Scottish football is rangers v Celtic it's without doubt the greatest derby in the world these clubs who voted not to have them in the premier or one may well wish they haven't in a few Seasons when there back .
By 2014 it will be celtic v Bangor City or TNS for the play off for the first round qualifer for the Europa Cup,but a few will be claiming the moral high ground! Sad really when the Scots love their football so much.
It's not the greatest derby in the world and it is only felt to be significant because of religious reasons not footballing ones. They are not called the Old Firm for no reason.
The level of abuse Neil Lennon has got over the last couple of seasons is obscene and I'm sure some Celtic fans would be just as bad .
Rangers deserve to be relegated and treated the same as any other club in Scotland would have been ,otherwise the competition has no integrity .We all know after a season in the First Division they will be back in the SPL
Feel free to add something worth reading to this thread Rothko, or failing that read what's been written on this thread. Watch the video on this BBC link, the fans don't come across as arrogant to me.
Celtic voted against Rangers being in the SPL, obviously they would've regarding of how others were going to vote...
Best derby in the world as Glasgow was attracting huge crowds before football was popular down south.

If Rangers are allowed to stay in the SPL then what happens the next time a Scottish SPL team goes into admin? If they get relegated then they'll rightly claim that they haven't been treated fairly and the lack of a relegation penalty will prevent teams from runing themselves on a sound financial basis and therefore encourage more teams to take risks.
It's also what Neil Doncaster is pushing for. NEWCO offered to withdraw their application as they knew more than 8 (it was 10 in the end) would vote against them and it was pointless but someone told them to go ahead as they still had a chance! The only team to not vote against them (Killy?) abstained!
It will be embarrassing for Scottish football and Rangers fans if Rangers are put in the first division, everyone else would be put in the third.
Motherwell gate receipts last season break down roughly as follows:
31 % Rangers 29 % Celtic 31 % everyone else
If that is representative across the other 10 clubs in the SPL... how many of them can really survive with a third off gate receipts and for how long?
Decision has nothing to do with money. There's a fair chance that with no old firm to glory hunt that a few Motherwellians might actually support their local side, which has to be factored in. Also, a fair number of norther teams (Dundee Utd, Aberdeen, Inverness, St Johnstone see a different distribution anyway with the OF being less important.
Only a tiny minority of Rangers fans wanted to stay in the SPL.
Agreed everyone i know are happy with League 3
I've heard a fair number with this view, and you have to respect it. Better to start again in L3 clean than bundle their way into L1 and be be forever tainted. At the end of the day, it's only 3 years.
Anything else than the third division destroys the integrity of the league. In the short term it will be very difficult for a lot of clubs, but I think Scottish football as a whole will come out stronger for it in the long run.

I don't agree. I agree with your first statement, I think they should be in the third division, if not non-league, but I don't think this can, in any way, be good for Scottish football. Already players are leaving the sinking ship, and there will be fewer opportunities for Scottish players to experience European football. The Scottish National team needs Scottish players to have experience at the highest level. Something they will not get if Celtic are the only team to get past the preliminary rounds.
I also think the SPL needs both the Old Firm teams to make it interesting and competitive. Destroying one of those clubs will not make the league more competitive, it will just make it more competitive for second place, opposed to third place when Celtic and Rangers were virtually guaranteed the top two.
Unfortunately, as bad as this is for Scottish football, it is what it is and Rangers do need to be punished. If Scottish football are going to suffer then the blame has to be put at the hands of those that mismanaged Rangers for so long.
All the Rangers I know and speak to WANT to go to Div 3
Really? Only a few weeks ago Rangers fans on this thread were arguing that it would be wrong to kick them out the SPL.
There is no guarantee that the SFL will even accept Rangers Newco in either the first or third division. Quite possible that they will have to apply for the season after next. Unlikely but then again read back through this thread and it was unlikely that Rangers would not be in the SPL.
Up here what I am sensing is the die hard Rangers fans want Div 3 as they don't want any special treatment cast up in 5,10 20,50 years time allied to the fact that Rangers in the 3rd Div would cause maximum damage to the clubs that they see haven't supported or have stabbed them in the back.Season 2015-16 will be the first oppurtunity to play in the SPL,if the financial facts are to be believed a few more clubs will have gone to the wall by then.
The knock on effects though are already being seen on the small scale that affects the man in the street. Our now only local village pub has done away with Sky as there wont be the Old Firm games next season. With out the Sky less people will use the pub and we may loose the pub.Just one observation in one village in the West of Scotland. The effects are going be felt everywhere up here!
would cause maximum damage to the clubs that they see haven't supported or have stabbed them in the back.............. a few more clubs will have gone to the wall by then.
And it is that attitude that is so arrogant and one sided. No one outside Ibrox stabbed Rangers in the back. This mess is all of their own doing.
Now some of their fans are licking their lips at the prospect of other clubs being dragged down by RFCs wrong-doing as if those other clubs some how deserved it for daring to ask that Rangers play by the rules.
Ritchie, I know you are quoting others so not digging you out.

So relegation is a must. They'll be back.

On the basis of the above Rangers are not unique. Yet the punishment appears to be.

75% want the third division.

people want to see them get 2nd in the prem and make the Champions league draw!
so as for the gate recipts - rangers can keep there dirty money!
SPL will be better without the old firm- better to be poor and happy than rich and evil!
