I'm surprised no one has mentioned (unless I've missed it) the question of whether we could afford Nike or not? A club in our current plight, although we may well be on the up, is usually lumbered with Hi-tec, Le Coq etc or some foreign brand. If we got Nike to make our kits it would be a pretty big deal, yet people are talking as though it wouldn't be...

Unless I am very much mistaken, it works like the sponsorship, so they pay us to wear the kit, we don't pay them.
The problem is Macron had us as one of their main teams and so we had a place on their website and we got a kit more unique to us, with Nike or Adidas we will get a generic teamwear kit and they won't make it unique to us

Barnsley have a nike kit as did Palace (they may still have). Any team at any level can get a nike kit out of their catalogue (which is what Palace did) It doesn't automatically follow that it is a "big deal" financially or otherwise.
If it is a nike kit, and I'm told it is, then great but West Ham and Leeds (big clubs who sell as lot more shirts than us, Barnsley or Palace) are with Macron. The counter argument is that fans would be more likely to buy a nike kits (debatable) and nike tracksuits etc (likely) but how much extra money would that bring in.
Will be interesting to see, if we ever do, how the numbers stack up. The rationale for going with Joma and Macron was always that they gave us a better deal in terms of fees, percentages and free kit than nike, adidas or umbro would.
That may have changed or there is another angle but getting nike isn't automatically a big deal otherwise Barnsley would be in the Premier League.
Fair enough. I didn't mean 'big deal' as in lots of money, I just meant a big issue. Whichever way it works though, you don't see Nike associating themselves with many teams below the Championship so I would still be surprised if it happened.

We won't be below the Championship for much longer

I know what you mean but Nike are happy to provide kits to lower league clubs but they aren't going to give those clubs any money. Hence smaller clubs go to other providers who give them better deals.
As Ross said even Fulham has a catalogue kit (rather nice though it was).
Hartlepool, Scunthorpe, Bradford, Oxford, Southend all have Nike catalougue kits (below the Championship). None of them are very nice. Numerous non-league teams do as well. It's not seen as a big deal for this reason. Adidas do the same 'catalogue' deal. If we were to get an exclusive design than it would be a fantastic deal but I don't believe this to be the case.
I will be very pleased if it's Nike, as long as it isn't the one with the thick V across the front.
I do find it strange that we would cancel the Macron deal, that was the biggest in he club's history, with two years left if the alternative was going to pay us a lot less?
Excuse me for saying this but does it really matter who makes our kit? From what I've read it doesn't seem like we will be getting any kind of real benefit if it is going to be Nike and we get better deals from the smaller names. Surely the shirt sponsor is what really matters as a barometer of how things are going for us. Now I am going to duck for cover...

I take your point but the truth is how do we know what deal has or will be struck.
I imagine most will buy the shirt regardless of who makes it. We have had some dodgy kits over the years but it doesn't stop fans buying and wearing the shirt if it has a Charlton badge on it and our team are seen wearing it.

Swindon have an Adidas kit BTW

I'll be buying it. Always wanted to see us in a Nike kit.
