant get promoted from our current position then the players should be embarrassed.
There are a lot of average players in our side and I can see us struggling in the Championship assuming we go up. 3 games on the bounce now we've been poor and slow out of the blocks.
Scunthorpe away wont be easy but the players will definitely be up for it.
  • What we've done so far is the hard part and the rest of the games are the easy parts but we've made the hard part look easy and now we're making the easy part look hard.

The end of season blip maybe?
  • Hamer getting criticised as expected but none of the back 5 covered themselves in glory today. Before this week the defence has been solid and allowed us not to have to chase games and rush our midfield / forward play as 1 goal in 90 minutes has usually been enough. This week the defenders have looked tired, out of form or both.
Waggy scored and got an assist but some of his other play was woeful and I worry that he has gone backwards since a promising start to the season.
No need to panic, 98 pts = promotion and probably 92 will be enough, 4 wins and 2 draws from 10 is still well within our grasp but this week has surely taught us we need more strength in depth when we play in the championship.

First half, Notts County played like a team that had something to play for. We looked like a team who thought they had won the league. Second half, we looked like a team who had something who played for and went for it. We need to put our foot back on the gas and accelerate over that finishing line and then we can relax ... C'mon Charlton, don't spoil all of the good work that you've in this season.
  • Not panicking too much

Next week we are away and will have Green and Hamer out of the side

That's exactly why I prefer waggys energy over Greens one cross a game he still has his faults but would keep him and bring Sullivan in for the run in now

Something needs to be done in the middle as Hollands and Stephens weren't covering each other an their 14 found the gaps and ran the show

Defence had their first nightmare of the season and showed how important they are when you have that clown behind them, an some people think he will cope with the likes of Cardiff and Birmingham next season :)

  • Hamer's confidence seemed shot
I agree. And it is only about ten days ago that Clive Walker was telling us on Radio London that the premiership scouts were at Chesterfield to look at Hamer and how impressed they must have been with him and how he had become a ''commanding presence'' for Charlton.

If he can go from ''commanding presence'' to ''confidence shot to pieces'' in the space of a week and a half then he must have a very fragile psyche. And unless the sports psychologists can work with him and inject a bit of rhinoceros hide, I fear that is going to undo him and prevent him from playing at a higher level.

  • I hate days like today. Weekend ruined and then i have the missus in the ear trying to cheer me up which winds me up even more. Would rather be left alone to drown the sorrows.

But as f**ked off as I am at the moment I'm extremely confident scunthorpe are going to be on the end of a serious tonking
  • I'm not going to blame the ref for not giving the penalty, but the lino had a clear view and it was a 100% pen and a red card. The lino bottled it big time.
I reckon we'd have got something from the game had we got that.
  • Have not read any other reviews
With 30 odd points to play for stop all this when will we get promotion / win the league boll..ks we have been sussed !
Since xmas we have got points (with the odd exception ) playing poorly, and should we lose the next 2/3 as other teams have the top two spots are wide open.
We have done fantastic but with 10 games to go Powell and co need to get plan b and c up and running.

Tell me about it. I posted earlier that when I got home Mrs Incorruptible said: ''Never mind, dear. You can't win every game.'' Shut up, woman. I know you are only trying to help. But don't. It has the exact opposite effect !!!

  • Our rocks in defence were pebbles on the beach in the first half, Englands No 3 will sort um out. Would you agree that from the 6 goals leaked 3 were keeper error's. So give Sully and Cort a run out against Scunthorpe
  • few points, disappointed that Powelly didn't throw another forward on at 4-2, he signed Clarke bloody back him.

disappointed and pretty surprised we haven't strengthed the squad since the loan window re-opened if you are letting Hayes and Docherty go out replace them.

Stephens as a holding midfielder is a defensive liability, we look knackered especially
    Jackson and Wiggins.

Dont know if it was a penalty but Powelly moaning at the referee after the game, come on Chris the ref didn't cost us the game.

16 of us have booked crossbars for final game of season as I handed the money over before the game, I said tongue in cheek this is the game we will miss out on automatic promotion, now I'm starting to worry. We have seen this on many occasions if we blow this I don't honestly know if I could ever forgive Charlton.

In our last six home games we have won 2 lost 2 drawn 2 and conceded the first goal on
4 occasions. The teo games we have won we have attacked covered end first half. When we concede first we dont win.
  • First time ive seen Solly play badly..

At 4 nil, think the second half performance was as important as trying to claw the goals back. Cant out looking like a top team again. Hopefully carry that into the next game.
  • We looked tired against an average Colchester team, and I remember saying that if CP didn't freshen things up 4 days later against an inform Notts County team - a much tougher opponent - we would be in trouble. Indeed there was a case form playing 5 in midfield today, and keeping it tight.

I don't know what Russell or Hughes need to do to get a game, when in the middle of the park we've clearly been struggling, even in games like Bournemouth where we were lucky. I thought Taylor looked ponderous against Colchester, I think the games are catching up with him.

Why do subs came on in the 2nd half was ridiculous, a tired team 2 goals down desperately needed fresh legs.

Lol. To top it off. My missus and her family are millwall. Not that they have much to cheer about.

You can imagine the tension in our house after that 4-0 defeat to the spanners
