  • Brilliant, brilliant result.

The Match Thread was torture mixed with some real LOL comedy.

Chaps, we have won absolutely nothing yet. Results go against us next week we are back where we were. So do everyone a favour, stay off Owlstalk, keep the gloats under wraps, and lets just carry on going about our business.

Once again, our back five sounded like they did a superb job.
Absolutely spot on AFKA! Nothing is won in January!

    One aim!
spot on but another important 3 points won. The squad is looking stronger and stronger, we've had a minor blip and coped, we've lost key players in Stephens and JJ but coped, we've gone away to both Sheffield clubs and MK Dons and coped.

One very happy Addick here in Bromley. Onwards and upwards.
  • Anyone got a photo or video of when team celebrated in front of our fans?
  • WHAT A WIN!
  • Yes, but how many did we take away, you do relise that unless we had over 3,500 the result does not count and we don't get the three points. Its not about how Massive your team is its about your support. So us having a MASSIVE FOOKING team is irrelevant. This obviously only applies in the same world as the Huddersfield Record another bubble we burst !!! Next up the Big form team from Sheffield. Lets gloat for the week, because they would have COYR !!!
  • Anyone got a photo or video of when team celebrated in front of our fans?
They said on the radio that Powell came out three times to celebrate.
  • 4 points clear, game in hand, squad back to full fitness, money to strengthen further, people like haynes, waggy, evina, hayes all waiting in the wings, first time in many years i can't complain about a single thing to do with the club, even the hot dogs are ok!
  • Ya Dancer!!! Thats all I have to say abiut that

He didn't. He did stay out longer than the players tho. Took his time walking off the pitch and rightly so. Ledge.

Most Sheffield Wednesday fans are decent, as are ours...however for their fans who look down on us (as in Charlton are a tin pot club) they will attract hostility.
I think the elephants in the Sheffield Wednesday changing room are 'is Megson really the one?', (llera...really?)and Mandaric and his court date later this month. I can't help thinking that Wednesday are indulging in a bout of self-hypnosis.

  • Not there I'm sorry to say. Can someone comment on the reaction of the players after the final whistle. How big did they rate this one ?

To say they were over the moon is an understatement. Lots of hugs and a bit of dancing from Pritchard. They stayed for about 5 mins after clapping and our fans were at full voice.

Love this group of players and staff. We got our charlton back.
  • Just got in (go to uni in Sheffield).

Great win. Nervy at times, but thoroughly deserved. Had we had more conviction in front of goal, could easily have been more. Few good stops from Hamer prevented a couple of good opportunities for them, but we edged it. None of the ex-players threatened, and Semedo could quite easily have been sent off for upending Clarke who would have been through on goal, but was only given a yellow. Some lovely football towards the end down the left side. Solly was my man of the match, he was solid. All in all, a great day. On the bus back, overheard one of their fans saying "top of the league, they deserved it".
  • Had to pop out to get some vino for tonight...switched on the radio and CP was being interviewed live on Radio 5....he sounded his usual self....calmness personified and spoke very highly of todays performance....but said 21 games to go....nothing won yet....just concentrating now on next weeks game against Sheff Utd.....spoke a lot about JJ and said his fk would have graced any Premier league player scoring from a fk.....he just said he will get on about his business of getting this club back........a very good interview from a humble man who has nothing but ambition for CAFC.....well done CP.
  • And yes, the reaction of the players was superb at the end of the game, all looked overjoyed and applauded the fans. In stark contrast to the Wednesday players, many of whom were kneeling down dejected - was a lovely sight.
  • With Ooohahhh (again). Didn't see this happening at all. Would have run for the hills with it in a brown paper bag if I was offered a point before kick off.

Great result and the more the season progresses the more we are resembling Norwich when they won the league a couple of seasons ago.

Loads of work still to do. If I remember rightly, a lot of the teams aroud us are now going to start playing each other and that can only work in our favour. Wish I'd broken the bank (wife) and gone now, but having said that I'd probably have been on the 10.25 so wouldn't have got there anyway!.
  • Not there I'm sorry to say. Can someone comment on the reaction of the players after the final whistle. How big did they rate this one ?
Ben Hamer saying its a great result on twitter and praising the support.
  • I love the fact that we have three (Yann, JJ, Greeny) or even four (Stephens) excellent set-piece takers...makes us incredibly dangerous from anywhere in the opposition half.
  • Would like to see comments from anyone at the game about our apparent time wasting and cheating.
  • Also just got in. It was so cold today. Wore my shirt till half time then wimped out and put my coat on. What a fantastic result and great alround performance against the MASSIVE owls. So chuffed. I've now seen Charlton win every game i've been to this season. That is most definately a first. Live in Hillsborough and next door neighbour is an Owl, lol. Don't know what the wendies were talking about saying that we'd see a different team to the cloggers we saw in september. they were far worsetoday. it was a bunch of brawlers in football shirts. respect to CP for sticking to our game plan of passing to feet (mostly). we took the piss at times and showed them that we are quality where it matters. On 'PRAISE OR GRUMBLE' - Radio Sheffield after the game wendies were coming on a saying that charlton arent the best team thevye seen at hillsborough this season. Well we may not be but we are the only team that have won. Well done to CP and the boys. Have a great journey home all you travellers. The reds are going up!!!

    LOL

I see even Clem is becoming positive.

I also nearly went today but my son didn't get up in time , I considered going on the later trains but glad I didn't bother now because to not get there would have soo frustrating . I really feel sorry for all those who got caught up in the delays .

On to the Football we have exceeded my wildest dreams this season SCP is proving himself to be a great manager . Good coverage on Player Scowcroft summarised very well .

Onwards and upwards . One aim .
  • Lifted from our friends on OwlsTalk. Christ, people in glasshouses and all that.....particularly like the "anti-football" line from a fan of a team managed by Gary Megson.

    Overall -

Very frustrating game. Charlton fans and their manager will claim it was a perfect away performance. And it was. But fook me, if ever there was a side that epitomised anti-football, it was them. Time wasting from the 10th minute, diving and chucking themselves on the floor at every opportunity, and essentially reffed the game. I think we are too honest to be honest. With the likes of Johnson, Jones, Batth, O'Grady, Madine, they just get on with it, and we get nothing for it.

Charlton came with a game plan, and the only moment of quality in the game, ensured they went home with the points. I think we went too direct, and didn't get Marshall or Jones on the ball enough. When you play that sort of game, you are relying on a bit of luck in the penalty box, and we simply got nothing today. It wasn't our day today, but it wasn't a terrible performance, and you can't say we deserved to lose the game. We didn't do enough to win it either. Time to regroup, and get back on track. Hopefully we can look back at the end of the season and see it as a blip or a turning point, rather than a definitive moment in the season. Time will tell.

best game, best performance of the season .. disciplined, organised, brave, resilient and WHAT a free kick from Jackson.. see y'all at Chesterfield .. forgot to mention Pritchard ... pound for pound the signing of the last few seasons .. where HAS he been ?
  • Outstanding result. I'm full of admiration for this team. Again they have proved that they have the bottle, as well as the quality, to get out of this league.
Respect to all those who made the journey - it must have been a fantastic feeling at the final whistle. Really feel for those fans who got stuck on the train(s).
    Can't wait for next Saturday!

I love all these teams supporters who can't believe we're top, aren't the best team in the league as we didn't play that well against them. Do they not realise it's not just about playing our game but preventing them from playing theirs? If that means not playing the kind of stuff we did for the few weeks after the Stevenage loss then so be it. Who cares if we wasn't the best team seen at Hillsborough, we're the best team in the league & that's a fact :)
  • Total approximate hours spent on a train today - 7.5

Total minutes of football seen - 0

Points won from the unbeaten-at-home Sheff Wed - 3

Yup, I'll take that - fair deal.
  • Buzzing.

Sheffield wed were a typical smegson team. Hoof hoof hoof from the 1st minute.

We played some decent stuff at times and defended brilliantly against there big oafs.

Solly had there best player in his pocket. Wiggy and Jackson class once again. Pritch quality and big yann still managed to win headers when he needed to.

Now off out for a few shandys with valley gary

32 billion to be spent on a supertrack ? .. the morons who supposedly are in charge in this country need to get their priorities right and to fix what needs fixing NOW.... the delays and vandalism on the railway network are a disgrace .. fix it so that any potential cable thief gets 20,000 volts up his jacksie .. that'll sort out the buggers
  • Awesome peformance, incredibly professional and could have won by 2 or 3 had we been slightly more clinical. Bwp, despite not scoring was excellent and morro and taylor,
apart from 1 or 2 times in the first half were rock solid. Hamer made a few good saves and played well, but where he really excels is his distribution. If its not a quick ball, then he pings it to yann EVERY TIME. It's an excellent asset and puts the opposition on the back foot immediately.

With regards to the timewasting, I did notice it, but it wasn't ott. Note the card happy ref didn't book any of our players for it.

On phone, excuse the wall of text.

    COYR!
