Darlington, Scarborough, Aldershot, Newport County et al all had to start again at the bottom of the pyramid and Aldershot are the only one to get back to the league.
All a bit vague and clearly done with an agenda: if on one hand SPL teams are going to lose such a huge percentage of their gate revenue from the massive Rangers support, surely the quid pro quo should be that L3 teams will pick up a massive increase through the turnstyles. It's still irrelevant anyway because the way of dealing with the issue shouldn't be influenced by the financial fall out. It should just be fair.

But in your definition of fair do you address only the immediate issue (I.e punishing Rangers) or do you also look at the effects that the punishment will have.
Either way like I said I fully hope Rangers start in D3, however I'm sure the SFA/SPL/SFL will ensure it's D1 to suit their own financial cause. Where's the "sporting integrity" in that ?
I do like the idea of starting an SPL2 just so one club stays in that league.
The old firm aren't called that for no reason. Their collective money generation, for themselves and the SFA. SFL and now SPL, have been long known and much cherished by all but the other clubs.
So it seems Rangers fans won't get their wish to drop to league 3, other fans will taunt them about this forever but Scottish football will carry on just as before after a slight hiccough.
And the opportunity to reform and strengthen the game up their will be missed.

Everything that is wrong with Scottish football, since the SPL inception is right there. They generate a lot of money for themselves. No-one else. They give as little away as possible, they have the 11-1 voting system in their favour so nothing gets changed in the SPL unless they agree and it benefits them!
Interestingly its all about how Scottish football is knackered without the OF now. Yet when they talked of Atlantic league/epl/leaving scotland. They harped on about how without them it would be a better fairer league...
Also, so far I think 11 sfl clubs have said they wont vote them into div 1.
Outside the big clubs - Celtic and Rangers in particular, the attendances at Scottish football is English league 2 levels and lower.
Its a new club, a rise from Division 3 would benefit all the clubs in the lower divisions with a boost. Rangers would start on a clean slate and could never be accused of getting or asking for any favours. Maybe that's why many of their fans want to start at league 3.

There isn't any. And I don't think it's about punishing Rangers or anyone else. If any team ceased to exist and was re-formed then the best-case scenario for them should be to restart on the bottom rung. In fact I don't believe that a Motherwell would automatically get fast tracked into D3. Gers fans need to get over this thing that only being treated slightly better than any other club is an unreasonable punishment.
This could be a good thing perhaps for the lower leagues of Scottish football. I imagine that Ranger's presence down there may reignite interest and people at local clubs might invest in season tickets to guarantee they get to attend the fixture which will probably sell out and may get back into following their local team which may also benefit from increased exposure and media attention.
Could be the most interesting season for years in whatever league they end up in for a wider audience and if they get televised fixtures then sponsorship within the league could be boosted.
Seems to me that the sfa / spl / sky are effectively blackmailing sfa league clubs by stating if rangers are not voted into league 1 then a new sp2 will be formed, effectively destroying the clubs who are not invited to join.

Pretty much.

The thing is, Scotland actually has phenomenally high attendances - it's just spread over too many clubs. Scotland has a population of 5m and 42 clubs in its professional leagues, England's population is ten times that yet they "only" have twice the number of clubs. Add to this the anomaly that may Junior clubs (sort of equivalent of English non-league) get higher attendances and followings that Division 3 clubs but can't get into the league as there is no promotion to/relegation from Division 3 and the problems increase. Agree that this was a good opportunity to completely restructure Scottish football but I'm certain it's an oppertunity which will be missed again because of petty fighting.
Just back from board presentation at Dumbarton where they made a compelling case for Rangers in Div 1. As Johnny 73 says if vote goes for Div 3, They'll force through SPL2 and invite Rangers anyway! All the part-time teams will be cut adrift in perpetuity. However a Vote for Div 1 will mean a single league structure, more equitable share of money across all clubs and removal of stadium size criteria for moving up leagues.
Kudos to DFC for informing supporters and inviting a vote. They'll vote for self interest (Rangers in Div 1) anyway but it leaves a very sour taste right now.
Can't see a legal basis why newco would have any call over the assets of the artist formerly known as Glasgow Rangers FC. I'm sure the SFA will reflect that they have to look at this, but that nothing is out of lime.
newco seem to want to throw good money after bad, if they don't give up their claims on these players expect restraint of trade lawsuits to start flying very soon.

And if they go in to the Third Division why would you need that quality of player.Third Division you could almost pick random blokes out the pub and be competitive in that league!

The oldco hasnt technically been liquidated yet, neither will it for a while so technically their registration sits with it (even if their contract doesn't).
The whole things a mess and the only way around it is by coming to and agreement similar to the fleck/cov one.
Results of vote on which division due to be announced shortly, BBC reporting that vote has put Rangers in D3. I hope so, but as yet results unconfirmed.
A mess indeed. Can't help believing that Rangers will come out of this debacle a lot stronger as a club and entity. Adversity has a very galvanising effect.

Argumentative Jocks. Whatever next ?
