The problem is Friday night. Clear skies are forecast with temperatures ranging from -4 to -7. These are air temperatures. Charlton were saying that ground temperatures are 2 degrees below this.
So we have ground temp forecasts possibly of between -6 to-9.
On that basis, there's no chance.
Only hope, is that we get some cloud cover & the expected temperatures aren't as bad.
The pitch was deemed playable today by a Premier League official so naturally it was called 'on' for now. It can hardly be called off on the basis it may not be tomorrow. I'm sure Chris Powell will be in favour of this approach. As it stands I expect the game to take place. It's hovering around freezing at the moment.
Get back in that boozer Chambta, thanks for all your help this week

Just a few cans tonight at home! Just done a little boozer-related thread that will hopefully be of some assistance to some of your lads (and lasses).
Seems a few are falling by the wayside at the moment.
After driving for over two hours last season only for the Rochdale game to be called off and actually being in the car park at Walsall when the game was postponed, perhaps some in my group have called it right by not going.
I'll still be heading north tomorrow whatever the weather and just keeping my fingers crossed. Not been to Chesterfield since the Killer special goal at Saltergate back in 1981(?) so am really looking forward to it.

Which hotel? The temperature can vary wildly across the district at this time of year.
I really don't expect it to get that cold tonight and the pitch covers are said to be able to deal with anything up to -5.
Our pitch covers weren't adequate last week & Charlton said that the ground temperature is usually 2 degrees lower than air temps. So in reality, perhaps your covers are only effective up to -3 not -5 ?

Just took the rubbish out. Wheelie bin lid frozen shut. Ice on the drive. Front garden lawn frozen solid. Forecast up there is worse. Not a chance that it will be on.

I've looked at a number of forecasts & the predicted temperatures for Bromley & Chesterfield are virtually identical. On a positive note, the BBC say Bromley is -4 at present, but my car says it -1.5. Also, the big problem is the clear skies, but Chesterfield now appears to have had a bit of unexpected cloud cover, in the last few hours, although it's still expected to be clear skies very soon.

You really are watching things closely? If you send me £100 via Paypal I'll sprint down to the ground, vault the gate and take a temperature reading from the centre circle. Can have it done in a hour ;-)

Hopefully that's a weatherview from Carol Kirkwood and not Michael Fish!

I said you were the best :-) I'm paranoid after having 3 train trips to Rochdale last season & getting half way to Sheff W last month, before the train stopped due to signal problems & had to get off at Leicester & return. Got back to St Pancras at 16.45 having spent all day on trains to no benefit :-(

Don't mention Rochdale.....grrrr.
Did you take chambta up on his offer CE?
Yes, he should be reporting back soon & then I'll know whether to set the alarm or not.
