People who diss Stevenage and Tranmere are missing the point. It's us who played badly in both games. What little (very little) football was on display came from them. Of course we are going to lose games and, yes, we are still top, but it is the performances that are the worrying thing.
Actually, the point is that Stevenage and Tranmere imposed themselves on Charlton, stopping us playing our normal game.
So now teams know that if you get in Charlton's faces, we'll not be able to play our passing game, and will resort to longball - meat and drink for their defences.
Agree with what Clem says when about changing players to cope with them. Get the feeling CP has made a few changes just for the sake of it (if it ain't broke...) still don't understand dropping Solly who I think has been our best player this season.
Hayes is an unsung hero and never wanted him dropped in the first place (although Kermy scoring 2 deserved his chance and he does quite alot in the air)
2 teams have come in roughed us up a bit and we haven't dealt with it, other teams will note that and we have to deal with it.
Although saying that Tranmeres and the goal today both came from huge deflections
I understand why Solly was dropped but as mentioned above maybe Francis would have been a better bet . My criticism of Morrison was that he offered nothing going forward on the wing to support Green. That said I thought Cort played very well . The defence was not the major issue today.
On the left side I called the Evina for Stephens substitution at half time and felt SCP should have made this change at least 15 minutes earlier . Is Cedric going to be our left sided impact sub ?
If we'd kept that "winning" team we'd have lost against mk dons but green and kermy saved that game So I can understand where powelly was coming with them changes cos waggy was becoming ineffective and kermy had produced and we did remain undefeated and I'm all for pro active rather than reactive Kermy won everything in the air today but hayes links the midfield and that has become apparent Waggy touched the ball once in his non existant cameo today and as wank as green was he did put a couple of decent balls in Morrison is not a right back and hamer had a flap at a ball in the air and the ball on the deck which was pathetic but he did make a good stop as well Stephens and hollands were non existant and I thought BWP worked hard and was a little unlucky today but you've gotta hit the target Unfortunately we're in a rut and for SCP to drop solly today was lunacy because he has been awesome this season But to me there feels a general malaise spreading thru us atm and it needs to lift quick or we could become just a play off contender Didn't hear any boooos today and we lost , so maybe our fans missed a trick there Anyway can't believe the turnaround from recent optimism but with only one auto position available (huddersfield are this years certs ala brighton, soton , leeds , norwich) I see us as 15% autos 70% play offs and 15% chance of being back in stevenage next year Nervous times
Cort needs games, so do Green and Evina, as I think all of them are going to do some good business for us this year. They need to find their feet in this team.
WTF one loss against a dirty bunch of commuters. Onward and upward.
Surprised that Wagstaff and Hayes were dropped last week, Kermogant and Green haven't nailed their opportunity and consequently should be swopped.
I felt sorry for Morrison he is not a right back and Taylor had a poorer game consequently. By dropping Solly we gave a message to Stevenage we are bothered about you.....why .....we are the team at the top.
And as for Stephens and Hollands going missing..... Ask why Hamer goes long every time with his distribution thus by passing our potential playmakers
I think it makes sense to go back to the team that did so well. Green and kermit are more impact players i think and as for dropping Solly , that just not right.
Bad day at the office for powell. Terrible decision to not play with a right back we have four at the club. Warning signs have been coming at the Tranmere and Scunny games. Lots of sour grapes in here. They were an OK side that played it about reasonably and did what they had to against a team with more resources. The Lino on the west side was a fucking disgrace. You see some terrible performances, but I presume that he had to be cheating, it was one ridiculous decision after another.
Just on train home now, and its just started to kick in how disappointing today was.
A good day out with good mates spoiled only by the time I entered a turnstile and walked through an exit two hours later. Sad thing is that's about the 50th time that has happened in The last five years.
A bad day at the office for 1700 travelling fans who were more than embarrassed by that performance. There is certainly a worry that CP has tinkered with the side to much and he needs to make one change at a time to see if they are successfull rather than change totally the way we play as happened today. For the life of me I could see no reason to: 1 bring in Cort who is probably still jet lagged into centre of defence. This broke up the partnership that Taylor and Morrison had developed for no reason at all. 2 Move Morrison to right back when Solly has almost been the player of the season so far and was fit but no played 3 After last week's experiment with Green had failed he did not rectify it and put Waggy back on the right wing. 4 The subs brought in more change in the form of Evina rather than players like Solly who were instrumental to our early season.
So after the experiment with Kermorgant had worked at MK and Sheffield CP got bolder and thought he could do more tinkering and started where it was not needed. He failed to rectify a mistake and then compounded it with two others before kick off.
When in treachorous territory do not vear from the proven solid path. Short cuts may be on unstable ground.
So for the next match back to the team and subs that lined up at SheffU please. I do not disagree that the Hayes/Kermit swap may have worked and if we look like holding the opposition I would like to see that tried again. But get one chnage working in a stable team before you make others.
By the way the yellow flag lino did not appear fit and was behind play a lot of the time, gave off side decisions against BWP when he was clearly on side and on kick racism out of sport day appeared to unfairly pick on the lad from Lewisham in favour of the big lumps of defenders who were using him as a football or wrestling practice. His decision on the corner when Cort clearly saw the ball out of play was a complete mystery as well, If any part of Cort had touched the ball as it went over the line it was his upper body as he was pushed over by the Stevenage player and therefore a foul should have been indicated he was "catching up" with play as the ball crossed the line. I was closer than him to that and definitely did not see Cort touch the ball. The referee waving play on when a hand ball had clearly been committed in the middle of the park to bring theball under control (onto his chest and rolling down his left arm) annoyed as did many of his rather strange decisions but refs at this level are poor and we have to come to terms with that. Kermit nearly lost the plot with the ref at half time and was vindictively penalised in the second half for protesting.
Back to the original designs please not the drawing board.
Total kak today sorry CP but this is at ur door step. Rubbish selection 90 mins of total kak and subs that made little sence or were to late
last 3/4 games we looked shit and we were.
Green -------------------really a top player ? i-havnt seen it unless u mean against us TONY TOWNER anyone ?
CP " i wont change a winning team" wot unless you do and they are shit. ?
As for the supper hero midfield guy (stephens) do fk off ---------------i remember on here how people wanked them selves to death over Motokill after two games ------------ its another smoke screen he has done nothing for the last 5 games and counting.
Sick to death of seeing shit sub standard CAFC teams ----chink of light and we all fall for it time and again.
SB were a none league outfit in a non league ground with non league stewards and a non league team -----------THEY BEAT US and it wasnt luck we didnt deserve to get anything.
all who didnt go today well done you had a result.
Since my son has been born I've thought about how old would he be when I took him to a game. Today made my decision that I wouldn't take him away for a long time. To be honest and I'm seriously considering whether to go myself again.
sorry may have totally missed the point here but are we saying the man of the season was dropped today ? SOLLY id like to understand the thinking here---------------would it have meant we won the game ? i doubt it---------- but id love to attempt to understand the thinking behind it.
have to say tho im not that interested in understanding why we were shit ------------ just so god dam sick of seeing it--------------- yes top of the league ---- please do tell me we are truely the best team in this shit league? i wont to beleive.
Since my son has been born I've thought about how old would he be when I took him to a game. Today made my decision that I wouldn't take him away for a long time. To be honest and I'm seriously considering whether to go myself again.
I'm just glad i didnt take either of mine .That would have put them off for life and i'm not talking about the football.
My 5 year old made his away debut and he enjoyed it , pizza hut and Toys r Us afterwards (bribery) but the footy wasn't exciting enough to keep him gripped Luckily where I sat there was no trouble or agg near enough for him to notice Its rare to be full at a charlton away game so maybe best to bring kids to one of the other 95% of non new stadiums where there's plenty of room to move away if you end up near a freak show
As said above how difficult is it to sit in your seat when it's just a straight A -M(ish) row and seat no.1-130ish .....no different blocks or anything
The bubble had to burst some time and in typical Charlton fashion it was done by a team of no hope who will probably not win many other games this season. As i say typical Charlton we beat the good sides and lose to the poor ones. I'm sure i can recall Swindon who were rock bottom at the time beating us 1-0 at home to end another good run of results.
Never mind chin up everyone this is still the best start to any season in the club's history. Onwards and upwards
Since my son has been born I've thought about how old would he be when I took him to a game. Today made my decision that I wouldn't take him away for a long time. To be honest and I'm seriously considering whether to go myself again.
I think the unbeaten run was becoming a burden. Every week Powell would be saying how great it is to be unbeaten, putting pressure on the players to keep it going. Subsequently performance dropped.
Hopefully now we can start playing with a bit more freedom with no records to contend with.

Time now for Charlton to impose on opponents.

Let's hope we bounce back next week.
So I can understand where powelly was coming with them changes cos waggy was becoming ineffective and kermy had produced and we did remain undefeated and I'm all for pro active rather than reactive
Kermy won everything in the air today but hayes links the midfield and that has become apparent
Waggy touched the ball once in his non existant cameo today and as wank as green was he did put a couple of decent balls in
Morrison is not a right back and hamer had a flap at a ball in the air and the ball on the deck which was pathetic but he did make a good stop as well
Stephens and hollands were non existant and I thought BWP worked hard and was a little unlucky today but you've gotta hit the target
Unfortunately we're in a rut and for SCP to drop solly today was lunacy because he has been awesome this season
But to me there feels a general malaise spreading thru us atm and it needs to lift quick or we could become just a play off contender
Didn't hear any boooos today and we lost , so maybe our fans missed a trick there
Anyway can't believe the turnaround from recent optimism but with only one auto position available (huddersfield are this years certs ala brighton, soton , leeds , norwich) I see us as 15% autos 70% play offs and 15% chance of being back in stevenage next year

Disappointed but not desperate
I blame Curbs.
He let Stacy Long and Lawrie Wilson go after all
:-)
