  • Will probably become the norm, people just trying to kick us of the pitch.
    Our lot cant handle it.

with regards to solly being small in the other thread, hasnt affected him all season, hes been one of our best players despite his height, stick with him, cant drop him everytime play a big team, hes one of our reasons weve done well

  • They got a lucky deflection for their goal but overall we were outmuscled by them just like last week, when that happens we don't play our game.

Don't know why Solly was dropped unless injured, Green doesn't impress enough. Kermy won headers but I still like Hayes link up play.

Have to learn to deal with teams closing us and kicking us off the pitch.
  • I'm so angry

Just for the record WSS, I wasn't one of those slagging off Wagstaff, Hayes and/or Solly
Wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Just a general feeling on here and other places.

Think Powell needs to step up and take the blame or explain the changes in the past two games.

    Agree entirely.
  • Didn 't sound like we created 11 chances compared to their 4 as stated by the bbc stats.

  • If solly was dropped as the oppo had a taller left winger , why not play Francis ?

Was that tumbleweed rolling through the thread?

  • in the old days Wimbledon used to regularly beat teams above them - sounds like Stevenage did a Wimbledon on us today
  • Teams we've struggled against this year: Tranmere, Sheff Weds and Stevenage - all anti football teams.
Since Sheffield Wednesday were thrashed by Stevenage their results suggest they are far from an anti football team with four straight wins. Form that is VERY worrying.
  • Waiting for train home, that was bad compared to last years standards. Players like Stephens & BWP looked very disinterested. Green's Performance was one of the worst I've seen and included about 3 foul throws!
  • I haven't read any of the other posts.
    I'm not happy.
I'm sitting at the station after watching my team not turn up at my local league ground.
What was Chris Powell thinking by dropping Solly?
It surely can't be because we were worried about Stevenages aerial power?
I can't remember them putting long balls in our box. In fact they played the ball on the ground far more than we did.
Why change the way we play for a team like stevenage? That's pure stupidity.

I'm sure if it wasn't for the flukey goal it would have ended 0-0 because we didn't have a clue up front.
Powell made a massive clanger and didn't know what to do once we went one down .
Stephens and Hollands were non exsistant and Green was terrible.
One plus point about today is that I didn't take my kids . Not only because of the inept performance but also because of the idiot who was sat next to me who wanted to fight with a young Steward. What a Moron.
  • So? One loss. Maybe we should've kept Solly in, but with Cort's recent international game time maybe CP thought he could handle a league game, to give S-Dog a rest.
Where did all this Hayes love come from? I thought everyone had decided Kermit was the better Hayes? I'm sure both are great but I doubt starting Hayes would've made much difference. It was more Stevenage playing anti-football that lost us the game, as opposed to us playing bad football.
Stevenage are just one of those teams, like Tranmere and Hartlepool, that can be a banana skin for "better" sides. We didn't play as well as we have done in most games this season, but that doesn't mean its the end of the world.
We are top of the league and we are going up.

So let's all just look at the league table and get ready for Carlisle.
  • On the way back now, it was just one of them days you could tell we was not gonna get anything.

We need to work out a way to break these sort of teams down otherwise we may drop costly points like today.

  • Brighton went through this last year and came back so must we!!
  • we have no width... this is the problem
  • If only we had balanta...

We need wingers with pace who are not scared to take on wingbacks...

    I.e balanta bolasie

No they didn't. They played better football than us. Simple .
Sure they time wasted and they went to ground to easily but that was up to the ref to stop that and he was too week.
Dint think we lost this because stevenage were like Wimbledon. We lost this because the manager picked the wrong team and that team was just not good enough.

  • Seems like a lot of retrospective clamouring for Hayes and Wagstaff to be put back in the starting line up. They were getting slagged off a couple of weeks ago, not just on here by the way.
TBH After the Sheff Utd and Mk Dons games, I slagged Wagstaff off but also said you shouldn't change a winning team. Hayes defiently shouldn't have been dropped
  • Can't believe Solly was dropped just because they had a bigger left winger???? If so I think Powell should stop tinkering with the team and have a bit more faith instead of trying to second guess the opposition. And get Hayes and Waggy back in. Solly and Waggy are a superb partnership down the wing. Other than that it sounded like we didn't create much in front of goal and this needs to sorted out. Still top and the comments on the match thread to say we are sh**e is just a little bit reactionary. We are still top and Powelly we sort them ot for the next game.

    agreed
  • Francis would have been a better bet than tampering with the defensive partnership we had. Powell has got it wrong the past 2 games, we need to sub faster and not worry about other teams and the way they set up, our first 11 should be good enough to play our football whoever the opposition are.
  • Ha, fifty posts in half hour always a good indicator we lost !

Very disappointing, they didn't do enough to win but sadly nor did we. Think we got so caught up in having to match them physically we forgot about playing our own game. No complaints with anything stevenage did, weren't as niggly as u thought they would be.

  • just got in and heard solly was dropped, Green again for Waggy. Sorry but Powell has lost the feckin plot.Clueless
  • Poor performance today, spawny deflection for the goal. No problem with them or how they played, up to us to rise above it. Stewarding was banal at best, toilets flooded by half time, stevenage is a shit hole mind, glad I am on the train home.

Stevenage my local team so just got back. If it was Stevenage v Stevanage a draw would have been a fair result but that statement shouldn't let us off the fact that it was Stevenage v Charlton so we definitely deserved to lose. Their goal was a total fluke but they did have a good chance saved by Hamer and did hit the bar. Thought the issue was lack of quality and composure up front and in midfield today. Green was a waste of space on the pitch displaying no quality whatsoever and he needs to be dropped and brought back in via promising sub appearances where he can regain confidence.  Kermit won headers but there was no link up with BWP who was a threat but rubbish if that makes sense. Missed a one on one that we would all have been disapointed to miss- and made wrong choices throughout. Morrison is no right back and baffleing why Solly was on the bench - if he wasn't fit Francis should have been playing -thought Cort actually was one of our main threats and their keeper pulled off an excellent save from him and he won nearly every header. Basically though, we didn't work their keeper enough and didn't press sufficiently to get at them, the second ball invaraiably fell to them and when the opportunity was there to get in the box, not enough red shirts made the effort.

Wiggins was our man of the match without any competetion but he did look the best player on the pitch. Powell took too long to make the changes. I would have brought Waggy on for Morrison and Euell for Green with 25 minutes to go. Without blaming him for the result, the lino in front of us was appalling. Missed a pen on BWP which you had to play the game to see - both fairly leaning into each other, BWP winning the battle and about to get a shot off and  defender leaned harder and brought him down. To be fair, he was a young lino so probably never been in physical challenges in his life so would never have grasped it. A worry as lots of chamges Powell can make but will they make any difference- probably needs to bring Pritchard in but he is injured.

  • I have commented on Hayes in the past for his poor first touch but he has other aspects about him that we miss. Didn't want to see him dropped though. Gives defenders a hard time and works his socks off.
