I'm 100% with eldavide on this one. I've said it before and I'll say it again: 'I value one league goal more than winning this trophy.' I might even go as far to say that seeing the win in our honours list would put a stain on our club history as it would highlight that we wasted more unnecessary time in the 3rd Division.
I'd be happy for our manager to do as Megson did and treat it as a training session. We'd be better off without this game and winning will only make another pointless fixture.
Players get injured in training, we seem to have lost more players over the years to those injuries. However,I understand the point you are making, personally for the reasons I have said I would like us to win this.
You are right about extra 1st team regular forgot Hughes was an ongoing sub.
Would hate to see CP do a megson.
As a matter of interest doyou feelthe same way about the FA Cup ?
How can you even try to compare the two?
The FA Cup has history and prestige. Winning it is a real honour.
For me, one of the reasons to wish to get to The Premiership is to acquire the players that might make winning the FA Cup possible. Winning The Premiership in itself is well out of our reach.
What jimmy said, if we get back to the premier we like any other club in the league should have making a fa cup or league cup final, bolton, fulham ,wigan all these tiny clubs have even managed it. But for now lets win the league one title,be nice to put that next to the championship we got.

With you 100% Jimmy. Indeed I hope Chris does "do a Megson". I have no idea who thinks this a good idea, other than the Football League apparatchiks who get another day out at Wembley, and perhaps paint at knockdown prices
I like the idea of giving Taylor a start in goal, then sub him after 20 mins and replace with Sullivan. As said, cocks a snook at pointless ruling and runs the eye over Taylor as an emergency keeper ...... for example, say late in a game 3 subs are already on, then Hamer gets injured/sent off.
Otherwise definitely agree with resting the spine of the team.
Remember 6 first teamers must start, but only 3 of those need finish the game.
Regarding "doing a Man Utd" by not entering the cup, The problem there is that as far as I'm aware, it's compulsory for all L1 + L2 clubs to enter. If that wasn't the case, they'd probably be no more than 6 teams in the whole competition.
Put Waggy in goal
Far too tall. Solly would be my choice. :-) Also believe That Francis has earned the right to play up front. Making silly selections like that would really show the league what we think of their paint pot.

And there in lies the problem, whose idea was it to come up with a competion where Plymouth,MUST potentially travel to Southend(or Visa versa),and MUST pick 6 1st team regulars? I would really like to know the financial implications of this cup, surely all but the winners make a loss? Looking around at interviews, I don't think the majority of managers want to be in this cup because of this rule. If it was changed, so teams could select who they want, then I think it would be of more benefit. Clubs could play kids giving first team experience, or bring back those injured. Or better still scrap this cup and get Johnson's paint to sponsor regional reserve leagues?
Oh and before anyones states "Plymouth are out" I know, I was highlighting what could happen!
Would you therefore play a different starting 11 regardless of opposition? (As we did in Carling Cup)
I would like us to pick who we like, I guess Powell would do that, I asked if 1000 of us would stump up the fiver on Weds, knowing we'd watch 11 changes, which would cover the fine I reckon we'd get hit with. I'd be happy with that, just 999fans and the club to convince!
I'm not really bothered about the JPT and I don't care if we play crap and lose 3-0 at home. The league is more important this year and I don't really want us to be affected by the JPT. I just want us to have a go in the FA Cup. It is a shame we can't put 11 other players on the field to get some first team oppotunities but with this rule we obviously can't.
I think it is about picking the 6 first. I'd agree Hamer has to start - keeper is a position where you can play more games so that's one. Waggy is young and fit and can be replaced by Green in the first team -harsh but true so that's 2, Hayes has done well but maybe Kermit has done enough to win his place so i'd make him 3. The other 3, I suppose you have to do the fitness tests and play who is freshest and least likely to be negatively affected by an additional game which we can't know the answer to. Then you build a team around those six. I would guess there should be places for Green who would benefit from matches, Kermit Ditto, Euell and Hughes.Don't think we will se the cynical Sheff Wed type subs (I personally don't have an issue with it though) but we probably will se a coupek of early ones.
I think the rule over use of first teamers is a real shame, would love to see the second 11 who played against Preston and Reading be able to play in this competition and have a real go at it. Unfortunately that's not possible, so I think we should be looking to rest the 5 most indispensible players from the first 11 - BWP, Jackson, Stephens, Hollands, possibly Morrison.
The side that is picked should certainly go out to win it, and I'm sure they will. Don't buy into all this "it's an embarrassment to have on our honours list" stuff. There was 40,000 Southampton fans at Wembley the other year and they didn't seem to mind, I would love some of that.
This season there is "One Aim" and the JPT is not it. Couldn't give a toss about it, but I'll still go down on Wednesday. Hoping to get a view of Alonso!
Charlton are entering a Cup competition, with a final at Wembley, as FAVOURITES to reach the final.
We're part-way through (hopefully) a long, unbeaten run, with the team showing the signs of confidence that can only be gained by continually winning. In football (as with most proper sports) the final piece of the jigsaw, is the mindset. Get everything else right, but tell players "tonight's game doesn't matter" and you'll lose and you're also likely to lose the next one too.
But, tell a confident team to go out and win again, because, despite making a few changes, they're the best team in the competition and they can reach the final... and you'll find they're likely to win and win and win again.
Chris Powell will pick whoever he wants. But I really hope he prepares the team to go out and win. And win well.
Also: if I were Johnnie Jackson, I would be knocking on Powell's door to demand a game. I'd want to play every match. And I'd want to become only the third player in the Club's history to lift a winning trophy at Wembley.

Is Cort available or on international duty?
Would expect them all in the squad.
