Powell: Wright-Phillips doesn't deserve recent flak

  • This seems like something out of nothing... slow news day?
  • The Newtosser

    No need for that.

NS posts his articles on here to drive hits, and fully accepts that if people disagree them, they'll say so and discuss it.

But don't take it too far though, nastiness is not necessary.
Oh Dear . Another a slap on the wrist from AFKA ;)

    I apologise

  • AFKA - there is nothing wrong with posing the question that way and in fairness to CP if you read his response it is 100% supportive of BWP so the outcome was still the same.

He might be supportive of him but you've put the idea to him that the crowd aren't.
I have put the idea to him yes because that is what Danny Haynes hinted at on Tuesday. But uyou can see from CP's answer he is backing BWP totally and also (something which has got lost in this thread) he goes on to mention why he has confidence in all of his strikers despite their recent lack of goals.

  • News Shopper - "When I asked CP he wasn't aware of any boos". Why didn't you say that in the article? It's because it didn't serve your purpose which was to suggest that the fans are getting on BWP's back.
  • Bash the journo day again eh.
  • Ah, it's just like the old CL on here today. We've got hardly any swearing, witty retorts, inuendo, arguments and even a ghost. Good work people.

Fwiw I think people forget that NS is a reporter and just doing what everyone else would do in his situation. Especially no need to make it personal.

  • But it's not positive on the fans is it? How about a report on our attendances compared to other teams in higher leagues in South London ?

That can be do-able at some point Beds, I will bear that one in mind.

AFKA - I appreciate what you've said about the nastiness of the comments etc but honestly I'm not offended by any of it.

  • Surely you cant be missing the point NS? Its not CP's backing of the players that is the issue, but your damaging statement that the crowd aren't behind them.

By phrasing the question in a negative way you encourage the belief that we as supporters aren't right behind the team and are sounding out players who might be having a dip in form. By phrasing it like AFKA did you enforce a feeling of unity.

    Its not complicated
  • Nadou - you mean to suggest a small minority (as the article says) do, not everyone.

Good. I look forward to reading an article like that.

  • I thought I did hear some boos when BWP was subbed but wasn't sure if they were from East stand or away end (for walking off slowly).

They were for time wasting from MK Dons fans. Perhaps that is what Haynes heard to?
  • Addicted - the question wasn't phrased in the way you imply. I didn't say to CP 'Everybody is booing BWP. What do you have to say about that?'

It wouldn't have been a credible question as we are only talking about a small minority of people who have been moaning and groaning about BWP recently.

I've just listened back to my exact question and it was: 'Danny Haynes said after the game on Tuesday that people should lay off Bradley Wright-Phillips. What is your take on all that sort of stick he has been getting. I'm guessing you would back up (Haynes' supportive comments) as well?'

CP: Stick he has been getting?

Me: Apparently some pople have been moaning and booing about him because he hasn't scored for a while.

And then CP answers the question as quoted in the article.
  • But we have had a few, very few, posters on CL saying BWP is "lazy" "uninterested" "bad body language", " should be dropped" and that was even before the goal drought.

Some of our fans do slag him off. I had one standing behind me at Fulham.

Really don't see the problem with the article. The headline maybe as I can see that it framed as a negative but the article is fine IMHO
  • So you freely admit that you left out the bit where CP says

    'What Stick?',

    and open the article with

'CHRIS Powell has backed Danny Haynes’ suggestion fans should hold back on criticising Bradley Wright-Phillips after his recent barren spell in front of goal

    ...

And still don't think you're twisting it?
  • Paul

have you heard the fans popping at BWP whilst at the games

    because i havent,

I have suggested that he is tired on here and in need of a break, others have insinuated that he has a lazyness about his game

Your question shouldve been to Haynes why did you say such toot in your interview

  • But it's not positive on the fans is it? How about a report on our attendances compared to other teams in higher leagues in South London ?

Unless it's away support, then we're bang in trouble!
  • You were there NS on tuesday night and most home games i would presume?

Have you heard any booing aimed at BWP?

The use of 'all that' distorts the whole context of what you are saying you were trying to ask.
  • There's an old woman in the West Upper that's always moaning at BWP, calls him lazy, says he walks like a stroppy teenager. I tell her to shut up all the time but she still carries on.

Maybe I should stop taking my Mum along with me!!

Woodward and Bernstein eat your hearts out...

It is as if you have misled with the story tbh,

    which is disapointing imo

Question sounds like there's been lots of it (when in reality there's been next to nothing).

Apparently - So you don't know anything personally (yet write a lot of stories about CAFC and presumably attend games?) just heard a comment from someone else.

Some people - from "all that sort of stick" to "some people".

I like the NS but I'm with the moaners on this one. Crap story and reporting.

it's the "and Booing" bit , that is really annoying and factually wrong.

  • To be fair, isn't it part a journalists job to muck around and see if you can find something news worthy. Looks like the News Shopper has done it. I know its a pants paper and there have been some cretinous football pieces written lately but its not going to change anything other than stirring up a bit of trouble for Haynes, BWP and Powell. On that basis, we know exactly who's side the News Shopper is on - it aint ours, so you might as well clear off NS.
  • Lay off of NS you lot!

Can you really be serious? Haynes has obviously heard the boos as BWP went off Tuesday, mentioned it to another reporter so News Shopper has asked Powell his opinion and shared.

Just another advert for how picky some on here can be at times!
  • I've heard no booing where I sit but then again I'm surrounded by journalists. There have been people mention it to me though and didn't BWP leave Twitter as well?

  • Bexley Dan - no chance of me clearing off I'm afraid.
