  • I thought the Cahill one had someone covering whereas there was only grass ahead of Pritchard was it!? Hopefully will be on the FL show but won't hold my breath!
  • Y'know what? Every Saturday I'm glued to my laptop in Kyiv. Managed to get to the Valley for the Brentford game and bought three Charlton shirts for my uncomprehending American colleagues, but it's a pain to be so far from the action. When JJ's goal went in I whooped and looked out at the inconsequential snow which is falling in the mildest winter in Ukraine's recent history. Don't care that we are ignored by the media. Let Sir Chris get on with his job in his unassuming, stylish, understated way and our team continue to gel and quietly we - the Addicks - the only soccer club to give rise to a successful political party - will make our way onwards and upwards. Just hope SCP isn't poached by the Lib Dems.
  • A red wasn't given because of the distance from goal, which may be fair enough if it was Docherty not Pritchard, but who was going to catch him?
  • Northstand, as much a loads of other clubs fans slag Megson, he cannot be faulted for producing a team that gives its all.

If our club had been run correctly off the field, in the last decade, our starting point would enable us to be more pleasing on the eye, but if we get out of this league using what Megson knows , I`ll be happy. After all he learned his trade under Wilkinson not Clough.
  • just got back from the game, have to say what an afternoon absolutley loved it. Thought we started of slow and the goal was our first shot i think, and what a goal that was. Second half defended well but every corner or set peice they looked like scoring, could have added 2 more with BWP and Clarke, who I have to say is the unfittest professional footballer ive ever seen. Have to say well done Pritchard really think he has bags of potential. The team at the end celebrated like we'd won the league!! Good support again from us alot more than i thought would be there and it kicked of just as i was coming out the ground but thats northerners for you! Buzzing right now hope every charlton fan right now is feeling very proud.
  • Pretty sure there was another weds player close to the play who would have come across.

Anyway, let's stop being so charltonlife and arguing about irrelevant details....3 points are ours! The only rubbish thing is I've still for 2 hours on the train.
  • To call for a penalty is typical clutching at straws - predicted the way the game would go and the Wednesday sour grapes comments yesterday! - you could call me nostradamus if it wasn't for the fact I called if 2-0!. Anybody who understands football will know we deserved to win that game- Wednesday lacked any real finesse or style and had no real ideas. The just tried to use their physical attributes which we handled well. Yes they had chances- course they would have chances but our chances were better. The tactic change was to put more big lumps on which isn't really what the beautiful game is about.

We did waste time a little -nothing too overt- but we had a game plan to deal with the way they play and we could play that game 5 times and we would win 4 of them. If Wednesday fans don't understand that they don't understand football. We didn't play as much football as we can but the football that was played during the game was played by us and we were right to be a bit more cautious as Wednesday didn't have the ability/nous to break us down.

Thought the whole team was excellent - Special mention must go to Solly who matched up against what looked like their best player who I thought fancied it and you wondered who is going to win that battle- well that Solly bloke has reserves of determination and won that battle- but why should I be surprised. Pritchard got more into the game as it went on and was so busy but also a great little player -btw, it doesn't matter where the block was - he would have had a one on one with Weaver so it was a red. Kermogant was brilliant and BWP showed class and work rate and the goal that sets him off again is mighty close- was unlucky Weaver pulled off a great save from him but that's the way it is going at the moment.

Morrison got stick and initially looked like he might be uncharacteristically wobbly but again stupid to think he wouldn't be his commanding self. Really I'm trying to pick players out but will end up naming them all - I mean Hamer was excellent, Wiggins put in a Wiggins performance and we all know what that means (top drawer), Holland worked his socks off, Kermogant was a constant nuisance to them (How did we get this bloke for free? -what a find Sir Chris), and as for JJ -class finish - Premiership class. I have mentioned everybody bar Green who was pretty decent oh and Taylor- the sort of player you don't mention as much as you should but who always does what needs to be done. WIll give player marks tomorrow as my MOTM keeps changing.

Great post - intelligent and insightful.
  • hope everyone got home safe and sound
  • Mutley I have seen enough of your posts on here to discount , your outspoken tinted views.

Goals change games and yours came at just the right time for you and your game plan. It being your first attempt on goal.Had one of our chances gone in, your four out of five game rubbish would have gone to the wall.

Most of your chances came late in the game as we changed our shape and pattern to force an equaliser, to use your comments any body who knows football will know that.

As I said , congratulations on the win , think you will win the league.

Perhaps you have been watching Morrisons actions at the end of the game and hence your lack of class.

  • What makes me laugh about Wednesday fans complaining about our time wasting is the fact that we took Green off and he walked the entire width of the pitch whilst clapping our fans.....cue boos from their lot.

3 minutes later, they take Marshall off and he takes about 10 minutes to walk off the pitch!

To be fair, Netherton you make complete sense there fella!

  • Just got in and I'm still absolutely buzzing. Had one of the best away days for a while with some top lads.
    That hurts

  • Although Netherton you cant give Morrison stick for his 'classless' celebration!Heat of the moment, just like Megson turning round to Powell to call him a 'c**t'! Now that is classless!
  • Bit different given it was his last game!
  • I couldn't care less, he could have done that at the end of the game!He was still wasting your own time!
  • And you know thats what Megson said because?

What an absolutely fantastic away game. Hillsborough is a proper football ground that creates a proper atmosphere and it showed. When those Wednesday fans roar, you bloody hear it. That being said, our fans were great today - decent pro-Charlton songs that just spurred the team on to a fantastic result.

We started the game nervously, especially at the back but once we realised that their game plan was more rugby than football (aim for the touchline and get a corner/long throw) then we dealt with everything. Hamer was committed in coming and punching and the two centre backs dealt superbly with two very difficult strikers. Solly and Wiggins will be our Championship full backs next year and they will be the best in that league as well - they are rirdiculously too good for League One.

Our midfield was much better than theres - Hollands and Pritchard (in particular), were immense and harried to get the ball back quickly and when it was won they didn't panic but picked the right pass and started an attack. Pritchard has got to be in dreamland, playing in non-league and now pretty much guaranteeing his place in the team more and more with every game he plays. He was brilliant. Jackson's free kick was sublime and Michael Morrison flashed one across the goal in the first half. BWP was causing untold problems for their laboured defence by stretching them and playing the channels very well indeed. Yann was Yann.

In the second half, I thought we'd rue Weaver after he saved really well from Bradley and we drilled a couple across the face of the goal that nobody quite reached. Looked ominous. Then they went crazy, just played 5 up top and were laucnhing bombs into the box all the time but we were superb in dealing with everything, just superb. Probably should've sealed it late on with some better decision making but who cares. Clarke will be a very good acquisition I think, some very neat hold up play and very clever touches.

This is what champions really are made of.

The team at the end were genuinely thrilled with the performance, double fist pumps from Jacko, dancing from Pritchard, leaping from Hamer. Loved it.

Feel sorry for the train lot, but hopefully the result makes up for it slightly.
  • Clinton Morrison "gave it some" in front of the North Stand when he scored at the Valley, must be a "Morrison" thing
  • Great, travelled up with a Wednesday ST holder who thought we did a great job on them. Great performance again, magic from Jacko, showing the class.

On Morrison, my SWFC mate was of the view, that if the Kop was dishing it out, it should take a little back.
  • Because i bumped into our head of sports science at Sheffield station who was on my train journey to Manchester for the weekend mate!

  • Think you are year ahead of us, but happy with the progress we have made, this time last year we could have gone to the wall.
Please don't forget that up to Jan 2011, we were very much in danger of going bust.

Last season after CP took over other than the first five games, we had an atrocious time.

CP has gone out and signed a new team. Today only Jackson, Solly and BWP remain from last season. Solly wasn't first pick either and BWP joined in January.

What CP has done is nothing short of astonishing. I don't think any of us would have imagined being on 57 points after 25 games including 10 away wins!

  • Wednesday are a good side but created very little and could not keep the ball for long enough to create many chances. The fact is they were nullified both on the wing especially by Solly and by Morrison and Taylor and of course Wiggins and when we had the ball we tended to keep it more (except for a mad five minutes at the end when we kept giving it back to them) This was the real difference between the teams; we can pass and keep the ball better than Wednesday. That is not to say they were brilliant today but in such an arena they were certainly heroes.

    lol.
You're beginning to let yourself down now netherton.
Muttley is probably one of the most objective observers on here.
Why don't you take yourself off to bed now nethers old chap? It's been a long day and, for you, a pointless one :)

  • Brilliant day And a cracking display from both teams. Thought bwp put i'n a very good shift just needs a goal badly. The two centre MIds superb and thedefence was what it's been all season. Think Wednesday were dirty and cynical but certainly got it forward quick and posed u's a few problems. Superb stuff...... We are going up
  • Thank you for the defence but to be fair I do think I have been more critical of Wednesday than most so you can understand him thinking how he does. The thing is, I just don't rate them at all - honestly - so if you look at my posts about them you may think I'm not objective. Idon't think today proved me wrong either. They are a big physical team and that for me is about it.
  • WSS, Our roar was almost non existant today, You should have been at the Hudds game.

Very fair post on the whole, but the rugby bit.Our wide players were a long way short of our recent standards, and therefore dont think we really tested you , as I hoped we would.

Yeah, the roar was more at individual decisions/moments rather than consistent but I think that's due to us not allowing you to play. Can imagine it's quite the atmosphere in the massive games.

  • That High ho Siver Lining at the start of each half is a bit embarrassing though.
  • Think your wide players came up against the best 2 full backs in the league unfortunately for you - you needed some other options but being the most direct team I have seen -that is your game.
  • Thats why I love the old girl, you can shove the breeze block bowls they build these days.
