  • To their credit Carlisle made a game of it but we were quite comfortable winners in the end, despite only being one nil till the dying moments.

Should have had one or two more.

Yet again one of those games we would have drawn or lost in the last couple of seasons but have now discovered how to win.

can't believe for a minute there was booing for solly wiggins and waggy madness if so
I was in the covered end lower - there was a patch of booing towards the end of the first half and a few bits of abuse e.g. Solly missed a tackle and some bloke shouts "Solly you're shit" and so on, just like the old days (alright, two years ago!). Made me laugh in a grim sort of way - of all the players to slag off!
Do I smell a wind up Hovis!
  • Out of the reserve players...Hayes was dreadful today...barely got off the ground to compete with their defenders and tried far too many flash things rather than keeping it simple (shame because he can be good). Wagstaff was awful in the first half and much better in the 2nd. Evina was mainly very rusty and didn't look comfortable at left mid until late on. Cort got into it and was a real threat from set pieces. Pritchard was superb....passed really well and tackled when he had to. Reckon he may have booked a place on the bench for league games with that performance.

The game was unwatchable in the first half and pretty good in the second. It was good to be able to bring on two forwards as good as BWP & Kermogant.
  • After a worrying start....Oh no, that was me ! Approached the East Stand turnstiles with season ticket books in hand when Mr F asked why I had them with me...DOH ! Cup tickets were residing at home in the warm...So, another tenner spent to gain entrance & then down to our usual seats in Block E .

Thought SCP had the team selection just right - sprinkling of first team regulars with fringe players making up the matchday squad. And, after a frustrating/slightly boring first 45, it worked, and our superiority shone through.

    Solly or Pritchard my MOM.

Is he really called Mr Fanackapan ....?
  • Sorry Henry but I thought Hayes was dreadful. Hardly won a header, no physical presence and gave the ball away continually. I hope January brings another striker because PH on that showing won't fire us to promotion.
  • As has been said before, 1st half was poor but much improved in the second. Only negative was Hayes performance. He was damn frustrating at times. Gave the ball away too much when in decent positions.

Replacements Pritchard, Cort, Evina and Sullivan all did well. Sullivan pulled off some great saves, Pritchard tackled hard and passed the ball about well and Cort was a rock in the defence. Glad to see Euell get his goal after a lovely cross from Kermorgant. We also had plenty of chances to win this by a bigger margin and Carlisle had some decent chances.

Can't wait for the third round draw now. Bring em all on!

Are you doubting me, Oggy ?

    Freddie & Fanny Fanackapan .

  • A few comments spot on, but a few strange ones here as well. First half was a non-event, but we stepped up in the 2nd and did what was needed. Pritchard looked very comfortable in the middle, composed and some good touches/passes. Some good tackling as well, one just throwing his whole body in the way.

Like Stevenage, Cort won just about everything in the air. Solly had yet another good game and Wiggins also, with one clearance off the line.

Evina did well and Green put some great crosses in, but Waggy and Hayes didn't really work. Sullivan was commanding (loud!), one very good save.

Didn't hear any of the booing mentioned above. Liked the way Chris makes his subs and takes time to put his arm around everyone coming off and congratulating them on their effort.

Guinness - Loy came off again, seems to work well from the left hand side, but perhaps a little subdued after being hit with an assault charge this week.

Overall, a comfortable win and nice to see Jason's effort cross the line...eventually!! ;-)

No wind up, just for the first half the atmosphere seemed more negative than league games. In the end the result went our way so no big deal over all, but it was just a bit frustrating at times.

Nigels in the 3rd round anyone?

  • Drab first half, but raised the game two fold 2nd half, and got a deserved win. Good performances from Cort, Pritchard and Evina.
  • Cort and Pritchard did well and Green was always a threat. V poor first half but we stepped it up in the second. Wagstaff was poor and I thought Hayes was okay despite the stick he got.
  • good result, the dream is on bloodnut
  • who did Waggy give his shirt to at the end of the game. A parting shot ?. On leaving the house this morning my son Northstandjoe told his mum he was going to have a bet today. He then chose Morrison at 28-1 for first goalscorer with his £1. GET IN
  • Job done, generally poor first half and improved in the second. Seemed a lot of poor touches and passes in the first half, especially from Hayes, Waggy and Evina. Sometimes they had the right idea and it just wasn't coming off. I'm sure they all know they can do better than that.

A few partnerships just didn't really work. Waggy and Hayes being one, we've seen Waggy do a job up front or behind a striker. I'd say he needs someone more powerful alongside, such as Kermorgant rather than Hayes. Evina and Wiggins the other, as Clem said they are too similar.

Cort was pretty solid but Doherty-like on the ball, just not comfortable with it. Do enjoy seeing a centre back in Morrison that is composed on the ball (and a good defender as well of course).

Solly was good especially defensively. Sullivan made some good and important saves.

Can't remember much of Pritchard in the first half, had a pretty good second half. Certainly want to see him on the bench over Euell, gets tackles in, looks comfortable on the ball and has plenty of energy.
  • Post match, SCP said about Chris Solly. 'He's some player, that young man.' Ain't that the truth! I'm disappointed for Waggy who just doesn't seem to be able to step his game up. Pritchard did well and I thought that Cort grew in confidence as the the game progressed.

Match didn't exactly set the pulses racing, we've been a bit spoilt maybe, but it gave some other squad players a look in and hopefully that will help to keep the togetherness spirit and drive going. I'd expected the turnout to be higher, so that was a bit disappointing but another win, another clean sheet and no return trip to Carlisle,

Didn't realise it was Waggy's shirt, but I was right behind the Carlisle dug-out and one of their lads came over at the end of the game with one of our shirts (he hadn't swapped, still wearing his own) and handed it to a girl in the front row. Nice touch, he must have been asked and sought Waggy out to get it for her.

The Carlisle 17 took it from Waggy at full-time, ran over to the girl after she was hit full on the bonce by a wayward practice ball at half-time. He/ they obviously felt guilty. There was some commotion at half time, and a steward went over, but i only saw this from the East stand.  On the final whistle i thought he'd just tricked Waggy for his shirt and ran off. Then it became clearer. Quick thinking by the lad and a really nice touch.  I assume the young fan was ok as she'd stayed through the second half. Reminded me of Kermogant at Sheff Utd, who tried to do the same thing at full-time with one of our fans he'd hit with a ball at half-time.

sat in the west lower and had this really weird old couple about 75 years old with their daughter next to me , the old fella would slag everything we did off and as soon as the old woman did he'd tell her to be quiet , it was comical and he lost his rag telling her to be quiet he got up and left after 55 mins ... bizarre!

421 carlisle is an impressive turnout

chuff game and some chuff performances as well

we're not in the 1980s the fa cup is not what it once was and the gate says it all when compared to what we get for league fixtures

  • 3 wins out of three for me, so Im happy......wasnt a fluid performance today, but it was still good to be back at the Valley.

I fly back to Oz in the morning and will miss a proper game of football......

  • Tel I lost your number, glad you have had a fruitful stay, take care have a good xmas, text me your mobile in oz mate.
  • Defence was solid as ever although Cort was a bit ponderous and will not oust Taylor on this form. Sullivan was excellent between the posts and will keep Hamer on his toes.  I was impressed with Pritchard.  Got tackles in and his passing, both short and long, was usually on target.  He will feature in the league games to come.
The weakness was up front. In the first half neither Hayes nor Waggy got control of the ball so it came straight back. Hayes improved after the break but I thought Waggy had a poor game - plenty of running but little meaningful contribution.  Solly? Superb.  If someone really did say 'Solly you're shit' he ought to take his medication and lie down in a darkened room until the fever passes.

Is there a better midfielder than Hollands in this division?  If so I have yet to see him.  I recall one time he got caught but it was the rarity that stuck in my mind.  Not a great performance overall by the team but 2-0 and into the third round - I'll accept that.
  • I thought Kermorgants cross was so good that no matter how hard he tried Jase couldn't miss.
  • Game may not be as good as some we have seen recently, but certainly better than a lot I have witnessed over the past couple of years and a win is a win.

My MOM goes to Bradley Pritchard - wouldn't believe he was playing non league football last season and showed some great touches as well as some great tackling. Mentions must also go to Wiggy,Solly & Cort..

Didn't think the partnership of Hayes & Waggy worked and I am still not convinced Waggy can play up front............neither have any presence and we suffered because of it. Time for CP to think again and another striker is a must come Jan.

Good flight back mate, enjoy Xmas
  • First half was not great but whatever Powell said at half time did the trick. We march on. Not read all the comments above but just wanted to say it was a great day out and to cap it all our son got Kermorgant's autograph on his shirt.
  • My little brother got the whole teams autograph on the program.
    Fair play.
  • First half was awful we never got going, only player that performed was Solly who ins winning me over with each match. Disagree with SHG I thought Hayes was ok, but what was proved in this game is that we have little depth up front and this needs to be addressed in the January window.

Solly gets my MOM for a full 90 minutes, whereas Pritchard did exceptionally well for the second 45.  I was worried that Pritchard would have two things against him - too small getting knocked about and the adrenalin rush he had at being at this level would have worn off after the injury, but he was full of running good passing and was unlucky not to score.

Most people claim to be annoye by the bloke behind them, I had the posh kids behind me who talked about "Latin" "The sky at night" "How many hankys one used in a day when they had a cold" " the number of toilets they threw up in when they had some gastric disease" Thank god for the second half.
