  • But BWP rarely slices them wide.
  • Sorry, just got in, and haven't read the above, but I honestly thought Tranmere deserved 3 points today. They come to The Valley to win ( I don't think many teams will do that) and even after We scored they were still going for the 3 points. From the start they had players out wide, and with their centre-forward ( My MOM) they were attacking. Summed it up after He sliced wide, but within 20 seconds He had chased back and won the ball, turning it into another attack: How many other C/F's would do that ?
Think their manager should be unhappy they didn't get a second to seal it in the 1st half - not sure whether the goalie was still looking for 3 points at the end as we was still taking forever over his goal kicks
  • That may be the dumbest post of the season and have no problem with that but you have not answered the challenge as to what contribution bwp has made today and for 92 minutes of the chesterfield game. Lets not for one moment encourage him to become complacent by letting him think that his performance was acceptable and treat him with kid gloves. Powell should be strong and not influenced by hype and judge people on their merits.
Don't think he is complacent, he had a bad game as did most people. He's scored 7 goals in 10 games I believe. Who would replace him, Euell?

  • Deserved a point for the second half efforts, but no more than that.

Also don't necessarily agree with all the criticism of Tranmere - every team is going to try to slow things down as much they can in their position, us included, and I didn't see them taking it to extremes.

Pleased to still be unbeaten, but wouldn't be surprised if we continue to pick up more points on our travels than at home.

  • People booed Danny Green??? (tom-k, above) For heaven's sake, tell me that isn't so.
    Here we go again......

There were a few very muted boos at HT. Nothing else. Given the dross served up for 70 odd mins I thought the crowd were paitient.

1st half i know the footie wasn't great but considering we are top of the league , the valley was like a morgue.
  • well if you beieve how well bwp is viewed everyone on here would say that he would too but he does not does he?
As I said, being lazy & half cut, I didn't read any of the above. I wasn't critisizing any CAFC player, the point I was trying to say was how many centre-forwards, who sliced a chance, would be willing to chase back and win the ball instead of feeling sorry for themselves ?
  • Some people really are thick. To call BWP lazy is a disgrace and my only response to you can be that your watching of the game is lazy. Is your view because he seems to walk with a bit of an attitude? That boy doesn't stop running, today he played probably our most dangerous ball into the box which meant sadly he wasn't on the end of it. His work rate is second to none in the team.
  • Disappointing performance from most of the team today.  Solly and Morrisson as good as ever, but most of the rest seemed below par.  What's happened to our midfield in the last few games?  Hollands has an excuse, but I don't think Jackson has played well for for a few games not running down the wing so much (as evidenced by a decline in the Heartbeat theme). Stephens had the worst game I've seen from him.  I think a lot of posters here have been tough on Green and Kermit.   Green did well at keeping the ball though needs to find the cross.  Kermit did really well to get the ball to BWP as often as he did.  It's not his fault if Hamer and the defence were going for long balls rather than looking to play it out of defence.  In doing this, I think we played into Tranmere's hands.
  • Posting without reading.

Tranmere were by far the better side for the most part and made us look silly in the first half when I can hardly remember us having a shot.

Got things going second half in a random fashion and should have nicked it with BWPs air-shot late on. Also BWP should have passed back to Stephens (?) unmarked late on for an easy shot on goal.
Green did not work with Solly and Hayes links up the play better than Yann. If Green plays as he can then possibly Yann could work better than Hayes.
It's easy to be wise after the event, but CP must be wishing he'd stuck with his usual formation.

  • kermit and green are both good players, good at what they do but the lack of movement and pace that wagstaff provides and the lack of a ball into feet and link with midfield that hayes provides, noticeably disrupted the balance of the team. Put today in the cuoboard marked experience and lets get back to the tried and tested but lets not write green or kermit off - both will play their part as the team evolves.

Although he didn't feature today, looking at the tranmere squad on the back of the programme I found one of their players has the best name in football. Step forward No20............

    MAX POWER.

Quality. Glad to see some parents still have a sense of humour. :-)

Positives were that we were a long way from our best but got something out of the game. We seemed a bit lethargic and predicatble- thought defence did well and were unlucky for deflected goal. Green was in for his quality instead of Waggy's energy but he didn't have the qulaity today so we simpl;y lacked the energy! BWP -not his best but we are all allowed a bad one- should hav egot the winner at the end though. Win at Stevenage, which we are more than capable of and that point becomes a good one.

  • Really didn't play well and couldn't have argued if Tranmere had won it (despite their cheating/time wasting).

Crowd reaction to the poor performance pleased me, well done.

I thought Yann played very well as a target man. Won just about everything in the air, some nice touches and worked hard.......BUT....I feel that playing him leads to us playing long balls too often and we aren't any good at that for an entire game. It wasn't as if we got frustrated after trying to play a passing game and reverted to it, we did it from pretty much the start and you could see that when defence/midfield got the ball they mostly looked up instead of around them.. However much I think Yann is a decent player to have and will be very important for us I just feel with Hayes we are forced to play a style of football that suits us a team more.

And hopefully some will now see that simply because someone is a better crosser of the ball doesn't make us a better team overall.

Another game we managed to get something out of when not playing well so just have to put it behind us and onwards and upwards.
    Agreed.

I think Kermongant is a a good sub and not really a good starter. Haynes can do a lot more on the field so I was a bit suprised we did not start Haynes.

Can someone explain to me why is Jackson is taking the corner on the right wing when he is a left wing and Stephens taking corners on the left??????
Left foot curls in from the right. Right foot curls in from the left.

He was on the bench cos I did a double take when BDL read it out. Reminded me of an old Simpsons episode.

I thought Mustapha Teryaki was aquality name too.
  • loved our own score being read out at half time " charlton 0- tran.... oh that's us, obviously"
  • I am not sure about Haynes at the moment but I think he is better than
Kermy. Haynes can play the ball to his feet and win a header but Kermy
reminds me of Parkin who used to play for Preston. Expert on the air and
tough but from what I have seen today from him he can lay balls off to
BWP via headers. I think he is a good sub, not sure about a good
starter. Don't understand why Waggy was replaced by Green, I thought
Waggy had a bad game at Sheffield United but seriously you can not drop
him because you had one bad game. I think Waggy made a difference to the
    team when he came on.

The more I see Tranmere at the Valley the
more they irritate me. They were pushing and shoving, wasting time and
making it difficault for the opposition and the referee finally gives us
a free kick 80th min when Tranmere have been doing that all game.
Unfortunatly, they are the experts of this but we all know we are going
to have teams that are going to play this way in this poxy league. We
have to deal with it and today we did not and I felt we was lucky to get
a draw but against teams like Tranmere we really should put in a better
    performance and win.
  • poor first half, improved and deserved a point for our 2nd half though didn't see the foul for the pen. They were a physical team and the ref did us no favours before the pen, had loads of chances to book the keeper for time wasting. We need to be more positive from the start.

  • If Matt Power was there where was Tim Wiseman is what I wanna know!
  • Came out very relieved to get a point. We didn't play well, Tranmere didn't give us time on the ball and we resorted to long ball.

Midfield was nowhere until the last 20 minutes. Kermogant although didn't do badly I thought if we were going to play it long Hayes would've been a better option.

Green didn't do much, their left winger had lots of space all afternoon.

Wiggins is getting better every game, Morrison dealt with Showumni very well and Hamer keeps impressing me, claims alot of crosses easily.

Still unbeaten and this performance keeps everyone's feet on the ground. It's going to be a long hard season with not alot between the top 5/6

The main difference is Kermorgant is an automatic and Haynes is a manual.

  • Proper idiots sitting near me moaning about Hamer every single time he got the ball.

They kept going on about him taking ages and why he wasnt throwing to the fullbacks. Yet they seemed to ignore the fact that Tranmere were pressing so quickly that the full backs would have had no time to do anything, and no1 infront of them was creating much space to help them out.

  • Found it a very frustrating afternoon.

Tranmere clearly come with the number one intention of making it difficult for us and the onus on us to break them down. Get used to it because many others will do the same this season.

We clearly struggled with it, the tempo and urgency was not right, the midfield found no space and the result was us taking the direct route to Kermit. Don't see how you can say he could have held it up better when everything played to him was at his head or above.

Things improved a bit second half and I thought it was going to turn out to be one of those where if we could just get one, the whole backdrop would change and two and three would quickly follow. Alas it was not to be.

The last week since the Sheff u win has felt a real case of after the lord mayors show. Let's hope its a temporary lull because the energy levels and intent in the two games since looked more like last years bunch than the group everyone has been raving about.

If I was to highlight one player not really mentioned, I'f like to see Stephens put his stamp on a game a little bit more. He's been too much in the periphery of late for my liking. It's clear he has real quality, I'd like to see him imposing it a bit more.
  • It will be interesting to see if Powell can come up with a way to counter teams like Tranmere who sussed us out. As soon as Hamer got the ball, they pushed up on our back four cutting out the option of rolling it out and building from the back. So at no stage did we get anything like the long spells of possession that have worn down teams like Exeter and Chesterfield. The game then became a mess and that's what Tranmere wanted.

Thought we could have gone 4-3-3 by introducing Hayes in the last 15 mins to at least try to keep the ball up their end but it looked like we settled for keeping our unbeaten run going. There's something to be said for remaining unbeaten but too many play-safe draws at home could be costly.

Over the course of a season there will be plenty of bad games.....the trick is to win some of them 1-0.

We're still a good side and I wouldn't be surprised to see us revert to the "normal" starting XI at Stevenage.

  • Cost me 70 quid in petrol to attend the game yesterday and 18 quid to get in, and I couldn't help but think what a waste of money it was. Would have liked to see us have at least one shot in the first half. So glad we didn't lose though as that would have made me really down about the whole thing.
  • Poor showing. More worrying is that we have papered over the cracks in recent weeks with a magnificent victory in Sheffield.
I have wanted Green in for Wagstaff all season, shows how much I know.
Not convinced by Stephens, then again, I have only seen a couple of the away performances.
Really needed SCP to make a few earlier changes yesterday.
Laboured, lacklustre and too much like last season.

That said, top of the league, unbeaten etc etc.
  • Massive managerial mistake by Powell, never change a winning team. He did and look what happened, I also think he didn't get the boys up for it before the kick off. That said I think he will change the team back to the same as Sheff Utd away, He will have learnt from his error. On balance a draw was fair.
Feel sorry for Green he was not at the races today, I feel he has messed his chance up.
    Morrison clear MOTM for me.
The crowd - Where was the 'covered end choir', cos it was like the old Highbury Library at times, especially first half. Sort it out boys n girls, very lame.
  • We were due a bad one and this came as no surprise
I feel the top 6 is done and dusted and now we're jostling for positions
Us , sheff wed, utd , udders , mk and preston will be in the mix and sadly I don't think anyone is stand out amongst that
Didn't go but feel that we're getting tired as a team , hopefully this is a wake up call that we don't have to just turn up to get a result
20 per cent autos 79 per cent play offs and 1 per cent omg
