  • Tranmere were sooo bad for the timewasting. Right from the start of the second half they were at it. Add to this the constant tripping up and catching ankles, obstruction. They were good for their goal lead after the first half.

    BUT.

We deserved a point from our second half performance.

How wagstaff doesnt start i dont know because he has a tangible positive effect on the team. should start every time imo.

all in all. we would have given up at 1-0 last year. so a point is better than none and still unbeaten

    .

  • Team was poor as a whole although I though Morrison, who had a hard job v the Showman, did well enough.

We didn't win the league at Brammel Lane and we havent lost it today.  Disappointing but still top and still points clear.

Hamer looked at fault for the goal and clattered Morrison, missing the ball in the process and nearly gave them another.  A few other mistakes too.

Even then BWP missed what looked like a gimme and we should have had another pen when DH was fouled by the touch line.

Shame for Green who has so much hype and expectation loaded on him when he's just a league one footballer.  But he's a good league one footballer (like Waggy) and will have better days.  Hopefully this will be a reality check but I doubt the Waggy haters noticed that nearly all Rovers attacking play in the 1st half came down our right.

  • Tranmere - What a horrible team. I can't wait go up and play decent teams. We're still top, so we can't be negative. I've have been delighted for this position at the start of the season. I still think we'll get stronger as the season progresses, so that's a VERY positive thing.

I thought Tranmere played quite a nice passing game first half. Time wasting in the second seemed to disrupt that, or maybe they just got tired.
  • Well I told you so yesterday.

It's all to do with numbers

7 wins each and 14 draws overall between the teams overall and the last 3 ending 1-1 before today.

Whats the obvious result of today's game 1-1

    3 wishes.

I wished I had the courage to believe in history and put £100 on the result (I thought we would give Tranmere a good thumping)

I wish we had not lost two points today - it could be vital

Lastly I wish we don' t meet these jinxy scoucers in the FA Cup.

COYR - onwards and upwards !!!!!
  • Mate had £200 0n us and hudds after my recommendation, typcial.
  • The referee didn't help the game one bit today. Should have booked there goalkeeper for time wasting after 60 minutes to make an example to rest of the Tranmere players, but instead done nothing. Thought Tranmere looked OK, the big lump upfront Showmununininni or however you spell it caused a few problems in the first half and we was really slow out of the blocks.

I n my opinion we edged the game in the second half. I thought it was going to be one of them games where nothing goes our way so was pleasantly suprised when we got the pen! We had 3 or 4 scraps in the box which on another day would have fallen kindly to us and the game was summed up when BWP didn't connect from 4 yards out.

Bloke next to me done my head in all game slating Green, I didn't think he had a great game, but then again nobody did. Stephens was poor on the ball along with Hollands and gave the ball away needlessly. As a previous poster said, I think this was largely down to playing Kermit (who didn't loose one header in the air all game I think) but it meant at times we were hoofing it upfield. BWP needs to gamble a bit more on the flick ons but time will make that happen. Some fans around me were shouting to get Kermogant off after 28 minutes because he wasn't linking up with BWP...  I think they expected a Quinn/Phillips partnership after 30 minutes of football!!

I was a bit suprised that Powell didn't bring on Hayes. After all he's been a big part of the team for 12 games. I would have left Kermit and BWP on and had a real go, instead we brought on Waggy who didn't do anything outstanding and didn't get in behind them once or make a single cross.

Jackson is still a little wasted for me out wide. I still think we could do with a tricky winger down the left,as it's all a bit predictable at times.

Overall it wasn't a great performance but it's 1 point closer to the Championship and out of this poxy league!

  • I thought Tranmere did what they always do which is to come to us and stop us playing our own game. They totally stifled us in the first half and we resorted to a bit of hit and hope at times. Rovers won the individual battles. SCP's half time talk yet again seems to have made a difference this season and we looked a lot better for the second half. Our approach play was much improved and Rovers started to do the time wasting thing. If only BWP had connected better at the end we may well have had the three points. Luckily the Hamer/Morrison collision didn't gift Rovers all three again.

I think Hayes was unlucky to be dropped today, although YK did show some great touches. However the partnership with BWP isn't there yet. A combination of two from these three will give most oppo defences a tough time. Would still like to see a quicker striker in the squad though.

Games like today show that we need to be patient but also we have a tenacity to come back into matches, which has been lacking for a few seasons. And like many have already said on here, we are still unbeaten and top of the league. Just a blip in the season today.

  • First half was pretty bad, think we deserved to be 0-1 down.
Thought the booing towards Green was a bit harsh, he didn't stand more than anyone else in my opinion. Solly put in a good display.
Bad day at the office but all in all I thought 1-1 was a fair result on the day.
  • We were poor, especially in the first half. Tranmere were the better footballing side than us for much of the game. They timewasted from the moment they took the lead in the first half but most sides in this division are going to do that if they get ahead at the Valley. The referee should have stamped it out but he was very weak in that regard.

As other people have mentioned Green was no improvement on Wagstaff and Kermit spent much of the game flicking ball into nowhere although he produced a few better touches near the end. I will give Jackson my man of the match for keeping his head during the interminable wait for the penalty.

  • Pleased with the point in the end. Impressed with the Tranmere no4, looked like a good player. Had to turn Jason Cundy off talktosh on way home as all he was interested in was talking about was the half time booing. I heard it from the North Lower and wonder if the half time whistleat the Valley triggers a form of booing tourettes from some of our fans. Embarassing.
  • we missed hayes. i suppose our game plan was to get it into the box to kermit but we didn't and kermit wasn't being used properly. it's frustrating but were top and 3 clear. i'll take that.

  • Really didn't play well and couldn't have argued if Tranmere had won it (despite their cheating/time wasting).
Crowd reaction to the poor performance pleased me, well done.

I thought Yann played very well as a target man. Won just about everything in the air, some nice touches and worked hard.......BUT....I feel that playing him leads to us playing long balls too often and we aren't any good at that for an entire game. It wasn't as if we got frustrated after trying to play a passing game and reverted to it, we did it from pretty much the start and you could see that when defence/midfield got the ball they mostly looked up instead of around them.. However much I think Yann is a decent player to have and will be very important for us I just feel with Hayes we are forced to play a style of football that suits us a team more.

And hopefully some will now see that simply because someone is a better crosser of the ball doesn't make us a better team overall.

Another game we managed to get something out of when not playing well so just have to put it behind us and onwards and upwards.
  • I don't know whether to be frustrated or pleased. We could have probably edged it by grabbing a goal at the end. However Tranmere also could have done that so I'm not going to moan about the 1 point.

Green was horrendous today and didn't offer anything going forwards or back.

Kermit looked good but there are times when he could've bought the ball down as he was in acres of space but chose to head it to nobody. He looked better than Hayes though.

Hamer had a bad game today in my books. Looked out of position for their goal but it was a screamer. Plus he didn't catch anything that came at him 2nd half and clattered Morrison.

Stephens and Hollands where far from their best and kept giving the ball away but did improve alot 2nd half.

Tranmere are Dirty northern basterds and just time wasted and fouled there way through the game.

The ref and linesman were appalling and how on earth did their Keeper not get booked for time wasting?

Overall the first half was a disaster but we played alot better in the second and deserved a point and we are still top of the league.

  • Frustrating game. Tranmere time-wasted from the moment they scored, and fon Williams should've been booked on several occasions. He was an awful keeper as well - dropped everything.

I think people are being a bit harsh on Green - he tried hard, put a couple of quality crosses in the box and had a decent long-throw. When Waggy came on we played better, but I think that was more down to the fact that there was even less time left, because he did far less than Green.

BWP was poor, played as if he was injured. His first touch was hit and miss and missed an easy chance near the end. Kermorgant won everything in the air and when those two form a good partnership it will be goals galore.

Morrison was fantastic, headed the ball clear all day long and decent distribution. Stephens was quite quiet but some of his passing is great. Wiggins was brilliant (again), my favourite player.

2 points lost I think, we should have scored more with the build up play we had and their error-prone keeper in goal.
  • Surprised people are saying that Hamer might have been at fault for the goal....from my view in the Lower West, the Winger had a shot which was flying into the top right hand corner and deflected off Solly and wrong-footed Hamer....just unlucky really.

Kermit won so many headers today, but BWP didn't seem to snatch at them-Also BWP missed Hayes today.

    Green was poor.

Morrison was by far our best player.

    Agreed.

I think Kermongant is a a good sub and not really a good starter. Haynes can do a lot more on the field so I was a bit suprised we did not start Haynes.

Can someone explain to me why is Jackson is taking the corner on the right wing when he is a left wing and Stephens taking corners on the left??????
  • Pleased with the point because I couldn't see us scoring in a month of Sundays's
  • Didn't see a deflection from the east or to TV but fair enough if that was the case.     Hamer still had some dodgy moments
  • Today we played like I expected at the beginning of the season. It seemed as though they'd never played together. Tanmere had a game plan and it worked. Yes they were niggly and wasted time but that's what most teams are like when the come to our patch. We really need to wise up to it if we're to dominate teams at home. I thought the space between our midfield and front line was way too big, leaving the front two with very little support.

Morrison was a rock at the back today and without him we'd have probably lost today.

Just seemed like we didn't make the runs to trouble them. We sat back hoping to draw them out and hit them on the counter. This tactic make work on the road but not at home. Their defence just sat back and looked very comfortable for much of the game. We need to be more pro-active and take the game to the opposition at the Valley.

Show-me-the-money was a handful for us that we struggled to deal with and given better finishing, could have got himself a couple of goals in the 1st half.

We didn't deserve anymore than we got today.

Yeah. From my seat it definately came off Solly to beat Hamer, who could do nothing about it.
The only thing Hamer was at fault for was the collision with Morrison.
  • well i'll be the first to say it.Chris Powell you ballsed up. After 11 games unbeaten you changed the team why ? If I was waggy or hayes I would well and truely pissed off. Danny Green doesn't work hard enough and kermo just wanted to flick it on, which meant as we played the long ball we bypassed midfield all day. He needed to control it and lay it off to the midfield men bringing them into play. Not the end of the world and maybe powelly will learn today if it aint broken dont mess with it.

    Yeah i'd agree with that.
  • First half instantly forgettable from a Charlton point of view, although Tranmere played the better football they only had shots from outside the box and were not that threatening. The goal scored was a fluke, shanked off the side of his boot and flew in. Charlton did not threaten at all as we relied on hitting the ball up to Yann to flick on, which worked, but BWP was not on the same wavelength. Tranmere deserved to lead at HT.

Second half, complete turnaround, Charlton dominated and after a few shots at their keeper we realised how shit he was, the ball was dropped from crosses, splilled from speculative shots and timewasting from the 40th minute, ref was too lenient on all Tranmere's timewasting and fouling. The ball just did not fall for Charlton. BWP would have scored a couple on another day, missing a sitter (for someone of his skills and standards) to make it 2-1. Penalty was soft, there was a lot worse fouls in the area, with Tranmere blocking and pulling shirts at every set piece. JJ could have scored a second from a Yann knockdown, but skied over the bar. Second half all Charlton, so a point probably a fair result, but I think we should have nicked it at the end as Tranmere made a mistake in their subs and handed Charlton the initiative by sitting back all second half and hoofing long and picking up the scraps.

Unbeaten, but should have won this.

  • Not sure why CP felt the need to change a winning starting XI. Didn't go to Sheffield but it's hard to see how we needed 'freshening up' after what sounds like a great performance. And it's hard to believe that Waggy and Hayes were knackered from mid-week, given that we hardly got out of third gear all match.

Waggy gives us more than Green. Hayes has done absolutely nothing wrong. And Kermit has a great record as a game-changing sub. Where was the need to change it ?

They came to do a job on us, closed us down and didn't let's us pass it around at the back. Don't think him meant thier goal, ref should have booked thier keeper for time wasting.

Danny Green: Green cross code: learn to cross the ball young man.

We have taken four points from the last two games, I think everyone would have been happy with that last Saturday morning.

Not sure about singing that the ref is a see you next Tuesday.

    dont repeat me LOL
  • From our old mate Rich Cawley

Powell said replays showed that push on Hollands was inside the area - "100 per cent" - instead of FK on edge of the box. #cafc
  • People booed Danny Green??? (tom-k, above) For heaven's sake, tell me that isn't so.
  • Didn't see a deflection from the east or to TV but fair enough if that was the case.     Hamer still had some dodgy moments

Sat right behind it. HUGE deflection.
